New Puppy Found Maybe - "Tall Legs" ??? So many have been so helpful with my search for the perfect yorkie for me. I think (keeping fingers crossed) that I have located one in my state so he won't need to be shipped. He sounds like the one. Two breeders referred me to the same breeder and said that she is wonderful. I have not seen a pic of him yet, one will be sent soon. My only concern is that he is described as having "tall legs". The image in my mind is not good but I don't think that my image is reality. Sometimes my imagination runs wild. Anyway, if anyone has a Yorkie with "tall legs" could you please share a pic with me. Thanks......................................Pat p.s. I am so excited that this might be the one. |
Just be sure to see both parents, too. You don't want any surprises. I have no advice about tall legs. I suppose that with all of the breeds that comprise a yorkie there are some that have longer legs than others. Do you know when they're going to send you a pic? Good luck!:) |
I am going to call her in a little while to ask her to send the picture. I believe she just had puppies (well, she didn't!) a couple of days ago so I'm thinking she may have things than are more important than sending me a pic. I really hope that this is the one as it is exhausting trying to find the right one! :) |
1 Attachment(s) Here's my boy Jimi. Attachment 312597 He has very long legs, but he is also much larger than the standard at 10lbs. |
Oh my goodness, Jimi is soooo cute. Thanks for posting a pic. |
3 Attachment(s) Your welcome. :) I took a few more pics of him a few minutes ago for you. I hope these allow you to see his legs better. Attachment 312600 Attachment 312601 Attachment 312602 |
He is too cute! I think the "tall" legs will be fine. The one that I am thinking about is about 6 1/2 lbs. |

I thought Tiki had "tall" legs around 6 months, then her body grew longer and she's thin, and now at 2yrs., I don't think of her as so tall anymore. |
He is 11 months. |
I know what you mean. My parents just got a shih tzu with "tall legs" and I asked them if they were sure she was a shih tzu, lol. The vet said, though, that she is definitely a shih tzu! I guess all breeds can have "tall legs". |
4 Attachment(s) Hi! I have a yorkie named Bailey with tall legs. I got him from a very good breeder (she shows her yorkies at dog shows and is really concerned with the proper looks and behaviour) Bailey's mom was a show dog champion and she is a tall legged yorkie (weights 4 lb). His dad on the other hand is short legged and is 3.8 lb. There were two male puppies in this litter. When I was talking to Bailey's breeder on the phone she asked me whether I wanted a short legged puppy that took after his mom or the long legged one who had shorter legs like dad. I had no idea! When I visited, I couldn't really see much distinction in the structure of their legs myself, but one puppy was bigger than the other in general. I picked the bigger puppy (they both were still super tiny) Mainly, I picked Bailey because of his personality, but also I thought that he may be healthier than his super tiny brother. I met both of Baileys parents and they were both very cute looking. I only saw the difference in legs, when the breeder placed his parents side by side to show me what she meant. But, unless you look at them side by side It's difficult to tell the difference. If anything, I think the fact that you are being told that this puppy is long legged means that this breeder knows what she's talking about. Bailey has grown to be bigger than his mom and his dad. He is about 6 lb, last time I checked. He feels pretty light and skinny though. His legs are on the longer side, but it allows him to be able to jump on and off the couch with little effort. He can also run up and down the stairs very easily. It's also funny how he can hide his legs and roll in a very small ball when he sleeps, or be able to wrap his long paws around your neck when you carry him around. :) I wouldn't worry too much about the long legs, because unless you put two yorkies side by side, it would be hard to tell the difference. And besides it is a totally normal for a purebred yorkie to have longer legs (Bailey's mom who was a show champion has long legs) Hope that helps! Please post some pics when you get your little one! I'm sure he'll be super sweet... Oh, and here are some pictures of Bailey. He's currently 9 months. |

My boys are tall and have what I consider long legs. I love the way they look and the way they move. Teddy is 6.5 pounds and Maximo is 8.0 pounds. You can see their pictures here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...eet-teddy.html |
Thanks for all of the input. After seeing all of these adorable Yorkies with "tall" legs I have to say that they are just as cute as can be and I am not concerned at all about it anymore. I can't wait for the breeder to send me a picture. The funny thing is that another breeder that I contacted via email did not have any puppies right now but referred me to the breeder where (Hopefully) my Yorkie is. The breeder, not knowing that I was already considering this dog, told me how cute this 11 month old male is and how sweet he is. I think that was a sign that this is the one! |
Jersey boy has long legs too! It does seem like the older he gets the more he grows into them!! He's almost 14 months You can see pics in my album:) |
Riley has kinda long legs as well,,but it looks fine,he is just somewhat taller than the other yorkies around here, but its ok though because his long legs are balanced out by his long ears..lol |
My Rucker is 22 weeks and I think he has long legs. We took him to the groomer this week and the groomer cut him short. When we got home, the first thing my three year old said was..."She (the groomer) made his legs longer!" It was so funny. |
1 Attachment(s) Uni's the queen of long legs! She's 9" tall from floor to shoulder and only 8 3/4" long from base of neck to base of tail. LOL! I was supposed to do a Supermodel long legs YT club, but I just never got around to doing it. I am growing out her hair to mask her long legs, but I actually think they make her more agile, more shock absorption. Also, since I am now taking care of Katie who is a short legged yorkie, I've come to think that potty training a tall one is easier bc you can tell when they are squatting. The shorties you can hardly tell when they are in squat postion.:p Check out this pic of Uni at the beach with her hair wet. Are those some super giraffe reindeer legs or what? ETA: I forgot to say when she was a puppy she had normal short cute legs and small ears, and then had a growth spurt. |
Remy has long legs, she stands 9 inches at the shoulder and weights 5 LBs. She is very fine boned .I love her height it makes her look more in proportion.I see so many yorkies at the park that have very short legs and it makes their bodies look longer and out of proportion.Ive always refered to Remy as super model tall even though she really is only about an inch taller that most of the short legged yorkies at the park ! I really like the picture of Uni on the beach -- beautiful face and lighting and stance...she could be the next covergirl for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. |

Thanks everyone for your pics/comments. The breeder sent me a picture and, oh my, he is one handsome little boy. She measured him and said that he is about 10 1/2 inches tall and about 10 1/2 inches from chest to butt. Whatever his size, he is too cute and I can't wait to get him. We are having out-of-town company so I feel it's best to wait for them to leave before picking him up. Keeping my fingers crossed that this works out................................. Pat |

Everyone's furbabies are soooo cute!!! :) The tall legs topic rarely comes up, so it was very cool to see others that are built similarly! It would be interesting to do a survey in the surveys section of this website to get an idea of what proportion of yorkies have short vs. long legs. It would be kind of neat... |

My Scampers is a tall yorkie. He is only 6lbs but because of his height some might think he looks bigger. He too is like a square, just as long as he is tall. |
When my breeder was describing both Pixie and Roxie she said they were a little up on leg but I think they look great especially in full coat. It really shows off their coats. |
I will try to post a picture but it's not a good one. His eyes look funny because of the lighting......................Pat |
