Put it this way buying a mixed breed isn't bad. Paying outrageous amounts is. Most ppl who breeded mixed "exotics" are in the for the money. Reason?? Why else breed?? No reason to. Just have puppies?? I was on a 2 1/2 yr waiting list for a breeder to breed her next Show dog. I bought the one who didn't make the cut. What I get is all the breeding linage, heath checks ect. Nothing wrong with mixed breed dogs. I had some. My problem is ppl who purposely breed them. Its for money. Period. A mixed breed dog shouldn't cost more then a Champion show dog pup. But like i said before . Go to any purebred forum.. most will have the same opinions. But to the op. IMO $350 for a Morki no shots. Only u know its worth it. If you want it get it. But $1k or any outrageous amount. Hell no

That is the dictionary definition of reputable, right there. Whether you like it or not. Pick up a dictionary, read the definition, and get over yourself.

Oh, by the way, I went through AT LEAST a dozen breeders before I chose the woman I got Louie from. I called them all, talked to them for a good while, and did some digging. I'm not a freaking idiot, and I wouldn't want to support a crappy breeder, either.

Now I am afraid that since the breeder/vet is 6 hours away, you won't be able to go back for any genetic issue or condition that may arise. I really suggest you get pet insurance for your dog now. And choose an insurance company that covers genetic issues. Don't get that Petsmart/Banfield puppy package. I would go to your local vet and have him check for LP (most common, in fact extremely common). The vet can do it with a palpitation. Check for that and if he has it, tell your vet/breeder. See what she says. Cover your bases NOW. Your puppy is only 6 months old. Not even full grown yet. You cannot say for certain he is healthy.

Paying over $1000 for a Morkie would be crazy, I do have to agree. Personally, I don't see a legitimate reason to hike it over $800, unless they did extensive health testing for whatever reason, and the parents were champions, or whatever. They are pretty hard to find, so I would say I'd pay up to $800 for one from a good breeder.

Yes, people breed for money. However, that doesn't mean they don't care about their dogs and where their pups go. In many cases, yea, I'm sure the breeders don't care. They're jerks. But the ones who do care are just fine.

I'm considering the pet insurance. Also, I'm not really worried that she's 6 hours away. If a problem were to arise, I'd make the trip, or figure something out.

Yes, people breed for money. However, that doesn't mean they don't care about their dogs and where their pups go. In many cases, yea, I'm sure the breeders don't care. They're jerks. But the ones who do care are just fine.
I would be very surprised to hear that a mixed breed dog was champion sired.

It's different with breeders. What genetic testing did she do? How far back did she know the lines of the breeding dogs? How much did the female weigh? What age were the pups when they went to there new homes? Was the there a spay and neuter contract?

I want to be clear here no one is calling you an idiot. A lot of us here got our dogs from bad breeders before we knew better. Mine came from a puppy mill and I have had to watch her suffer from several genetic issues due to poor breeding. I looked into her little eyes after her first surgery and I promised her that I would do anything I could to stop bad breeding and to stop more pups from having to suffer. Besides the fact that it is a said rule that reputable breeders don't breed mixes with mixes there is no breed club there is no one setting the standard no one setting the rules and that can be very bad.

I don't know, and I don't know. The mom was 6 pounds. She started letting them go home at 11 weeks. There was no neuter contract.

You can say all you want, but I know she's a good person, and a good breeder. Whether she's up to your standards makes no difference to me.

Then you can't say for sure she's a reputable breeder. I hope you stick around there is a lot to learn here.

Not everything is black and white, yet that seems to be the way you think. And if that's the case, then there's no arguing with you, because you'll never get it.

Never unless there was a rare accident. Champion sire.....ppl pay for them goods. And with the mind set i doubt the breeder would sell. They don't sell to anyone. There name is at stake. They care about there reputation. There kennel name is there life. IME

You obviously are not looking in the proper shelters/rescues. Bogey and Doodlebug were both from shelter/rescues. Bogey on the left the day he came home (Yorkie) was just about a year old and cost me a whopping $35 adoption fee. Doodlebug (Morkie) was from a rescue and was $200 and 12 weeks old. It's a CHOICE to choose a breeder for a mixed breed puppy and something that I would never do. They are both very healthy and they were not next to impossible to find.

As for a vet breeding mutts....I'd be finding a new vet. :thumbdown

Maybe not but there are several things reputable breeders do that others don't. The biggest is know how far back the lines go because the lines tell you so much about things like what size the pups should be, if genetic issues run in the lines, the amount of pups normally thrown and so on. And it's not just knowing grandpa dog it's farther back then that. There are not many genetic health test but there are a few a reputable breeder will do. Puppies are learning up until 12 weeks and pups who go home before that have a risk of having many issues. I don't want to argue I am just trying to educate you because I care not because I'm some stuck up pure bred pushing person.
