Does the waking me up at 6:30am get better? Mya is VERY insistent that we get up between 6am and 7am. Perfect for when I am working.. but I am on holidays darn it, and I just wanna sleep till 8! lol... She sleeps in her xpen right near my bed, has food, water and toys, and it's covered in pee pads and newspaper. I kinda think that once it gets a little bit light out she can see me, and cries because she wants me. When I got Ollie he was 1.5 (ish) and while he did wake me up too, not this early. He'd stop too if I ignored him long enough and go back to sleep. Mya, on the other hand.. omg. It's like something is in that xpen is trying to kill her. I'm afraid she'll wake up the whole neighborhood and someone will call the SPCA saying I'm abusing her, lol. Oliver stopped waking me up once I let him sleep with me.. but Mya is too young to start that, I don't think I'll let her until she's 6 months or so, depending on how much she grows. She seems to be able to hold it 7 hours at night, as she doesn't go in her pen at all that I can tell. I'm ok with getting up early for now. I'd just like to hear from others that this will get better and she'll sleep longer. Even Oliver is looking at her like please be quiet, it's too early.. lol. I've tried ignoring it because I do want her to learn that we get up when I say we get up... but I only last like 5 minutes and just have to get her, she gets louder and louder. I get migraines if I don't sleep enough, so I guess I'll have to try going to bed earlier and hope that she still makes it to 6:30 ish. Please tell me it gets better! Lie if you have to, lmao. |
Things we do for our furbabies!!! It will get better.;) :cup::cup::cup::coffee2: (You) :woof: (Mya) |
The best investment I have ever made was getting Micro Suede Dark Brown Shades for my bedroom windows. They keep out the light so both Milo and I sleep late:Dr. I found before I had them we were both waking up as soon as the light entered the room. If you can not get darker shades maybe try putting the xpen somewhere in the room where there is not so much in coming light. |
Derby can sleep until about 8 (when we go to bed around 11), and as long as he goes for a pee he'll go right back to bed. I might also add that after he's been out for pee, he wants to cuddle so putting him back in his bed/crate overnight is not an option. We spoil him now and then by leaving him out of it all night sometimes, but that's general consensus. I'm a migraine sufferer myself, and on those nights- i don't even bother putting him in his cage. that way he'll sleep whenever I tell him it's time for a nap. |

As a pup, Jackson used to wake up super early too. 6:30am typically. I got him on my winter break from college when most people are sleeping 'til noon.... ha! Not me ;) He slept in a crate but that didn't last long. One night I let him sleep on my bed (he was maybe 16 weeks old) and he slept through the entire night and 'til 8am. From then on, he's been in my bed! He's never had one accident. But now, at 1 1/2 years old... like on the weekends, he will until 10-10:30am with me if I let him out between 11-midnight. He holds it forever. Weekdays I feel bad getting up because he's just crashed and snoozing and he still doesn't rush outside to go pee... I go to the bathroom first, brush my teeth, while he stretches and wakes up ha. Then he goes right back to bed. |
Our babies are able to read the alarm clock . . .;) :D Seriously, the alarm is set for 5:25am during the week and around 5:22 they start walking around the bed . . .maybe they don't like to hear the buzz buzz from the alarm? On the weekends, like clockwork . .6:45 . . |
Glad to hear I'm not alone.. lol. I think if this continues I will likely let her start sleeping with us much earlier than 6 months, lol. She's over 5 pounds now at 12 weeks, so maybe in a month she'll be big enough for me to feel comfortable with it. Curtains aren't an option, I have two large windows in my room and it would cost a small fortune. I've thought about switching to the crate and putting a blanket over 3 sides, but I just spent $80 on the darn xpen, lol. Guess I'll have to grin and bear it for now. She loves to sleep, so hopefully once she can cuddle with Oliver and I she'll chill and sleep longer. |
Maybe cover the ex-pen at night with a sheet? Bandit woke up super-early when he was a puppy, but now that he's 3 he'll sleep super late. Nala will sleep to about 9 on the weekends but will wait as patiently as she can in her crate if were not up until about 10 and then she'll cry. It will def get better with age, it's just a waiting game. By the end of summer you should be able to sleep MUCH later.... good luck!! |

