Because I think u all are very educated on a lot. of things and I have learned a lot from u all and have listened and bought things u all have suggested. But when it comes to him being outside or not ill def listen to the vet. |

P.S. I was able to nurse/tube feed my litter around the clock, with medication and with my boss (my vet's) help we were able to get each pup through the Parvo virus, which was very unusal at the time, since any pup that got this bad virus back then died. I was very lucky!! |

But i am not a bit surprised you would ask for advice, then tell us your going to do it your way anyhow and throwing out what all the people here have advised you to do and not to do, and why! Personally I feel yorkies, and other small toys should NEVER be ran. A walk, sure but not running. get a bigger dog if you want it to go on runs with you. |

You got questions like that and your only going to listen to your vet, then please ask him instead of all of us.:confused: |
Hi Natnatt :) I just hope you will ask a different vet, different vets have different idea... but I was told by 3 different vets not to bring my little one out until she's fully vaccinated. I believe you only want to give the best to your puppy, otherwise you wouldn't stay and ask questions, please just hold a little longer, you can bring him out 2 weeks after the final shot :) |
better yet, take that pup to an orthopedic vet and ask them that question about running!! I can promise you that he/she will confirm everything said here about not doing it!!!!!!!!! |
Once he gets older, running should be fine. Jackson runs for a while -- he went up to 1 mile but I've never tried further, mainly because I can't run longer! ;) I think small dogs can definitely run long distances and it's good for them, but yours is so little and so small, it will probably be too much. I got Jackson at 9 weeks old but he was larger at 5lbs at the time. I also, under my vets permission, took him outside because we immediately began outdoor potty training. He never went to a dog park or a Petsmart or a public park though until later, just my backyard and my dad's backyard with his 2 dogs who I know are healthy and vaccinated. |

You shouldn't shut your mind to something because it isn't what you want to hear.....besides - there's alot of non members who read this site - so what's said isn't only directed to you - it's for all puppies in general there's alot of people here who really do know what they're talking about ...if you think it's worth asking why isn't it worth listening to ? |
Well - OP, I think you should ask other vets. I know first hand there are vets that know and are interested in small breeds and others that like larger breed of dogs. I had a hard time finding a good vet when I moved just 30 minutes north to a more rural area. I knew from my past vet what was good medicine, but most in my area now are not up with things. For example, I had two c-sections recently (over the past 2 years) and one vet placed in stiches that had to be removed 10 days later (old way) and the recent one I used just 9 weeks ago placed in stitches that disolve, so no pulling out sitiches (more advance way). Two different vets just 10 min. away from one another. The later vet also used technology more and could place the x-rays over the computer and gave me a copy. The other vet did not even take x-rays. So you have to be very careful. I thought both vets were good until I had to use them and realize there was a big difference. Even with my interview of the vets, seemed I missed a lot with the the first vet I tried. I know better now. I highly recommend asking your vet some specific yorkie health questions to be sure they are up with everything. Not saying they are wrong - just saying there can be difference. MHO - I want a vet that specializes with small breeds and knows the yorkie breed well. Also - I always bring in a pee pad to place my dogs on if I have to go to the vets. I never let them walk on the floor or have direct contact with the tables. Just being smart - so my dog's do not catch anything - just one thing I can do as an owner to protect my dogs. |

Nat, you are making a mistake. But, it is ultimately your decision. He is too young to run, and even when he is 2 years old, he will be too small to run distance....as far as the vaccinations, wait until after he has had all of them and has the immunity. Do what is best for the dog. As far as what avet said, there are good and bad vets. For everyone that was 1st in their class, there is one that finished last. If something bad should happen, think your best will lose a lot of sleep over it? |
You are allowed to question a vet and I would question ANY vet that would say it's ok for a puppy who is 8-9 weeks and weighs 1.8lbs and doesn't have all their shots to run for a mile outside! If it were me, I would not only question but I would be searching for another vet! Not to mention that is their opinion and knowing there are other opinions that say to NOT do that. I would always err on the side of caution, but that's me! |

Honestly, I don't know why all of you keep wasting your time on this one. She just likes to yank your chain! We all know that her vet DID NOT tell her it was ok to take a 9 wk old puppy out *without all of it's shots* - much less for a mile hike! The best thing to do is not respond to her posts until she decides to stop playing these games. |
If you don't plan on listening to the answers, don't ask the question. I'm sorry but that is rather immature. Like a teenager who will just do what she wants in the end anyways. Keep in mind that your vet does NOT know everything, and your vet will not treat your puppy for free when it gets sick from being outside too early. I would be finding a new vet if mine told me it was ok for Mya to go out for walks already. She goes out in the backyard to potty and that is IT. Leave the dog at home and find other ways to tire him out. This is not about you, this is about him. He's had one hell of a start, and he deserves a chance to live and be safe and happy - and it's YOUR job to make sure he gets that. |
