Cutting Corners :) Here are ways most unethical breeders, BYB's, PM's, and brokers cut corners in their plans and the first one listed is why you get a lot of Yorkies that aren't standard and look a bit off (hair, ears, body, face, etc.) once they get older. 1. They cross breed a female Silky with a male Yorkie because she can produce a large litter and then call them Yorkies, because most gullible people don't know the difference. 2. They do no health testing...NONE...but lie and say they do because they have learned how to "business talk" to buyers to seem legit. 3. They sell the puppies at 6-8 weeks old to cut their own expenses to make $$$. These puppies have not been wormed or had their first set of shots. 4. They claim they have a health guarantee  again... this is "business talk" and doing #3 above is a big clue. 5. If you are lucky to go to their homes the mama dog usually may not even look like she has been nursing, or they may not have the neither of parents on site, or they may give some bogus excuse about them. But they miraculously have a litter of puppies (BROKER) To all you puppy shoppers out there.... PLEASE do research and educate yourselves and not fall victim to puppy wanting fever. Have patience and find a real Yorkie from a reputable breeder. |
Thanks for the explanation. It's very informative and helpful. I've bred and raised litters and I KNOW how expensive it is. When I see pups going for extremely low amounts, the first thing that comes to mind is "How on Earth could you swing that? What shortcuts are you taking?" The first thing I assume is that the dogs, and dam/sire, have not had any specific health tests done...beyond just a 'vet check,' if that. Because those costs add up VERY quickly. |

Exactly! So the bargin puppy ends up not being a bargin at all later down the road with the vet bills the new owner is stuck with. There will be vet bills owning a Yorkie, but these unneccessary bills from breeding healthy dogs are heartbreaking. I get nervous every time I go to the sick and injured section in YT to read post there. |
Excellent post! |

Such a GREAT post! I really hope interested buyers with no experience come here first and read this, I got lucky with my breeder but would have not known HALF the information I received from this site prior to bringing home my baby. Thanks for sharing!:thumbup::thumbup: |

This is a great post ! Not only for pet owners but for breeders too. It makes us feel good about the recognition of a conscious breeding approach with responsible practices. It is nice to see people who notice the hard work we have, and expensive ! XOXO |
Great post |
What I have also noted about these breeders is that the pups never see a vet at all. The breeder gives all the shots themself as well as never taking them in for testing, so how do they know they are healthy or not or an underlining problem that will pop up soon when the buyer has it at home. And then the breeder does not have a guarantee. No support at all. Bad business and not ethical. So a good question to ask and have proof when searching for a pup - is vet exams. |
