Stupid Question I guess....
 
I am curious about something dealing with Roxies hair on her head. If I continue to put it up in a bow, will it pull her hair, I mean to where she will have hair loss on her head? You know with peoples hair, if you continusly pull it up it can cause hair loss (traction)?? Maybe thats just an ignorant question, but it was on my mind..lol..Any help is appreciated though. :D

Well, you don't want to pull it too tight when putting a band in the hair. I cut out the bands so they don't pull. You can use ouchless bands, too. They are easy on the hair. Neither do I leave them in all of the time. Now, someone whose little one has really long hair would have no other option, but I don't keep my little one's hair that long. I keep it at a length where she can either wear it up or down. Hope this helps.:)

Not a stupid question at all. I used band scissors and cut it out when I take their hair down. I use one band to put the hair up and then use clip bows instead of ones that have the band attached. It works really well for me. :) I bought mine from Mimimomo for about $4.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I just had her cut shorter for the summer. When I got her , her coat was long, really long, but it looked like a "hot mess" ..haha..But anyways, I was just wondering, thanks for all the replies so far.

I usually put their hair up and then take the end of the comb and pull out the hair to make it loose. Then I use band scissors (from mimimomo) to but it off. I think if it's loose, you shouldn't have any problems.

My girl has really long hair and elastics do pull. I had her hair up in one everyday and everytime I cut that elastic out and comb her head I get a bit of fluff.

I have been usuing little goodie non-slip clips that I got at CVS. I pull her hair up like im going to put it into a pony tail, twist and plop the clip in. Its so fantastic, I wish I had picked them up sooner.

If we are having a fancy day I'll put her hair up with an elastic & clip on bow, but for around the house the goodie clip is perfect.

I do the clips too! Love them! I sometimes use baby/kid clips.

To answer your question, yes, if the band is too tight, your yorkie can go bald. This happened with Thor in his former life.

Joey's breeder told me to place a metal comb between the topknot band and the scalp, to loosen the band. The band should never be pulled too tight against the scalp. She's seen dogs that had their topknots pulled too tight, and the skin dies and a small part of the scalp turns black from lack of circulation, and of course the area loses any hair.
