I would definitely get the Care Credit card, and since you're a student it will help you build your credit:)

If your not comfortable with that vet, maybe someone on here could recommend a better vet in your area. Good luck with everything, I hope all goes well!!

Yes, but I would still ask for an itemized bill. I know that in an emergency they can charge whatever they want, but I would want to know exactly what I'm paying for.

At the ER vet here, you are given the itemized bill upfront detailing all the tests they recommend after a brief exam . You have to sign the paperwork and pay it before they will even treat your pet. If you can't pay it, they turn you away.

It sounds harsh, but I understand. They just had too many people who couldn't pay, but still told the vet to do expensive tests. Or lost a pet and then refused to pay.

I hope your little guy is okay. I got insurance for Ruger. Haven't had to use it yet, but I guess I was thinking if he got sick I wouldn't have to worry as much about the costs. It was that, or get a credit card just for him and pay it off over time if I had to.

We have an 24/7 pet emergency hospital here that's pretty reasonable, but I guess it's a lot like when you have to go to the ER. It's probably going to cost you about $1500 when you walk in the door.

Keep us posted, both on Kobe and the bills.

Pet emergency hospitals are very expensive...we have a great one here on Long Island, but it costs a small fortune when we have to use it. I hope they gave you an itemized estimate before they did anything to your pup...but the reality is..if your pup needs it, you are going to do it anyway...at least that is how it is with me. My prayers are with you and your Kobe. :animal-pa

Just remember pet insurance doesn't work like our insurance does. Veterinary ER clinics do not take insurance like hospitals do. You still have to pay the bill upfront, then submit the forms and wait to be reimbursed from the insurance company.

I'm in Goldsboro..I think my vet is pretty reasonable..altho none of my animals have had anything done but..checkups..boarding ..neutering or spaying. They have just built a huge new bldg. tho..so who knows?!

Goldsboro is reasonable, too.

An office visit is $35 here in Pinehurst, $55 up in Raleigh. All the services are much more expensive.

Holy Moly, I know this post is over a month old but our vet is registered with SPAY USA and to spay a pup here (small animal vet specialist) and pain pills will cost around 50-75 dollars. I'm sure our paychecks are substantially less too ;)

I Live in California, and our ER visit with xrays, exam and meds was around $200 I think for $1500 a "tummy upset" and antibiotics he may not even have needed is a bit to extreme.
