| Help with destructive dog!!! Ok..so my yorkie as a year old, and all of a sudden the last couple of days she has started becoming extremely destructive when we are not home. Even when she was little she never really chewed on things. She has torn up my carpet in one corner, completely destroyed my shoe and chewed many other things. I can't understand why she is getting destructive all of a sudden...especially now that she is not really a "puppy" anymore, and never really did it before. It can't be that she's alone more, because if anything we're home MORE with her now...since I'm pregnant and was really sick for awhile so I didn't do anyyyyything outside of work!! Anyone have any ideas?? THey would be greatly appreciated!!

| I'm not an expert, but were you home more for awhile and then went back to a normal routine? Dogs are sensitive and if she got used to you being home and then it changed again, she may have anxiety from that. Has anything in her routine changed? If you have been sick, she may be sensing that as well. Wrigley has separation anxiety, though it has gotten better over time. She used to chew the wall, baseboards, etc... As for shoes, Crosley has a fetish with shoe inserts and I know she will never outgrow this. She's 8yrs old! I'm sorry, I know I'm not offering help, just throwing out possibilities. I hope someone can give you some solid advice! Good luck!

| I think I read that destructive dogs are bored. If you go by Ceasar Milan's methods, take her out for lots of walks, or have someone take him out for lots of long walks. I'm not sure why, but Ruger has become a lot less rambunctious since I started walking him a lot. Last edited by ziggy925; 04-12-2010 at 10:10 AM. |

YT Addict | Yep! If your pregnant, perhaps she isn't getting the attention or mental stimulation that she is used to. A tired dog is a good dog! Aside from walks, playing fetch or other doggie games would probably help.

1st...Congratulations on your future baby! She probably senses this. 2nd... She is only a year old... she is not full grown yet and still will do puppy things. You will have to do some more training mommy. I would also buy her a lot more toys.
