I agree, he IS a keeper.. he's adorable! She does have someone else interested, and will not hold him. So, all I can do now is hope that no one snatches him up before Saturday. She says she's been burnt too many times with people not showing up, so she won't hold. If I was closer and could give a deposit she would. Stupid distance.

I think my mind is make up. I am going to try and make this little baby mine. If people don't get it - TOUGH. Just zip it and live your life and let me live mine. I work hard for my money and if I wanna spent almost one whole paycheck on a dog, I WILL!

lol I knew what you meant!:D Go for it. He's a cutie.

LoL. That's soooo funny!!!

I agree. Its your business what you spend your money on. Your an adult. I'm sorry your mom is treating you as a child. He's soooo handsome!!

When I was contemplating bringing home another puppy I didnt tell anyone but my husband what he was going to cost. Its not anyone elses business and you have to decide for yourself if its worth spending. I am sure if my dad only knew what I spent he wouldnt be talking to me either. Good luck to you and keep us posted! I hope he finds his home with you!

LOL....I can relate...I be right there with ya sista...lol..my hubby would strangle me tooo...lol

He was with me when I picked up Bella and while he had come to terms with the price.....he was still leary, I am sure...if he knew what I paid for Shay, he would have a heart attack (after the strangling, of coarse..lol)

I totally know what you mean about controlling issues. My mom is the same way. She doesn't have a clue what I gave for my furbabies. Frankly, it is none of here business. If that is the furbaby you want go for it girl;)

yorkielover916 03-01-2010 08:01 PM

you are not crazy, I would have paid just as much for my puppy if I bought him... he's a cutie pie though... I say if she still has him by Satruday (wich I hope she does) then go for it... Good luck!

violet voon 03-01-2010 08:10 PM

Just bring him home...as you mentioned, you don't spend money on snowmobile, everyone has their own "love". Getting a puppy from puppymill might be cheaper but we can foresee the vet bills are coming! :D
Ask your brother to join YT! He might not want a snowmobile anymore hahaa! :p

By the way...when I brought Sugar home, I told my mum it was half the price, didn't tell her the truth...not until she fell for Sugar too!!

jenn1381 03-02-2010 04:03 AM

Thank you all for your responses! I am feeling better about it now. I pretty much HAD to tell my mom and dad the cost, as they are coming with me to get him if he's still available (it's a 4 hour drive one way)... and mom has a big mouth, so the whole family already knows.. BUT... I'm refusing to take any more BS from them. I work full time, pay my bills, just got signed on permanently to my DREAM job and this is my way to go gift to myself. I've worked my butt off for 2 years getting through school, and now paying off school. I deserve it. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I do gamble (haha) but funny enough in my family spending $300 in one night at a casino is ok, but spending $1100 on a dog that will love you for it's whole lifetime is not.. makes no sense.

If he is still available on Saturday, he is MINE. Only thing that would change that is if when we got there, him and Oliver fought like crazy. Can't see it as Oliver loves any and all dogs, and this dog is used to other males being around. We shall see.

I'm tentatively booking next week off work, and hoping it all works out! His name is Adonis, which apparently means god of love. Not sure if I'd keep the name or not, it sure is different!

Some of you are aware that I am on the hunt for my second Yorkie from other threads... well, I may have found him. He's 6.5 pounds at 6 months old, might get a bit bigger - if not, that's ok. His breeder is awesome, just got off the phone with her. She only breeds a few litters a week, once kept a female pup until she was 5 months old as she was too small to leave mom, knew all the conditions that Yorkie's have, does genetic testing before she breeds and has never had a liver shunt baby or a luxating patella. This dog is for sale for $1100, already discounted $1500. She is selling him because he has gotten too large to breed with her females.

My family has been all for me getting a 2nd dog, has helped me look, and come with me to look at possible new family members. Until I said I was going to get a Yorkie, full blood, reputable breeder, and that it would cost. Now that they know I am planning to spend $1100 they are freaking out. I am getting calls from my brother saying that "seems like too much, you're an idiot to spend $1100 on a DOG. It's just a dog!" He says I am getting ripped off. I was able to come to this site and prove to him that I am NOT and that most Yorkie's are in fact MORE, but he still doesn't get it. He searches the internet and finds them for $200-$300 and thinks that should be good. He doesn't understand the difference between a puppy mill and a breeder.

My mother won't even talk to me now, even though she was the one who WANTED me to do this from the first place. My dad is still ok, and is going to make the 4 hour each way trip with me on Sat. if I decide it's a go. I am SO tired of being called stupid for spending money the way I want to! Yes, I am willing to spend a grand on a well bred, well socialized, happy pure bred dog. I spent $350 for Oliver, and while he is the love of my life, he is hard work! Skittish, scared of men, untrusting, the list goes on and on. I said to my brother that people are different, I will spend a grand on a dog, but I would NOT have spent 3 grand on a snowmobile like he did. We all spend money on things we enjoy. A snowmobile will never love you like a Yorkie will.

Someone please tell me I am not insane. Someone please tell me they get it! Yes, it's a lot of $ when I should be spending it on things like a car, my loan, etc. But Oliver is miserable without another dog, and when I adopted him I made him a promise to do whatever it took to make him happy. This dog will make me happy, too!

The picture is of the little guy that I truly hope will soon be mine...

Sadly, I don't think a lot of people understand how expensive the Yorkie breed can be. Even if you pay a low cost to purchase a Yorkie, it will quite often cost you a lot of money in the long run! (vet bills, etc..)
I think people need to really understand it's not just the price to purchase a Yorkie, there are life long expenses that you need to factor in!
Best of luck with your decision!

He's a doll! I wouldn't worry what anyone else things, it's your money, spend it on whatever you like, and you couldn't ask for a better investment then a yorkie, you get pure love in return! :)

JenaNYC 03-02-2010 04:21 AM

Jenn, I am with you!!! I joined here to look for a yorkie to call my own. About 5 years ago I rescued one from the shelter, he's a doll and living with my parents who adore him. My mom is home ALL the time and he needs someone home with him. I did think about doing the shelter thing again but found a lovely woman on this forum with 2 little girls who need a forever home. It will be more expensive than a shelter dog but I feel it's the right price to pay for a healthy, well adjusted, loved dog.

On a whim I stopped in a pet store that had a cute yorkie in the window. He told me they start at $3200 but that one was $1800 because he was 4 months old. My heart tightened as I worry what happens if he reaches 5 or 6 and is not sold? It just breaks my heart to see them in the windows.

You have every right to spend your money on what you want. I like you thought about this and searched out the right way to spend my money. I haven't told anyone in my family what I will be paying since it is none of their business. I am sure it will come up and I will make up some lowball number since it doesn't matter.

I do hope he is there for you Saturday! Good Luck!!!!!!

misslissa 03-02-2010 05:17 AM

sweetie, it will make you happy so do it its easier to ask forgiveness the permission i live by this motto and just tell then its over a thousand now on a helthy dog or over 8 thousand next year when the $200 dog gets sick or hurt or has to have surgery really when you think of it that way its a no brainer

ARCHIE 03-02-2010 08:33 AM

I say go for it. You really don't have to answer to anyone, it's your money.
You did your homework, your comfortable with the breeder and could he
be any cuter? I don't think so. Once this little one is in your home everyone
will be fighting over who get's to hold it. Guaranteed.
I see nothing wrong with this amount of money for a healthy pup.
Enjoy and good luck.
