walking more than one dog? how do you guys do it ? I have 2 dogs and 2 leads and Im sure people are laughing their heads off when I get in a tangle, which is often lol I have seen these duel leads , it clips onto each harness and only one main lead. Anyone use such a thing and if so do they eventually walk together. Tia is a heeler where Olly is off and running lol |
I walk two dogs also with two leads. It can be kind of funny if my neighbors are looking! I have had them tangled around bushes, trees, fences, you name it. I am trying to train Halo to walk on the right and Twinkie to walk on the left. I am constantly undoing the leads. I keep telling myself to be patient! :eek: I haven't tried the dual lead and I am also curious if it works. I doubt in my case it would help. Just Breathe! :yelrotflm |
Julie, I don't know if you remember, but when you were first talking about getting another one, I mentioned, that one of the downsides was walking two, and trying to take two w/u, when you go to people's houses...I also don't know if you know the song "She'll Be Riding Six Wild Horses, When She Comes" lol...But I told a friend of mine, the first few times I walked Apple and Buzz, that song was buzzing in my head...lol...It gets better, but it's still not as relaxing, as walking w/one...But the upside is it's still better to have two, than one...It's just one of those "it is what it is" things...I've heard two separate leashes are better than the one, although, I haven't tried the two leash thingy...It'll get a little easier, as you learn to maneuver them w/the leash over your head, around your back, and criss-crossed...Just don't drop one!!! |

You can do it!!! Aw Come on! LOL I have two of those double leashes and when I get really confident I take all four of mine! Yes, just yesterday I put all four on the one leash!! I know I would've won BIG TIME on AFV, but we did it!! It looked exactly like "She'll be driving 4 cute yorkies"!!! :p I usually just walk two at a time for about 25 minutes, then come back and get the other two. I think it's just a matter of training the pups - and I think it's important to train them one-on-one. Like I would teach Ollie how to walk on a leash w/o Tia there. It takes practice and patience. :) I only have Jackson but have walked up to 4 dogs at 1 time and it's a whole heck of a lot easier when they are all trained... my dad has 2 dogs so occasionally I walk all 3 together and it's difficult because one of them is a huuugeee puller, causing the other 2 to wanna pull too, LOL. Yet when I walked my mom's friends 2 dogs and Jackson all 3 together, it wasn't too difficult because none of them pulled. It's always the hardest at first trying to get all the leashes organized. lol. |
I think the leash couplers only work if the two dogs have the same walking style. I use two retractable leashes and yes sometimes they tetherball around things. Katie is a good walker, so she walks right by me, and I let Uni run ahead and act the fool, like she is. |
I have tried everything. My 6 yr old pug is verrrrrrrrrrrry slow and Mia loves to sprint. I take them separtely but once a day they go together. I end up carrying Mia |
When I got my second yorkie, some wise soul on YT told me about a leash splitter. You can get them at Petsmart, Walmart, etc. It hooks 2 leashes together. I use it all the time and it works out great... |
If you want to walk two at a time, use two leashes, put one on each side of you, hold the leashes within about two feet of the dogs, and each time they try to charge ahead, stop. Wait till they relax then start again. It doesn't take long for them to walk nicely. ;) |
Mine could not share a single leash with separate tethers. When Daisy goes crazy which she does sometimes when they see another dog or a person they really want to see, they can work themselves into a tizzy spaztic fit of agression. This can lead to them attacking each other, strange, but this is the only time this happens and its violent enough that I cant let them near each other. |
I walk Sam and Ollie with a coupler that hooks onto their harness then onto one leash. They do pretty good when we are outside walking, altho Sam gets a lil impatient if Ollie wants to potty. Its a give and take. It takes about a block before they start being patient with each other. I cannot take them into Petsmart on one leash tho as I think they think they are Pit Bulls, yanno, twice as big. They go Cujo, not tryin to bite anyone but they just sound like they are going to kill somebody. But if separate, they dont say a word:rolleyes: |
i use two couplers and two leaches for 4 dogs and i dont have a problem but you have to get a rythem |
LOL too funny.....before we went to florida I was trying to practice with the 2 of them on separate leashes, thought my husband was going to have a heart attack laughing at me, all tangled up...and we barely made it through the kitchen..lol...so I bought that cupler, and use one leash..even though we havent made it out for a walk yet...waiting for Bella to have all shots, before we do....we do practice in the house...lol... |