Sorry to say, I haven't had this problem. :) Twinkie has slept with me from the beginning. We have stairs at the bottom of the bed, so when she has to go potty, she walks down the stairs, potties and comes right back up and sleeps. If she's not in the mood to sleep, she will look out of the window or play with one of her toys, or bully sticks, until I wake up. I'm sure if she didn't sleep with me, I might have the same issue. Good Luck! ;) |
Is she waking up because she has to go potty? Callie used to wake up around 2am and then around 6am, then she got to just waking up around 6am and now she will sleep in some times till 11am but a lot of the time I have to wake her up and say ok time to get up. |

I agree 100% with you.. I put a huge blanket in my window as we only get 4hours of darkness during the summer and always left it there because I notice that Bailey sleeps in until I get up :) |

I guess we all go through this. I ended up letting Calleigh sleep with us when she was still 2.5 lbs. and only 12 weeks old because she used to drive me crazy and whine all night until I picked her up. I tried a hot water bottle, a clock in the crate with her, etc. etc. and the only thing that worked was letting her sleep with us. It worked!!!! Good nights and long sleeps began and no accidents on my bed.... :aimeeyork:animal-pa |
When Samy was 3 months old he would wake up sooo early... 5:30-6am and would scratch on the door and cry a little until we get him in the room or tell him to cut it out. At 4 months he started waking up a bit later, around 7-7:30am but he was completely in the dark and if we did not open the door he would rip the pee pads into pieces. Now he is 5 months old and would sometimes sleep until 12pm on weekends. This Easter season I actually had to wake him up as it was 1pm and he was still sleeping heheheheh and then took him into bed and he slept until 3pm while we were watching tv. With age they sleep more and more which is really nice on weekends and holidays :) I know this because i take care of this 2 year old female yorkie and she sleeps a lot during the day and all through the night! In the mornings now when we get up to go to work - around 8am - we have to wake him up!!! |
Oh, I am so glad to hear that it does get better with time! I think I am going to switch from the xpen to the crate and take her out once in the middle of the night. We are working a lot on potty training. She's in her crate right now because she refuses to potty outside, she waits until we come in (literally, she'll go the second we walk in the door). So, if she doesn't potty outside, she spends time in her crate and we try again. It's heartbreaking to hear her cry, but the sooner she gets it, the sooner life will be better for us all. Thankfully she usually only goes once every 3-4 hours, so we don't have to go through this much.. so far, only once a day as she usually goes! She's just over 5 pounds, so does she need to eat overnight? She hasn't been touching the food I've left in her xpen. She is fed 4 times a day, once right before bedtime, that should get her through till morning at her size, right? |

I took the xpen back today. The crate works MUCH better, she loves it in there! I covered 3 sides and left the side facing me uncovered. She did cry when I put her back in it after our late night pee break, but she settled quick - AND - I got to sleep until 8:30, and I woke HER up. It's a much better fit for us, and easier to move around the house. If only potty training could be as easy as that, lol. Was nice to save the $90 on the crate and $26 for the stuff we put underneath it (think it was called wainscotting). My Visa is happier, lol. Thanks so much for everyone's advice! I feel so stupid when it comes to puppies, so I'll likely have more questions in the months to come. Nice to know I can come and learn from those with so much more experience than I have. |

Simon is 6 years old and wakes me up at 6:11am EVERY SINGLE DAY :) not 6:12 or 6:10 it's exactly 6:11!!! I just gave in and made it routine :) |
Our baby Miley has always had the option to sleep in our bed or crate bed. In the beginning we put her in her bed with the door open. She has spent many nights in there but in the last 3 months she has always chose to get in bed with us. I love it when she curls up right next to me. Never had 1 potty accident in the bed or the crate. Somehow they just know that going potty in the bed is a No No. Sleeping with your pup is just priceless. |

I agree with the other posts here about removing the water or curtailing their water intake as bed time approaches. This will enable them to hold their bladder longer and make it through the night without having to wake you up. Kathleen:aimeeyork:dogzzz::dogzzz: |
Nope, not in my world, it's 7-8am, I guess I've gained an hour since she was a puppy. Shayna's 16 months and it used to be 2am and 6am but we have alot less 2am's and with the time change I get to sleep till 7am. I wish she'd sleep later. |
