I just have to get this out!! 4 Attachment(s) I know that this is going to upset some people and I understand that we all have our own opinions.. I am not intending to offend or start a fight but I just get soooo mad about it and now it has built up to where I need to vent.. Last night before bed I read a post about AKC registration. How to this person it guarantees a purebred dog and that anyone using any other registry "screamed back yard breeder to me"..Well I left it alone and went to bed and woke up today just irritated as all get out about it..I started with 2 AKC dogs..When Stewie grew to be an ugly duckling, we neutered him..When I found my next male, Bentley, I had fallen in love and put my deposit not realizing he was CKC. My heart blocked any signals from my brain..lol.. His father is a Biewer and mother AKC yorkie.. The reason the breeder registered him CKC is honestly because it was cheaper than IBC. I paid her extra to register him with the IBC because I too was unsure of CKC and what others would think..But I was NEVER going to give breeding rights so I just let it go..Well anyone who has ever been to my home, knows that I love my dogs very much and they would run this house if Gracie weren't here(3 yr old skin kid). They are spoiled and loved and treated like family. I do everything a responsible breeder is supposed to do and more...I give a HUGE puppy package to include everything you need so you don't spend alot of money on a puppy and then have to take it to the pet store to buy all the supplies.. They have ALL shots but rabies, I offer free pet sitting for life..Free grooming for life..Free hair bows for life...I am available 24/7 by phone if new owners need anything. I am proud of myself and my happy, HEALTHY puppies..My guarantee is great, just read it..Then I hear these comments and criticism and can't help but feel bad about myself. I feel like people look down on me or my pups..Well now I want to point something out and would like to hear from the people who turn their nose up at CKC.. I am going to post some pics of some AKC dogs for sale..From a puppy mill none the less but still they are AKC so that is good right?? They are for sure purebred right?? That piece of paper is all I need to proudly say, I have an AKC yorkshire terrier... So for the people who believe CKC is bad.. Please look at these dogs..Then look at my website and tell me why are my dogs considered no good? Why is this person better than me because their dogs are AKC?? With 28 dogs for sale from this person, does AKC not go to his home!!! Do they not see that these dogs look terrible and very poor quality..Can AKC not say, we are taking away your AKC rights cause these dogs do not represent the breed well?? I just don't get it!! It makes me want to cry for my babies that I love so much.. Sorry, I am just so upset about this!! ALL opinions are welcome... |
I do believe that AKC is the best reg. However, just because a dog is AKC does not mean they are of standard. I have seen many AKC dogs that are not of standard. My Gracie is AKC and is beautiful, she looks just like a yorkie should, however she is 10lbs! Not standard! I feel your anger and agree with your point. Your dogs are no less just because of a piece of paper. |
Anyone who has pups can registar their litters AKC as long as the parents are resigtered that way. This means puppymills and back yard breeder's. It's is up to the future owner to be responsible enough to know where to go and purchase a quality dog. This meaning a responsible breeder, one who breeds for the well being of the breed. Then you get what you pay for. Even then, at times, things happen. AKC does not guarantee you getting a beautiful Yorkshire terrior within standards. It only means that dog is registared AKC. I don't breed so it would not matter to me what registary the dog had but I now know, how & where to go for a healthy pup and what questions to ask. I am sorry someone upset you regarding registaries. Buddy is EKCH from Europe and not within standard at all. Just because someone has an AKC Yorkie, IMO does not mean it's better than mine. I have seen some AKC pups who couldn't hold a candle to Buddy in looks, coat and health. Don't let it upset you. Education is the key and YT is a great source to educate ourselves. Words are words, don't let them get you down. |
Gatsby is AKC and he has major problems he cant keep weight on unless i feed him twice what he should get twice a day (i actually break it down to 4 times a day)he has allergies to everything from sedatives to grass (including vaccines) terrible dry skin that i have to use a gross smelling medicated shampoo from the vet to even put a dent in and if he even sees a flea he gets so anemic he has to have a transfusion dont get me wrong i love Gatsby and he is my baby. if next time i have the chance of a AKC dog with half his problems or a dog of any other registration with no problems i would take the healthy dog in a heartbeat |
