Awkward Question...?

Ok so my Ruby is about 10 weeks and she has a stuffed toy dog in her bed with her, just like her breeder told me to have for her cause apparently as a litter, Ruby and her siblings slept with different stuffed toys as well as their mom....

My question is this...she often takes this toy out of her bed and plays with it but i've also caught her...hmm...excuse the phrase here but i really, really can't think of how else to, appropriately, say it, LOL...trying to 'do it' with the toy?

Is this normal? I mean she is like...10 weeks old!!!!:eek:

Could this be like a...domination thing? She's trying to be the boss?

Twinkie2Cute 04-07-2010 11:11 AM

:yelrotflmIt is absolutely normal. Twinkie does this too and I've heard that having her spayed will help. I think all of us have gone through the same embarrassment! The bad thing is, Twinkie does this with my cat!

StacyDufner 04-07-2010 11:16 AM

Mine did it to my Dad's ear. LOL:lol tears

Oh My! I thought mine was bad. LOL.

StacyDufner 04-07-2010 11:39 AM

You should have heard the cackling that was coming out of my livingroom. I thought my Mom and Stepmom were going to die from laughing. It was the funnest thing I have ever seen. After he took Boomer and set him on the floor all he could do was snicker.

Bellasmygirl 04-07-2010 11:44 AM

:shocked7q:shocked7q OMG! I bet that was funny!!!

StacyDufner 04-07-2010 12:01 PM

Marilena sorry to take away from you post. Yes this is normal behavior and after she is spayed she should stop.

marilena4488 04-07-2010 12:12 PM

Oh ok then!!! Cause I was wondering how this could be happening with her being just a puppy!!!

You dad's EAR??? um...how is that possible?

As for trying to do it with the cat....my other dog (she's a 14 y.o. chihuahua) tried to do it with a male cat i had rescued....i also neutered the cat so...don't know what SHE was thinking :D:p:rolleyes::D:D

Thanks for the information though!!! :)

lysiane_souris 04-07-2010 12:39 PM

Bailey use to do it ALL the time to her teddy bear and it stopped after getting her spayed..but funny we are talking about this she did it for the first time yesterday after all this time?? and the teddy bear was on my BF leg so it was funny... :)

cathys 04-07-2010 12:39 PM

Yes, its normal my Sofia has her "special friends". She especially likes my daughters monkey and pig slipper. It grosses my kids out but I think it hilarious, especially because it drives my teenage boys nuts. :D:D:D

MI Yorkielover 04-07-2010 12:55 PM

It's a dominance thing. Sophie did this a couple of times only after she was spayed. Once to my leg when I was on YT and once to her teddy bear. I picked her up and I told her no. She doesn't do it anymore now.

My moms Very large doberman/bloodhound mix humps her cats too. it's so awful but funny at the same time!

Britster 04-07-2010 06:46 PM

Yup - normal, esp. as puppies. Jackson started humping a stuffed bear 2 days after bringing him home at 9 weeks old, haha! He got neutered at 7 months and the only thing he EVER has humped in his life is big teddy bears. Never tried it on another dog or human.

Ya think? My lil Muffin had a stuffed doggie all of her life named appropriately "Doggie":D and she'd take that thing and roll it over on its back and go to town. She never stopped.;)

maryeverett1 04-07-2010 08:30 PM

Well you girls are lucky that it's just humping! LOL. Louis and Paris always used to dry jump eachother until one day (as I was getting coats and hats on to leave for the bus stop with my 2 girls ages 6&3) I found them actually doing it and he couldn't get out and I knew nothing about any of this! The dogs are freaked, I'm definitely freaked and the girls are crying "Mom! They are stuck! Mom do something! Get some scissors! They're stuck!! Why are they stuck?" of course I wasn't going to explain sex Ed to my little girls getting ready to get on a bus! It wasn't funny at the time but it sure has been after the fact! So yes it's normal but be careful (unlike me who had no idea she was in heat) life if factual and I'm holding out for the dream! Luckily my husband loves the dogs because I love the dogs and they make me happy but having to pay $1200 for s c-section is not what I Just came here to get advice and make some friends! Unfortunately that total did not included anyone else of, her life and her clothing at all! :-) have a great night!!

