I must have missed a post somehwere that turned this breeder into a bad place? I thought you said this was a friend or something like that who sold a pup to someone else you know? Now suddenly this is a horrid place for a pup to be? You obviously knew this long ago. FOr the dogs sake I sure hope this baby does not loose your love when he gets bigger than you expected, which happens a LOT more than them staying small. |
:(It is really too bad this poster is not getting a very good response from everyone on YT. One wonders why she doesn't want to be here anymore. Why can't everyone just give good advise on how to care for the puppy instead of scaring her off? We YT oldies all know the rules on selling and raising yorkies but it doesn't stop the fact that a 6 week old puppy is going to a new home and the poster is asking for help to make it work. :eek:HELLO YORKIETALK PEOPLE BE NICE FOR ONCE! These type of posting scare people off and do no good in the long run.:( NATNATT - good luck with your new baby and I hope you enjoy being a yorkie mom...... |

If people are blunt it's for one reason, the love of the pup. I don't think anyone has been mean to this person. Giving her advice based on good solid experience and facts. |
If you decide to leave YT, ignore all of us, and get the puppy anyway, then that is truly your loss. Perhaps someday you will come to realize what we are all trying to explain to you. Trust me, the reason why these members are so persistent is because they are so passionate about this! We have seen it occur time and time again! Why should an innocent puppy be forced to suffer because of its owner's ignorance? Let's just hope that this poor baby survives. |

I agree with Jeri... The OP has decided to keep the pup, so now it up to us as a YT family to help guide her for the sake of the YORKIE puppy!!! Please let's try to help the pup... :) Quote:

Another thing to consider is this pups enviornment is being changed......Coccidia is a great possibility.....bloody diarreah......and with one this age it can be fatal. Am I trying to scare? YES. |
You've bought your new puppy some really cute things, I know you are super excited, and it may seem like we are all coming down on you so hard, but you have to understand, we've read about this sort of thing so many times before. Before a puppy reaches two pounds their life seems so fragile, I mean one day they are fine and the next day they are gone, and it's really important to have an experienced person available who knows the signs of distress. I wouldn't be able to read those signs, I've never even seen a 6 week old yorkie, how are you going to read those signs, and how will you know what to do in the event of an emergency? Add to that is the fact you will be leaving him alone for long periods when no one can observe him. The main thing I'm bothered about is the fact that the dog is taking a flight alone, this is terribly traumatizing for a puppy, and when dogs get nervous their blood sugar drops, which puts them at a very high risk for death. Larger breeds mature faster, and at 6 weeks they are much more stable. I know you love this puppy already, but please don't allow him to fly so young. How will you feel if he doesn't make it? You should always take the more cautious approach when you are responsible for a living being. There is not one person here who thinks flying a puppy that young is safe, please put your own needs aside, and show this puppy the love you have for it, by not allowing it to be flown this young. |
Okay.........trying to help......... Do you live close to where you work? Is there any way you can set up a webcam or something so you can keep an eye on the baby? Is there any chance you can take him with you for the first few weeks? My puppies are 7 weeks old now and they cuddle up to sleep together. I've been putting juice bottles of hot water under the sides of their blankets on their bed to give them a spot that is warmer. I've also been giving them a bit of goat milk in with their water to make sure they are drinking enough. They have dry puppy food all the time and I give them softened kibble 3 or 4 times during the day. I don't know if it's good or not, but I give them a little bit of human babyfood (the meat) before they go to bed at night. They are still getting me up almost every night for a snack since Mom quit feeding them. I wish you luck and hope you and your baby will do well. |

I'm not sure where this pup is being flown from. But, if memory serves me correctly, I don't think airlines will fly a pup at this young age, because of the danger of losing it while in flight. |

:thumbdown Have you read everything that has been posted about the OP, her situation and this pup..She has been offered a ton of good advice and she has chosen to ignore most of it.. did you see the post where she is so worried that the dog will get bigger than 5 pounds and that she doesnt want a dog that big!! Sorry I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who is clearly being irresponsible... |

If you recall there was another thread that someone lost a yorkie because of a situation. Everyone offerred sympathy, but no one really voiced to the OP what lead to this dogs death. A year later the same thing happened with another dog. Were we at fault, probably not, but we may have been able to prevent the same exact accident had we spoken up the first time. There are times that we may not like what we're hearing from people, but we need to hear it. |
I understand it's so scary and very risky and I know you don't mean to be "mean". Everyone is scared (emotions are high) and everyone is looking out for the welfare of the pup and just HOPING that something will change the OP's mind. I just personally don't see that happening, so instead of scaring her off completely I think it's a good idea to keep he around in the event that something does happen to the pup so she has all the YT family knowledge to help... I had a puppy flown to me once, she was a poodle so larger then a yorkie to begin with and the breeder wouldnt let her come until 16 weeks, that is over two months longer then the OP is waiting... she was still dehydrated and ill after the flight and had lost a full pound from the experience. I cant imagine if this pup lost a pound or became dehydrated. :( |

I'm not sure if you have gone back and read through the other threads from this poster. If you have, then clearly you can see why people are frustrated and very scared & concerned for this puppy. I really have to disagree, TONS of advice has been passed along at this point. In fact in one prior thread on potty training, people tried to point out that the issue of hypoglycemia was a major concern and the response was that she didn't ask for an opinion on that! At this point I really don't know what else there is to be said. I stated in my prior post there are books to read, there are plenty of forums on YT that if you read offer tons of advice and again advice has been posted in her threads. Yes, she is going through with getting the puppy at this point and I do hope the puppy makes it through the flight and will be ok. Everyone wants that! If, I were being honest though. I hope the airlines follows the law and doesn't allow this puppy to get on the plane! I think it's way too risky! |

I also want to add that I don't think a Web cam is a suitable substitution for being there. What could look like a puppy sleeping on camera could be something very different. I had no idea some breeders left young puppies alone, all day. |

If all the rules are to be followed, the pup would need a Health Certificate, no good vet would issue one on a pup this young. |

"HEALTH CERTIFICATES The USDA requires that your pet must be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned before traveling. Only pets in good health are permitted to fly. Airlines will not transport animals that are violent, ill, or in physical distress. All pets crossing state borders, with the exception of guide dogs, are required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to have a rabies immunization and valid health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days of travel. If your pet is traveling via cargo, or if you are a breeder, dealer, or research facility transporting a dog, the health certificate should be issued no more than 10 days before departure." |
