I can not stand stupid people. I was at the pet store because i needed some rabbit food i run into pet supply plus because it was on the way home and i was out. well for a Tuesday afternoon it was packed i was looking at the dog toys when a lady and a young girl come in and the little girl points to Gatsby and says "look mommy a Yorkie" the lady says "that is not a pure Yorkie it is much to big" Gatsby is a very compact 6 pounds he really looks smaller then that my moms 6 pound dog towers over him and its a chi. i look up at the woman and said that yes indeed Gatsby was a pure Yorkie she looked at me like i was crazy she gave me a very matter of fact look and said "yorkies dont get bigger then 4 pounds" i told her the standard was up to 7 pounds and she told me i was stupid she raches into her hand bag and pulls out this tiny little yorkie and says "this is a yorkie" well we get into a very heated disscussion and she told me i was jelouse because i had a huge mutant yorkie and while she is yelling at me she is flinging her hand bag around with the dog inside i know i should just bite my tounge and walk away but i just could not do it in the end we both got kicked out |
You're right about some people being ignorant. If this kind of thing happens again just shake your head from side to side and muster up a big, long, loud laugh directed at her and walk away. People HATE to be laughed at when they are mad or think they're right :p. At least you won't be the one who gets kicked out ;) |

I am vertically challenged, and my Brother is almost 6'6"....he knows how you feel! When he was 2, and I was 5, he was taller! No one asks him how the air is up there, or asks me if we have the same parents, even though I sometimes wonder myself! Some people just lack common sense. THe longer you live, the more you see! |

Idiots like that are part of the reason why puppy mills still exist. I was raised in NE TN and I have no problems giving someone an a** whoopin' if I have to. I guess that little redneck girl is still inside of me. Especially when it comes to my Lucy, my bf, or my family! I'm glad you stood up for the truth. I'm still upset over her waving the handbag around with this small yorkie in it. I mean, I take Lucy everywhere but I am SOOO careful with her. Even when I'm driving I make sure I take turns slower and stuff. Hehehe. People like that shouldn't own anything that relies on her stupidity for survival. :heart toKandi |

You know it really amazes me how ignorant and stubborn some people can be. I tried once to explain to someone that her yorkie wasn't a special breed (teacup) that they can come in all sizes and colors but they are still only one breed but that didn't get through.:rolleyes: Thankfully I've only run into a few who refused to accept advice even though they obviously know very little about the breed and then you just want to wring their necks, lol. Fortunately most people I have met are very open to learning. |
Good for u for standing up and trying to educate this misinformed lady.:thumbup: I myself have ran into a few that were really rude and uneducated themselves about yorkies:mad:. thanks for the kind words i was soo upset the only thing i was thinking was thank god i don't have Sara with me (three pounds) i would never have been able to tell this lady what a idiot she was. i just could not get over this woman swinging her handbag with a dog inside and this was not a pretty dog carrier it was purse with no ventilation. is that even safe? ug i hate stupid people |
hehehe...sorry i just have to laugh. we went to pet smart this weekend and of course we had Sophie who is 9 lbs with us. and there is this lady telling me how cute she is and how her next dog will be a pure bred yorkie. i told her sophie is a purebred she looks at me like i am nuts. and of course i get the answer of she's too BIG to be a pure bred yorkie...i in turn tell her to join yorkietalk and she will learn yorkies come in all sizes....dumb people. but i really do hope she joins before she gets a yorkie :animal36 |
I know how you feel! I was at the dog park the other day with my 4 little ones who are 5#, 5.5#, 3# and 8# and a lady comes up and said "Oh what beautiful silkies". I told her they were yorkies and she said aren't they kind of big. My little guy who is only 3#, how can he be big. People are crazy! I'm glad you stood up to that lady!!! |
WOW! That lady is crazy, she's going to kill that poor pup! Something similar happened to me, I got so tired of it that I turned the tables on people. Kaji is definitely not a teacup, wrong coat type, not the right coloring either (he's black/gold and a salt and pepper head :)) and of course his biggest fault of all, his big floppy ears (the reasons I fell in love with him. :D) At first it would irk me to take him places and people would ask me what kind of dog he was. I got so tired of the surprised looks when the answer would be yorkie that I started changing my answer. He was once a pit bull terrier mix pup. That really got a reaction!!! :eek: |
this was my first encounter with a stupid person and i was so upset i just could not believe her i have never heard a person say that Yorkies only get 4 pounds i cannot imagine a person not doing any research before they get a dog i researched for 3 years before i got Gatsby and i still did not know all the info i should have (of course if i had got gatsby when i wanted to it would have been another two years) |

I just feel bad for the dog and the daughter. I would imagine that the dog was getting motion sickness as well as suffocating in that bag. :( I have always said that there are people out there who should not have pets or children! I was a cashier at a grocery store way back and and a woman picked up the wrong item and when it rang up at a higher price, she aruged with me in front of her daughter...that really didn\'t upset me but then she told her daughter, "you have to watch these people, they will steal you blind!" That made me mad and I held up the line and went and got the item that she thought she was getting and it rang up the correct price. Did she apologize or correct herself to her daughter, NO. Boy I bit my tounge til it was almost bleeding! |
