Please put a stabilizing collar on Piper IMMEDIATELY. Can u afford a vet/neuro appt to have a bodycast put on? This is my greatest advice. Piper is in grave danger if not immediately stablized. Surgery can be the next focus. I have copied your post to Val of BabyBear. She will be responding. Please seek a specialist for a bodycast immediately. Prayers for Piper from me steadily. Keep us posted. |
I agree with the others. There is a rescue in TN....try to contact Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue.... Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue, Inc. Please do not let this pup suffer. I am sorry about the position you are in; but you really need to think about this pup's welfare first at this point. |

Have already BEEN to Nero, she said body cast wouldn't benefit him at this point. :( |
Not sure why??? I AM looking for one!!! Haven't heard back from anyone!! Didn't you read my post?? I've contacted ALL online! |
sherryllynne I am so happy that Ellie Pearl is recovering nicely. I am very aware of Posey's story and Cathy Cyr...she is an angel on earth. May Ellie Pearl continue to thrive and continue to be the little miracle that she is. extazzz- I don't know why you are getting angry at people's advice here. You said that your pup Piper can't even stand up and you can't afford surgery to fix him? I am sorry to sound condescending but...why would you even think about getting another pup..if you were still paying off the surgery for your first pup? I would take the advice that was given to you...give Piper to a rescue to have the surgery done, or get a second opinion from another vet about the stabilizing collar and why it would not benefit him? I have never heard that before, that a collar would not help? Lastly, I could not begin to watch one of my animals decline more and more on a daily basis...please get help for Piper before it is to late. |

Have you tried going back on the breeder and explaining that this pup also has a severe condition? What state was the pup purchased in? |
Yes, Got him from OUT OF STATE.. Oklahoma. She advised to "Do whatever I needed to do". :( |

I don\'t usually comment on these types of threads, but this breeder makes me sick. She puts this lady in debt with one puppy, then replaces it with another one who has an illness just as bad. I would disclose the breeder. I pray that Piper gets the help he needs. |
I need to point out- this thread is an older thread by me. As many of you know- after eight monts of AAI treatment and surgery, we lost our little Ellie Pearl due to greater neuro brain stem issues in recovery. But- there are many cases of successful AAI surgeries. Depends on severity of condition age size etc So this sweet Piper deserves every chance available. I do not understand the decision of non-casting. This pup MUST be stabilized as her neck is most likely connected to the spine by a thread. Putting it bluntly Piper can die any second- from something so simple as a sneeze. Please get another opinion. Or please consider rescue so there is no more suffering. Exactly one year today my baby quit walking. And she was diagnosed AAI. I understand the MUST of getting Piper into a cast or brace to stabilizer all movement. Please read my blog. Please see what steps are involved in carrying for an AAI pup. If you cannot afford surgery you do have the option to conservatively treat in a cast until you are financially able and the bones can strengthen a bit for surgery. If you are not in a position to do eiyher option please do consider surrendering to rescue for Piper to have a chance. I am saying all this with both gentleness and compassion to you and for Piper- but with blunt honesty to act immediately. This is a very serious life threatening moment. |
Hi there, My name is Val and I am the proud mom to Babybear a very severe AAI pup survivor. And I thought I would chime in. Thank you Sherryl for contacting me hon. You are a sweetheart. As for Piper. I have delt with AAI with Babybear and I know there are several avenues you can go down when it comes to h elping these little ones. One is to get a brace around his little neck to protect it. This will put the spine back in line so maybe just maybe with some bedrest and some steroids he will regain some mobility. You can make the neck brace they are very easy. I would also if you can get a second opinion. Right now this little guys spine is in jeopardy it is being crushed by his little vertebra. If you can at least get a collar on him and get the doc to give you some steriods this will help. He needs to heal. And there are several pups here that have survived with the collar. These little guys are special and need to be tended to with a gentle hand. Treated like china dolls because of them being so fragile. So please crate him, collar him and try to get the pills for him. That is at least a start and not to bad in price. Please contact me if you would like any help on how to make these collars. And please give that baby some belly rubs from Babybear and I. |
