is this a good place ro have your dog register with if its a yorkie CONTINENTAL KENNEL CLUB i know most people are using AKC, |
AKC is by far the more preferred registry. Where are the parents registered? That is the organization you need to go with. |
JMO, but CKC is not a reputable registry. |
I chose not to register Bailey. Her liter was registered with the AKC and that was good enough for me. |
Joey is CKC registered, and he's pretty obviously not the best quality dog ever...don't get me wrong - he's my first yorkie, my baby, and I would do anything for my little boy, but he's got such bad knees that he's pigeon toed in the back, he's got allergies I'm pretty sure, and his hair is very thin and fine. He's got a great temperment and everything, it's just the knees and hair and such. his coloring is gorgeous, too :) I personally wouldn't go for another ckc dog, though, simply because I don't think they are as strict with the physical health quality of parents. |

What registry did your dog come with and are you planning on breeding? |

well, then I guess Joey had an ethically-challenged breeder. My mistake :) Honestly though, to the op - my boys are fixed, and it doesn't really matter to me what registry they are with - all I care about is that they're happy and healthy little boys. |
I just mean with CKC, that they will register anything, all you have to do is send in a picture of your dog at 6 months old and someone that you know has to sign verifying that your dog is the breed you say it is....They register yorkie-poos, mutts, whatever..Nothing at all is wrong with mutts, by the way, one of my best dogs EVER was a mutt..But anyways, I could care less about papers anyways, Roxie is not reg. by choice. Oh well, off my soap box now..lol.. |

Well I know that the CKC that my friend dealt with did. I mean I am all about educating myself, so please educate me. I am going to look at their website now. |
Ok this is what I found on the CKC website. Does Continental Kennel Club register mixed breed dogs, and if so, why? Yes, while 98% of the registry is made up of purebred dog registrations, CKC does offer its registration services to owners of mixed breed dogs. Owning a mixed breed dog is very common today, and CKC wants to be helpful to those dog owners as well. Many mixed breed dogs are rescued from shelters by responsible owners looking for a good canine companion to be part of their home. CKC encourages registration of these dogs for a number of reasons. Registration services provide proof of ownership, allow the dog to participate in our performance events, allow CKC to record the accomplishments of the owner and these canines, and make available all of the great services CKC has to offer. |

Unbelievable :( This makes it valid for those that continue to cross breed, without considering the health or the outcome of the mixing. Most people don't realize that this version called the CKC doesn't mean a thing. |
The only possibilities would be that 1) either you or your friend is mistaken, or 2) it wasn't the same registry. The CKC in question that the OP mentioned does NOT "register" mixed dogs as recognized breeds. It issues a certificate stating that the dog is the offspring of two recognized breeds, but does not delare them a breed of their own. It allows people with mixed dogs to qualify to enter their dogs in their agility events. I guess it also depends on what you consider "registered" to be. Declaration that the dog is a recognized breed, or simply having the dog on record with the organization. |
I just mean that my friend had a "Yorkie-Poo" and it was CKC registered. Whatever that means I don't know, Im just saying she had paperwork to prove it. |