maryeverett1 04-07-2010 08:35 PM

Whoops! Somehow another post got pasted in with what I wrote above! Hate it when that happens! Anyway...one last thing...got a little pup named Napoleon out of that day of humping!! Hahah!! And we are living the dream which is having the best and 3 most precious yorkies to call our own!! And yes I know I'm biased!! :-)

Snookie 04-07-2010 08:46 PM

lol that is too funny! I will have to look out for this when I bring my little guy home next week!

I have a chihuahua that is almost 2, spayed at around 10 months and she humps stuffed toys. so spaying them doesn't stop it..LOL

marilena4488 04-07-2010 09:48 PM

Hahahahahaha ok I'm not worried anymore guys!!! Tbhank you for all the advice and the toooo funny stories!!! :D:D:D

As for spaying, I don't think it would have been an option anyway because I'm not absolutely sure I don't want her to have puppies in the future (apparently there is already a groom waiting on the 5th floor of my aunt's appartment building who is 2 years older and very handsome LOL )....MY chihuahua never had puppies and was never spayed....Is it bad if she never gets spayed but never has pups (and remains a virgin obviously?)?

Here in Greece they have this "if she remains a virgin and not spayed she will go blind" theory...is that true?

Totally changing my thread subject but I thought of it because we mentioned spaying a lot...sorry :p

She wont go blind but she could die! I just had a very young rescue (approx. 2-3 years) who I took into be spayed before placing her. Because she was never spayed and allowed to go into season and not bred (this is also not a reason to breed) she got pyometra and if I hadn't taken her in when I did it could have killed her, or cost me thousands getting her well.

What is pyometra? It's a horrid infection in their uterus that becomes engorged with pus!

I think you will change your mind about not spaying after seeing the pictures. Mindy had no signs of having it because it was closed, no drainage. Only thing i noticed is she had gained about 5 pounds in 2 weeks or less..

marilena4488 04-08-2010 02:20 AM

Oh my God! Ok...well that definitely hasn't happened to my chihuahua (and she didn't go blind either yet!) butI don't want that happening to my Ruby! I don't want to spay her yet either though...I mean, she might have puppies one day (i haven't decided yet because I don't know if she'll get big enough to be able to carry puppies, she's pretty small sized)...

I don't know, we'll see...

How old is your chihuahua? For every heat they go through and are not bred the lining in their uterus thickens and can cause this infection. I don't know why anyone would take this chance, did you see those pictures? Why take that chance???

When I breed, I breed my dogs 3-4 times total and then I spay them. The older the dog gets the higher chance of getting pyometra.

marilena4488 04-08-2010 05:38 AM

My chihuahua is 14 years old and she's never had a problem...she doesn't really have a period anymore now...

Wow, that is great she never had any issues. She has been a lucky girl:) of course it doesn't happen to all females, but to A LOT..:(

marilena4488 04-08-2010 06:09 AM

Yes my chihuahua actually turned out to be a very healthy dog with NO problems whatsoever....and to think we got her 14 years ago in...GREECE! Here they're not very responsible for animals and not so caring....I mean, there are people that care but a lot more that don't!

So we got her from a pet shop, we didn't know anything back then...we just wanted a white chihuahua (a breed not even known in Greece back then, it was the pre-Paris Hilton era, LOL ) and a friend found one in a pet shop.

She never had any problems and she's just the best dog ever....she even travelled to the US at 13 years old when I stayed there with my mom for 8 months cause I was really sick and needed to get treatment....she's just been great.

Her vet says she's lucky to still be alive at this age....and because she's overweight, she's around 15 pounds...a chihuahua!!! But he says she's too old for a diet now....and she loves food!

My Dog Bruno Humps his bed and beats it up all the time.
