Some people are over the top. I would have been so pissed if someone would have said that about Ella. Your little one is perfect. She's the one who doesn't have a clue what she's talking about. |

She needs to go to the library and do some reading on Yorkies. And I guess she has never watched a dog show. |

Many people do not know the Yorkie's breed standard. I wish you never met that woman in the store that day. She got ugly. Gatsby is adorable. We all know your Yorkie is within the weight standard for Yorkies. Too bad this woman does not know that Yorkies should weigh seven pounds or less. Some people assume that if a dog does not meet part of the breed's standard then the dog is not purebred. Josh does not represent the best specimen of the breed, so I am prepared for people to tell me Josh is not purebred. Right now, I am lucky that I have not met those types of people, but I am prepared to meet them someday. :D In my opinion, people do not have the right to lecture people over the breed of their dog. We all love dogs, so we should find the beauty in all dogs. :) |
I agree with the above post.....it seems yorkies are now a status symbol and they are NOT. They're our pets - people should keep their opinions to themselves when it comes to commenting with something hurtful or ignorant. My mom always used to say silence is golden - and she's right. Better to say something NICE than say anything at all. |
Perhaps we need to download the AKC standard and carry a copy in our purses for just such incidents? People who have big dogs want the BIGGEST of the breed. Those who have small dogs want the TINIEST of the breed. Go figure  Me? I just feel blessed that I have not *one*, but TWO marvelous Yorkies (one IN standard, and one OUT, although Puddie the Porker would probably be "in" if he lost a lb or 2! ;) ) I just don't understand the need for hostility. I've seen dogs that are *terrible* representatives of their breed, but so what? But I would **never** be so rude as to dis them. Someone loves them, and that's all that counts. |
That woman wasn't stupid she was rude, ignorant and didn't have a clue as to what the heck she was talking about. To talk that way to a stranger, in front of her young daughter no less, makes her a total a$$ also. Poor kid to live with a mother like that. What the heck would she have said if she saw Buddy:p That would have put her over the edge for sure. Sorry I wasn't there with you, we would have had ourselves a real good laugh on her. |

I'm growing tired of the in-depth commentary/analysis -- bad or good -- from people I encounter. If they must say something, why not just "cute dog" and move on? Many people have implied that I must be a snob to want Yorkies. I simply love terriers and the Yorkie happened to be the right size to suit my current lifestyle. I'm still shocked to learn how competitive people have become about pets. |
I'm with you! I can't stand stupid people, and probably would have been kicked out right along with you because I would have had to tell her too!!! What an idiot! |
Some people just really amaze me! I always believed you should research a breed before you buy one that way you know its temperment, what it prefers, common health problems for the breed and the expected size is always listed as well. This woman obviously doesn't know anything and should think twice before she opens her mouth in public again! I would've been kicked out too, how people act is just beyond words sometimes. Besides, I'd rather have a yorkie on the bigger side because I'd worry myself to death someone would hurt a yorkie that small, it would be too easy, hurting a yorkie 5+ lbs is easy enough! They are just fragile dogs, i cant believe she was swinging the dog around like that!!! |

Its not a game of "my yorkie is smaller than yours" its just about having healthy happy babies. I can't believe she even responded like that. under 4 lbs???? please. there just wouldn't be any pure yorkies if that was the standard. actually, the like grandfather of the breed was a pretty healthy boy, and was def over 7 lbs... |
[QUOTE=Lee B;3034212]Perhaps we need to download the AKC standard and carry a copy in our purses for just such incidents i like this idea but i am so hot headed i would forget its in there and yell at them anyway |

To the OP I would have had to look at Muffy and tell her shes just another uneducated person. Some people are just so unhappy with themself they have to try and make others feel less than they are. |
I think Gatsby is adorable. I just love his name, too.:) |
I had this arguement with somebody on another forum who was asking for advice about her impending litter from her 'miniature' yorkie. I pointed out there was no such thing, she argued she knew better as she used to breed 'toy' yorkies but now had a smaller one. I told her to go read the breed standard and come back and tell me where it gave any information about different catagories for size. She came back and said I didn't come on to hear about breed standards. I was going to suggest she join YT but figured that her kind of ingnorant dog owners wouldn't want to get told the same thing by so many informed people. |