I agree with the above. AKC does not "guarantee" a quality bred yorkie. Finding a reputable, trustworthy "breeder" guarantee's that you will get quality. I have seen many AKC registered yorkies that barely resemble a yorkie. CKC is looked upon negatively simply because they will register a dog based upon pictures and a witness statement. Therefore it is very easy to lie about a dog being purebred and obtain papers on one. If you know you are a good breeder and you know that you raise quality puppies, don't let comments on here get to you. Everyone has an opinion and when you post in a public forum you have to have thick skin sometimes. Just do what you know to be honest and be true to yourself and the breed. |
When I brought home my very fist puppy ever , a little yorkie who was going on 9weeks old. She is not pappered . And is a beautiful purebred. I have no regrets bringing her home. She is healthy , playful , and just gorgeous. Now, going on 2yrs old, she has not had any major health problems either. Nobody has ever thought of her as not being 100% yorkie either. Now, I brought home a Baby Shih tzu last yr that has AKC papers. All it was is papers telling me she is AKC, so that met to me that her parents were full bred . Well I thought that was great, however still have not turned in the AKC papers on her yet. She is now 10months old, and is bigger then my yorkie. She is gorgeous just like my Suzi , yorkie. I find that health and beauty is the most important. AND not buying from petstores or puppymills. I feed my 2 the best foods out there , and they are both lovely , beautiful little girls. I guess my point is just because you have a AKC paperwork does not mean much ... Sorry if i made people mad about that . I know my two girls are purebred and healthy. ANd this is what is most important to me. :) BTW< I think your little ones are very cute ! Good job on breeding such wonderful babies . |

They do have this option. I copy and pasted the below statement straight from the CKC website. 2.Dogs over 6 months of age which have no previous Registration history may be registered by providing 2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog along with 3 photos (front, left and right) of the dog to confirm it is ‘of proper breed type’ as defined by our current CKC Registration Rules and Regulations.Canine Registration Applications are available in PDF format from our web site. |
I know several people that obtained CKC papers using that very option. That I think is the main reason so many people disagree with CKC. That and the fact that they register mixed breeds and that BYB's and petstores then sell for big bucks as "designer" breeds. LOL Back in the day a "puggle" was just a plain old mutt, until CKC came along. |

2 Attachment(s) Amanda Id buy a puppy from you anyday!!! When I bought Muffy she didnt come with any papers at all and my Buddy was bought from someone on YT and he came with ckc papers that I never even sent in. I look at who and where my babies come from not some paper. Papers dont tell how the puppies have been taken care of. Dont these two look like they are Yorkies to you?? :D Spoiled little bratts!!! :p |
I'm sorry you were made to feel bad. Your yorkies are beautiful and you sound like a dream for the mom of a new puppy.:) |
I agree Amanda. Your yorkies are beautiful with or without AKC, CKC, or any other papers. I'd buy one from you in a heartbeat, although my husband would probably divorce me, lol! To be honest papers on a neutered or spayed pet aren't worth a dime, anyway. I have a cat and 2 rescue dogs that are just as smart and just as lovable as Diva is. All three are mixed breeds but we love them to death, regardless of pedigree. |

CKC papers came with mine. I have any info on the difference of AKC or CKC. But I have learned alot on here. Bella is a floppy eared yorkie, but since I have learned she is probably a silkie. I guess it doesn't matter as long as you love them and they are part of the family. She's a yorkie to me. |
i know some people might disagree with me but i think a dog is a dog is a dog.. we all have something on common here, we love a particular breed (yorkies). why does it matter what a piece of paper says? if you love you dog and take good care of your dog, nothing else matters. its a companion, not a show of wealth. |
Shelby is CKC and Maddy is AKC, but none that matters to us. I agree that having healthly pups that are loved to death is most important:) |
My Dudley came from a great line of breeders and papers (AKC).. Like mickey said, the paper aren't worth a dime if they are "fixed", what mattered to me was the homelife, parents and the breeder:D No particuliar order either:D TO THE OP....your pups are too cute! |
Amanda, I am so glad you got this out. I understand completely what you are saying. Poor little Stewie is AKC reg. and totally precious, but definitely not the prettiest yorkie. (I love you Stewie!!) And just like the other day when we were looking and I fell in love with that puppy. Yes it was AKC, and from the breeder's website, YES it was a puppymill. I have gotten a puppy from you and I have spent time in your home, and I know that you absolutely adore your dogs and they are spoiled rotten. Like some of the others have said. First and foremost should be the breeder and the care they give, not what they register with. And I for one, KNOW you are a wonderful breeder. (I really shouldn't have posted such a loving response after what you posted on my thread!! :tongue4: Still gotta love ya though. :D) |
