I paid 1k for mine. I think this is the price range. I wouldn't have paid more than that though. But thats just me and my own budget. You can definitely find good yorkies for under 2k but you got what you wanted so don't worry about what people say. I hate when strangers ask me that question. I think its VERY rude. I have started telling people "I don't know how much she was, she was a gift". But I don't know how people don't think its rude. My entire family who are not animal lovers and own no pets at all think I'm crazy for paying that much for an "animal" as they say but who cares. |
I know, I paid the $2,000. and didn't get the 'perfect dog' but I had met the breeder, been to her house 4 times, and felt good about it. Her legs are too long, her hair matts but she is just a little dolly. She is 6.5 months old and is 2.4 lbs. I DO love her. I had a yorkie for 15 years that we lost this summer so I know what wonderful companions they are. I paid $350. for her!! Yes, these little ones cost more but what are you going to do? I think it is too much money, the breeders know they can get away with it because we love our YT's and will do about anything to get one!! |
I only paid 1000 for Bia and shes pet quality. When I first got her and people asked me how much I paid I would tell them and they were taken back because they couldn't see themselves paying that much for a DOG! I think most people feel that way, they think It's just a DOG, they could go get one at the shelter for 50 bucks, thers no way they would spend even a fraction of that. 1000 bucks is a lot of money and I could have done a whole lot more with it than buy a dog is what was running through their heads I'm sure. Unless people are into the same thing as you are they aren't going to understand, and probably never will, but as long as you know thats all that matters. I think 2000 for a healthy show quality dog who is a little under the breed standard in weight is a good price. I think you did well!! |

I only paid $600.00 for Miko and people still think that's alot. Most people don't understand, unless they are dog lovers and are willing to pay whatever for what you want.! |
If you are happy then you didn't pay too much. One breeder I talked to said you either pay it up front or pay it later in vet bills. I thought that was a bit harsh, but I know what he was TRYING to say. Of course we paid $1700 for Bandit and he died a month later, so paying a lot does not guarantee a healthy pup. When people ask what you paid just smile and say "not anywhere NEAR what she's worth to me" that should shut them up. |
You got a beautiful, show quality pure-breed Yorkshire Terrier! No thaths not a lot, and you can tell your friends, she's not a dog, she is a member of your family. I did the same thing. Princess was $2500, I wasn't going to show her, I just fell in love with her little face, and had to have her. By the way, when I told my husband about her, he said no way. The next day when he called from his office to see what I was doing. I told him I was playing with Princess, my new puppy. That was over two years ago. Princess is now Daddy's little girl. Her price was high, but I had to have her. And I would do it again!~ :) |
If you are happy with the little one than you didn't pay too much . |
I too have paid as little as 800 and as much as 2500 for my Babies, It just depended on where and when and what I wanted. Now as to the rudeness of people asking how much I paid. I have found that only those that critize ask that question. What is it with judging everything in this world that we love by dollars? There are some thing you don't put a price tag on and puppy love is among them. I have a standard answer for anyone that asks that question who is not a yorkie owner. I simply smile , look them in the eye and ask "why do you want to know" They never have a answer, Then I add "Just like Mastercard, they are priceless" This usually ends the conversation. Helen, mama to Sophie, Sara, Fancy,Spencer and Jake and soon to be Eli |
This cracks me up,,, how people can be so rude and think its ok.. Maybe you should go around asking ,,,, How much was your car? How much did you pay for your house? You paid HOw much for this wedding? It all depends what your into,,, I myself think its crazy that people spend tens of thousands on a Wedding,,but HEY, if thats what ya want,,Go for it. But dont worry about what I spend my money on,,, Until you pay my bills,,,( which noone has offered to do!) Its none of their business! :D |
I paid $500 for Dixie and $700 for Daisha. Dixie had a hernia so the price was discounted. Neither are of show quality - but that is fine because I wanted them for pets only. I was not interested in breeding either. They DO have papers, but the are not important to me -- I know they are pure bred and they have well been worth the money. I agree it has alot to do with where you live. In my area, the normal price is $300-$900. I have not heard of any within this area being more than that. When you look at a dog, you can't tell how much a person paid for it.... I'd just say if you feel ok with paying $2000 for a dog - then its your business. Just be happy and love that little one like crazy!!! :) |
I paid $2200 for Lexi and $1400 for Tori and a little over a week ago we considering purchasing a pup $8500 with an open soft spot. I don't care what people think, I know what I want and what I can afford. I don't mind telling people here what I paid because we all have the same passion, however I don't tell friends and family. I don't feel it is any of their bussiness. |

Might be cheaper in different parts of the country??? but I think you did well! In California if you wanted that quality of dog you might have to get on a waiting list :) AND pay a little more. |
