If you feel comfortable with what you paid for your dog and you got exactly what you wanted, don't worry about what everyone else says or thinks. I only paid $500 for Mollie that's only because I got her from a very good friend of mine. I would have gladly paid more. |
I always justified it this way when convincing my husband to buy Pita- She should live at least 10 years, I paid 800.00 that's only 80.00 per year! Only 30 cents a day! For all of the joy and happiness she brings me that is a small amount of money. I have also have paid more for horses that eat more and I spend less time with! I guess pedigree and the area you live in will decide how much a pup is worth but my hubby always says "Something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it!" |
I only paid $450 for Haylee. But I got a huge discount because I used to take care of the breeders dad. She is not going to be a tiny one but I knew that going in. I fell in love with her Mom several years ago and fell in love with Haylee on site. But I would have paid whatever I had to to get her. |
I bought 2 female Yorkies about 15 years ago for $100.00 they were 3lbs & 4lbs. I never owned a dog in my life before the 2. I fell in love the minute I saw them. The guy told me that his children were not nice to the dogs and he had to get rid of them. It was the first time I ever saw a Yorkie, they are the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. My sister took the one that weighed 3 lbs and I took the one that weighed 4lbs. After 9 years went by she developed a tiny lump under her arm, I took her to the vet and he said that it was nothing. After a few months went by the lump seemed to have gotten bigger and it seemed to hurt her when I touched it, I took her back to the vet and he said they will operate, we scheduled the operation and after the operation my baby (Pebbles) lasted only 2 weeks. I cried like never before. She was the most devoted dog I have ever known. She waited for me to get home from work to pass I will never forget that look on her face when she took her last breath as if saying, "I am glad you are here." I did not think of getting another dog till 2 years ago. I went to Florida bought a house and said to myself I am definately missing something. I thought a dog! I searched throught the ads on the paper and found 1 breeder that had just one puppy left. I went to see the puppy, she was the cutest little teddy bear in the world. He had a home full of Yorkies, that were amazing. He sold me the puppy for $600.00 maybe he liked the way I played with all his dogs and he knew I was going to be a great mommy. But today Rosie is 2yrs old and she just had a litter of 2 three mths ago. I love her to death and I had to keep another. I also got a mixed terrier who is about 25lbs and he is absolutely wonderful. Do not listen to what people say I would have paid more for such a beautiful breed. Enjoy her and love her forever. Sorry for the long post. Dee Rosie, Nena & Rex say hello! |
Dee, What a wonderful post. I agree.... these dogs are certainly worth more than what they cost.... Sorry to hear about your loss, but glad to hear you got another. I lost my Mollie (wasn't with her when she passed) unexpectedly and I moped around here for months until I bought Dixie. Once you get used to having a Yorkie in your life, its just not the same without them. |
Mustangbee That is too funny.. I really couldn't help but cuckle aloud. i can just see that happeneing in my own life and the reaction I might get..that story is too cute! Quote:

As long as you're happy with what you got for your money I wouldn't worry about what other people think. The value of an item depends on how much you want it, and if you get what you want for the money you pay. It sounds like your happy with her, so don't worry about others. |

Yeah I hear the same thing all the time. people ask me how much one of those pups would cost. and then when I tell them they look at me like im crazy. |
This one is so subjective. Prices vary around the country. Overall I'd say you got a great deal for a "show" quality Yorkie. But what price do you put on a family member? Or happiness? The next time someone has something negative to say just give them your biggest grin and say "And she was WORTH every last penny!!!" Have fun loving that little furbaby. :p |
They're like antiques, if you see what you want and can pay for it, go for it. I paid $800 for Chloe and $2500 for Lacey, both are registered but Lacey is smaller with a champion daddy, but neither one is show quality. Who cares, I just wanted a loving pet, with a great personality that matched me. |

When people ask me "how much one of those dogs cost" my response is always -- they run about $1,200 a pound. |
First, if someone ASKS how much you paid, you can feel free to be as rude to them as they are to you. You do not owe them an answer. But, if you love her and are happy with her, you paid the perfect price for her..My friend has a Lab and she is always comparing the price of my Yorkies with her dog. I tell her that my dogs are organic, range fed filet mignon and Stormy is burger, But, we joke and we know it.. |
One thing people forget. It's your $! I look at it this way. If you want something bad enough you will pay what the price is. I have people tell me all the time I was stupid for the amount of $ I paid for my yorkies. Some people will not pay over a certain amount and some don't have a price limit. I guess what I am trying to say is this was your choice don't let anyone make you 2nd guess your self. |

I cried reading this! I am so happy you found your lil' fur-mate. |
I paid (well, am paying!) $1600 for Maggie..and I don't regret it at all! I hate when people ask how much I paid, do I ask you how much you paid for your breast implants? or how much you made this year ? haha |

I want to see pictures of all of the little ones! Shelby is huge by this thread's standards, 3 lbs. at 6 months. She likes knowing that she is a big dog after all :D |
Just tell 'em....$2000 was a steal....cause she's priceless ;) |
People need to get some perspective People easily pay $2000 for a stereo system, a wedding dress, a china cabinet, a set of drapes, a leather sofa, some landscaping, cosmetic surgery, a car accessory, a vacation -- you name it. And $2000 is very reasonable for some of the things I listed. Which of those things will love you back? Some of them won't even last as long as a Yorkie will live. You chose to spend your $2000 on a bundle of joy. I think you chose well. |
Forget what anyone tells you, what is important is that you are happy and you have a healthy baby! |

The question is how much is she worth to you? My pet yorkies couldn't be bought, no amount of money. :) |
i paid 750.00 for my lucky and would do it again in a heart beat. i will be honest and say hes bigger than what i set out for. hes 8 pounds at 6 months but i love him love him love him. people just like to have something to say. the other day i was in petco taking pictures and there was another yorkie there also around 9 pounds at 10 or 11 months. this lady behind us said you guys have some big yorkies is this a new breed of yorkies b/c ive never seen purebreds over 5 pounds. the other yorkie lady went out of her way to educate her on the weight range and how people breed for tinies to get lots of money. personally i wouldn't waist my air explaining to someone asking me a question in such a rude way.. i just looked at her 100 pound dog and said compared to your dog my boys a little runt and turned around to wait for my turn. but as far as price i have purses that i paid more for than my boy as a matter of fact i have a louis vuitton purse i paid a little over 1500 for that i bought to wear to a wedding and have not use it since(that was 2 years ago). its in its case in my closet along with a gucci, coach,db ect......i believe life is to short if you want something and you can afford it then get it and enjoy it.....dont let people make you question your decisions |

Something I learned from a sales job many-moon-ago, and you can use it in any situation.... If someone asks you a question that you don't want to answer, reply "Why, do you ask?" They will tell you, and it can save you from having to answer their question directly yet still be honest. (Okay-in my case it kept me from being rude and saying "None of your business!".) So they might answer that they were wanting a Yorkie and just wanted to know how much to spend. Then you can give them a really wide price range without actually telling them what you spent. If they persist after that, they deserve whatever rude answer you give! :p JMHO |
You can't put a price on unconditional love. On my little Rita adventure a day didn't go by that someone at the hotel wanted to buy one of my yorkies. I would look at the like they were crazy and say I had some human family member I would sell. |