I am sorry you have been made to feel this way, Amanda...{{hugs}} I have Shay, he is adorable and AKC...I have Bella whom is simply adorable too, she is CKC....do I love Shay more? NOPPERS I love em both equally the same...to tell the truth I am Gaga over them! But there is that stigma out there, when you say CKC and ppl go OOOO...like it is a disease... I am not showing my babies, or breeding them, they are my babies...I wanted Yorkies and thats what I have... Your babies are adorable!!!!!!!!!!! |

wow I am touched just reading your article I can tell you love your animals more than anything in the world and that equals a excellent breeder in my book |
As with people also, we can't all be show dogs! LOL! I too would not hesitate to buy a baby from you! Also, I feel like a healthy dog is what we all want in the end and just because a piece of paper says AKC,CKC or ABC does not a healthy pet make! Of course this a forum called YorkieTalk so I do understand the opinions of the hardcore yorkie yakers i think there is room for everyone who have love for these elegant little pets. Also not everyone can afford the creme de la creme! Give me a healthy sturdy fur ball any day! My Mabel came with AKC registration papers but I will not send them in...no point in it since she will be spayed. Don't let folks get you down! |
I would buy from you as well, you had me at 'guaratee' if you can stand behind what you say, it means you tried your best. Healthy and happy, that's what I would want. Plus the package...the cherry on top  |
WELL SAID AMANDA!!!!:thumbs up:thumbs up:thumbs up:bravo: Those 3 little letters (AKC) are NO guarantee or indication that their dog is in any way better, purer bred or truer to standard than yours are. My Callie is CKC and just exactly what I went looking for in a Yorkie. People who think they are getting less of a puppy when getting a CKC are really uneducated about what that really means. Your babies are beautiful!!!!!! I'm so glad you got that out in the open for all of us CKC's~:D!!!!!!!!!! |
Amanda I hear ya. I am afraid to tell people Jenna is ckc because I don't want to be looked down on. Mine are AKC except Jenna. Jenna is a beautiful yorkie and the queen of the house. She has the best personality of them all. My Dad bought her mom for me a few years ago. When she got killed the pups were little and I kept Jenna. Jenna is now going to have CKC puppies of her own in about 3 weeks. The male I used was AKC and all I had to do was send a copy of pedigree before they would register him. I do know people the register by photo. Sometimes I wish AKC wouldn't registered without a photo of the parents, pup and dna. I have had people want me to stud out my boy to their AKC dog and they look like mix breeds. I just tell them I don't do it. |
No one comes up to you and says "what a cute dog, is she AKC?" |
I think I'm in love with that sweet Mickey !!! All of your dogs are beautiful. Regarding the AKC vs CKC vs unregistered.......... I have Annie, who is AKC registered. She is my angel, had a 6 lb mom and a 4 lb daddy. I know the breeder, even met the 4 lb. grandma, but Annie grew to be 14 lbs at 5 years old. She is healthy, happy, loving and full of energy. I didn't intend to breed her (I would want to keep all the puppies), and I wouldn't trade her for any other "standard" Yorkie....so AKC doesn't mean all that much if someone just wants a dog with a great personality and temperment. I think the guidelines were intended to keep the breed pure and within standard, but sometimes nature goes outside the guidelines. I do feel that there is too much snobbery when it comes to whether a beautiful Yorkie is AKC or CKC or whatever, but I guess that's just human nature. |
Papers & Perspective Our 1st 2 Yorkies were AKC ... I did the whole registration thing. Roxy ended up being over 10 lbs, had pancreatitis (sp?), had to have two insulin shots per day, and died at a fairly young age ... while, by the way, DH was having a liver transplant. Daisy had auto-immune problems that caused horrible skin conditions that required constant antibiotics. She did not live to be that old either. She passed last Thanksgiving. For Christmas I decided it would be good for the mental health and well-being of myself and my husband to get new puppies. So, 2 days after Christmas I got Mojo (3 mo) and Bella (4-1/2 mo). They have CKC papers, but here's the deal: I doubt I'll even file them ... it's not what's important to us. The only important thing this time around is to have lots of fun and love, be consistent with the obedience and training to give them the ultimate security, and do what we have to with the health issues if/when they come up. Bella and Mojo have added so much love to our lives - we are once again, a happy and healthy family. We don't need no stinkin' papers. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
