truth is, i had a cat before my daughter was born 7 years ago - and when i got pregnant, i had to move into an apartment - blah blah blah. my aunt was dying to take my cat way before this because she loved her - so when i got in a tight spot, i let her have her (she still has her btw). anyway, i put on my application NO- haven't had pets before. there are so many animals being put to death and they want to interrogate you! i can understand being concerned in the case of puppy mills or animal abusers - but really? that person was right - sometimes it's easier to lie! oh, the funny part is that after i filled out the application, the lady said something, and my husband was like, "yeah, we had a cat..." and i nudged him! good timing right after i said we had no pets! |

I cannot imagine depriving a dog a home because all you are offering is the run of your entire residence instead of the shelter's small cage...wow. |

Nancy1999, if you are going to insist on being logical and compassionate and giving both sides of every debate, so to speak, so that people make rational decisions instead of jumping on the proverbial lighted torch and pitchfork bandwagon...I shall put you on permanent ignore...really...I will. |

Oh why wasn't I wise when I was young! LOL It's a shame it takes almost a lifetime to understand life, then when you finally do you forget it anyhow!:p |

This is only my opinion of course, but I personally would never pay that for a mixed breed dog; I would adopt from the shelter first, I honestly dont even know if I would pay that for a full blooded dog..haha..I cant understand breeders who breed "mutts", I love mutts, but if I wanted one I would go to my local shelter. Just my two cents. |

good for you ! I hope you find a great little pet and glad you took advise about cost - while these guys are cute - that's just plain way too much to pay for any mixed breed ....plus like people mentioned - there's already so many puppies looking for homes - the more these people make the more encouraged they are to do it .... not to mention - the pet population is out of control and worse with all the 'designer' breeds now. That applies to yorkies as well. Too many breeding now and it seems more and more yorkies have horrible health issues and are now also being found all the time in shelters - it's just sad (for ALL dogs) |

Curious I'm about to pay $350.00 for a morkie puppy and it has no papers or shots, is this to much? |

I do agree that if you want a small mixed breed puppy you should check with some shelters first and don't forget about maltese and yorkie rescue groups because they often have mixed breed puppies. However while a morkie is not a purebred some still consider it sort of a breed and they like that mix. Yorkie mix puppies are not always available from shelters and if they are you do not get them for free, the younger and healthier they are the more expensive they are. Some small breed rescue groups will charge as much as $450.00-$500.00 for a healthy small puppy, they do this to help offset the costs of caring for the older pups that have more health issues and are harder to adopt. Not everyone wants to go the rescue route for various reasons, when I started looking for Lola I first went the rescue route, but I could not find a younger pup within driving distance. And since I never had a purebred live past about 9 or 10 I did not want an older dog, I really wanted a puppy. I also had been turned down in the past for not having a fence. To answer the recent poster's question, $350.00 for CA would be a good price for a morkie, but keep in mind if you do not know anything about the people selling the dog you could wind up with tons of health problems down the road. I took a chance and bought Lola a yorkie mix at 16 weeks for $450.00, I took her for a blood work panel the very next day, so far she is 4 and a half and is very healthy, but a friend of mine got a morkie puppy from her friend and it turned out to have liver shunt. So it can be a crap shoot. You really take a chance when you buy or adopt a pup it's just how much of a chance do you want to take and are you knowledgeable. I had owned 4 previous full bred yorkies so I had experience and knew what I wanted, but I also knew what I wanted to spend and that the pup had to be over 12 weeks old. Good luck and hope it turns out well for whatever you decide |
$350 sounds like the price from a byb for CA prices; esp with no papers or shots. Well a morkie wouldn't have papers anyway. At least not any that mean anything. In a pet shop a morkie would easily go for $1200 unfortunately. But at the shelter, as little as under $100. Rescues usually would be about $300-400 also, but most likely not a puppy. To me sounds like a byb, so I would have to ask you, is that the type of person you want to support? |
