BamaFan, could you send me a link on the CKC website to where you found that information? I honestly am just trying to educate myself, and if I am wrong, Im the first to admit it. I would just like the link to where you found this info. Thanks! |

AKC is a Purebred registery and keeps track of parentage via "Stud Books" CKC APRI and others, will register mixed breeds, but, it does not register them as abreed until itself. In otherwords your friends dog is Yorkie Poo, it's a mixed breed, but not a recognized breed. |
She had the paperwork "proving" that one parent was a Yorkie and one was a Poodle, not something "proving" that her dog was a purebred dog. Nothing more. LOL..I think we are misunderstanding each other or something. I have re-read the above statement, and what I said in my original post was that they recognize and let people register mixed breed dogs..aka.mutts. I think you are reading TOO much into my statement or I have misunderstood you somewhere. I am saying CKC will let you register any dog of any breed, mixed or fullblooded. For instance my friend owns a CKC reg. Yorkie-Poo, wether it says Yorkie poo on papers or not, she has CKC paperwork. Her mutt is reg. with CKC> |

But, CKC is not a preferred registry. It was established by Puppy Mills, BYBers that were involved in the breeding of mixed breeds, to present themselves as reputable breeders to the unsuspecting public. |
I think I am totally miscommunicating with myself and others today..lol...What I mean is that she has a CKC reg. mutt, regardless of what it says on papers. Regardless, IMO I think CKC is not a good reputable registry, of course this is just my view, not putting anyone down that has a CKC dog, mines not even registered.lol... |

A more accurate description would be that your friend has a mutt recorded by CKC, it's not registered as a breed. :) Stating that CKC will register mutts is not exactly accurate and misleading. |
Ok, this is my LAST post on this issue, wow I didn't realize it would step on so many toes. I think things can be interpreted very differently when you are reading something, so one can take it the wrong way. Bottom line my friend owns a CKC reg. dog which happens to be a Yorkie-Poo (mutt). I am so done with this thread..lol..I hope you all have a gorgeous , lovely day. By the way, are you saying that if 1 parent was a yorkie -poo and the other parent was a yorkie-poo and they had puppies, that the "children" couldnt be CKC registered? Hence the following statement you made? She is "registered" with a company that issued a certificate stating that the PARENTS were purebred, not the pup itself. |

Unless a person is into showing with their dog, does it matter? |

Here's my opinion and my opinion only. AKC holds other events and is not only involved with conformation and companion events. The are also involved with Responsible Pet Ownership. Meet the Breed. Therapy Groups. Canine Good Citizen. etc. They are also involved with Pet Legislation. So, if you are one of the many that obtained an AKC pup, by registering your dog, you are automatically a memeber to the AKC. What that membership does is give you the opportunity to have a voice in a lot of those events, and changes. It's not all about showing. |
Mardeline, that makes sense and never even thought of it as I have never had anything to do with them. My Corso was in some ARBA events when young, the Yorkie has just been a stay at home Queen. Have a great day....young lady |
