| Ringo1 | 04-24-2010 06:33 AM | I went ahead and bought my little Lucy even though her sister and littermate (the puppy we had originally picked out) was PTS by her breeder for Liver Shunt. Despite all the advice I received on this board - which was good advice by the way - we went ahead and took Lucy because she was our second choice anyway. I have to give the breeder credit, too, for being completely honest with me about the LS.
We had Lucy's liver enzymes tested as soon as she got home and they were fine.
However, due to a health incident, she ended up having to be BAT tested and we did discover she has very mild MVD that we manage with diet alone.
I guess what I'm saying is that I took the plunge - knowing I was taking a chance. Yes, I was very sad to learn about the MVD and I really questioned my decision at that point. But, she is mine now and I wouldn't have it any other way. Luckily, she doesn't need surgery.
Good luck with your decision. It IS a hard one. Only you know if you have the financial resources that might be necessary for this little one. |
