taking the furbaby on an airplane Hi, I want to know whether anyone knows if you have to pay more to carry your furbaby on the plane in his carrier as your carry on bag? I know you have to pay more when they put them underneath, but there's no way that's happening!!! Also, do you have to tell them you're bringing them on board?

You will pay a pet fee... usually around 100 EACH WAY, some planes are slightly less. You need to have a bag that fits under the seat in front of you (check the airlines website for measurements).

What airline are you planning to take... maybe you will get lucky and be on one of the "cheap" ones, although the lowest I have seen is like 65 and I dont consider that cheap

The airlines have very strict rules about traveling with pets. To travel in the cabin they must be in an airline approved carrier that will fit under the seat. They do have to be under the seat during take off, landing, turbulence, etc. In addition to the airline fee, all pets must have a health certificate from a vet will will also cost $$. This is an excellent website: Airline Rules Pets Regulations Cabin Cargo Airplane travel for your pet.

Here's what you need to know: 1. Check your airline for their carrier measurements. Must fit under the seat in front of you. 2. Must have proof of rabies shot if you are traveling between states. 3 Must have a vet health certificate that is within 10 days of your departure. 4. Cost varies, check with individual airlines. SW is $75 each way. 5. You must register you pet before you are on the plane. Each airline has a number you call. Call way ahead of time as they limit the # of pets allowed on each flight. Good luck, we've flown 3 times and it has been a GREAT experience each time. Be sure you do your homework and cover all the requirements. Hope this helps~
