Cutting Corners :) Here are ways most unethical breeders, BYB's, PM's, and brokers cut corners in their plans and the first one listed is why you get a lot of Yorkies that aren't standard and look a bit off (hair, ears, body, face, etc.) once they get older. 1. They cross breed a female Silky with a male Yorkie because she can produce a large litter and then call them Yorkies, because most gullible people don't know the difference. 2. They do no health testing...NONE...but lie and say they do because they have learned how to "business talk" to buyers to seem legit. 3. They sell the puppies at 6-8 weeks old to cut their own expenses to make $$$. These puppies have not been wormed or had their first set of shots. 4. They claim they have a health guarantee :rolleyes: again... this is "business talk" and doing #3 above is a big clue. 5. If you are lucky to go to their homes the mama dog usually may not even look like she has been nursing, or they may not have the neither of parents on site, or they may give some bogus excuse about them. But they miraculously have a litter of puppies (BROKER) To all you puppy shoppers out there.... PLEASE do research and educate yourselves and not fall victim to puppy wanting fever. Have patience and find a real Yorkie from a reputable breeder. |
Thanks for the explanation. It's very informative and helpful. I've bred and raised litters and I KNOW how expensive it is. When I see pups going for extremely low amounts, the first thing that comes to mind is "How on Earth could you swing that? What shortcuts are you taking?" The first thing I assume is that the dogs, and dam/sire, have not had any specific health tests done...beyond just a 'vet check,' if that. Because those costs add up VERY quickly. |

Exactly! :thumbup: So the bargin puppy ends up not being a bargin at all later down the road with the vet bills the new owner is stuck with. There will be vet bills owning a Yorkie, but these unneccessary bills from breeding healthy dogs are heartbreaking. I get nervous every time I go to the sick and injured section in YT to read post there. |
Excellent post! :thumbup: |

LOL at myself and typing errors... that is meant to say "UNhealthy" dogs :rolleyes: |

:goodpost::thankyou2 |
Such a GREAT post! I really hope interested buyers with no experience come here first and read this, I got lucky with my breeder but would have not known HALF the information I received from this site prior to bringing home my baby. Thanks for sharing! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: |

This is a great post ! Not only for pet owners but for breeders too. It makes us feel good about the recognition of a conscious breeding approach with responsible practices. It is nice to see people who notice the hard work we have, and expensive ! XOXO |
Great post |
What I have also noted about these breeders is that the pups never see a vet at all. The breeder gives all the shots themself as well as never taking them in for testing, so how do they know they are healthy or not or an underlining problem that will pop up soon when the buyer has it at home. And then the breeder does not have a guarantee. No support at all. Bad business and not ethical. So a good question to ask and have proof when searching for a pup - is vet exams. |

Great post !! All we have to do is go to the sick and emergency section to see how many bad breeders are selling out there - there's no excuse for all the health issues these beautiful dogs are having - not to mention - many that we see sometimes don't even LOOK like yorkies ! another flag is those selling 'teacups' - big red flag when they have sites advertising teacups - micromini's and all the other 'sale words' we see on so many sites - it sucks people in and in actuality - these are the breeders to stay WAY away from edited to add - a good looking website is NOT proof of a good breeder no matter what they say - anyone can make a pretty site and say anything they want these days it's always good to ask questions here first - there's always someone who can help you when choosing a puppy before someone gets gouged for big bucks and ends up with a sick little dog full of health issues because many are just not caring and only in it for the money |
Before I got Beamer, there were lots of Yorkies advertised in the paper. I ignored them. When I bought Beamer I had friends ask why I paid so much when I could have got a Yorkie locally for a lot less - even my sister in law was looking in the newspapers for a Yorkie for me. They just didn't understand! I didn't want to buy a bundle of health problems down the road. You get what you pay for. |

And then person was looking for a pup cheap and even stated - and "the dog is a dog!" I wonder how this person would care for the pup. He also had other dogs and stated "I go to the vets every month with them." Sounds like he may have already had health probelms with the ones he had - maybe because he bought cheap. |

IF I were an ethical breeder i'd want to scream each time I see someone taken advantage but the GREEDERS out there don't know how you all keep your cool - it must hurt your heart to see these beautiful dogs being sold like cattle all for the almighty dollar - not to mention - those are the breeders that dump you once the sale is made. it sucks ....it really sucks how many are out there doing this with no remorse or caring that they sell sick puppies. The dogs suffer and the people who love them suffer and end up paying big vet bills..not the way to be a good breeder at all ! |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a Silky a cross between a Cocker and a Yorkie?:confused: |
I wonder if my moms yorkie was cross bred wit ha silky?? My moms yorkie looks like a yorkie, just longer.. The litter mate that my moms friend has, is a female too but looks NOTHING like a yorkie! Floppy ears, long tail, and extremely long body. :confused: |
Good posting! Thanks so much! :) I wouldn't have known half of the stuff I asked my breeder without this site! You guys really do rock! :) :) |
