has anyone bought a yorkie from another state and then have him air freighted to you?

Has anyone ever used Delta Dash?

I would be careful in doing this, if you can, speak with the breeder before you ship out, when I was a vet tech we had a few clients whom bought dogs online, got them shipped, and they were very, very sick....but good luck!

We are not getting the puppy from a breeder or anything. Quick background - the owner had a heart attack a few days after he got his yorkie. He is unable to keep the puppy. My sister in law, who lives in the same area, is going over to his house tonight to pick up the puppy. I am not worried at all about the health of my new baby, but the thoughts of him being on an airplane for 3 hours scares me to death! I am trying to arrange the best and safest way to get him home.

I have had a 45 lb tortoise shipped to me by Delta Dash. I had no problems at all. Never had a puppy shipped though. How old is the puppy? How much does he weigh?

We had a toy poodle brought via Continental from Oregon to New York.

She was none the worse for wear.

She was about 4 pounds or so.

You could also post an ad on craigslist in that area... sometimes you can find someone who is flying in to your area and you can give them a little something to bring the dog under their seat.

I don't know if I'd trust craigslist, but definitely ask around and see if anyone you know is making that flight. It's much safer if the pet is hand-carried in the cabin. If there's any local forums you belong to or can access, sometimes you can put out a note asking if anyone is traveling to the area.

The baby is 13 weeks, and weighs 1 lb. I am very fortunate that my sister in law lives near him and is going to pick him up. She is also taking him to her vet on Monday, before taking him to the airport. He is up to date on all his shots and well puppy exam.

PM me and I'll provide you a name of a person that transports them for you in cabin (fee is dependent on the distance between the 2 airports). You may have to wait a couple of weeks so that she can fit you in. But, she is experienced at doing this, travels with all her on supplies for these dogs.

Oh gosh, please don't fly a 16 oz. puppy by himself in cargo - he may not make it :(.

In another post (thread now removed), you said to the person who is giving up this yorkie (due to the gentleman's health problems) that you and your husband were driving up from Georgia to Arizona to pick this puppy up. Is that no longer an option?

Can someone in your family fly w/ him?

We really wanted to drive to Arizona, but due to DH job we can't make that happen. Believe me, I am so worried about flying him here, but right now I don't have any options.

OK, now I am freaking out.......Some are telling me that it will be OK, they have done it and some are saying NO! What to do? I think I have almost convinced my DH to let me fly out to get him. Say a prayer he will say OK....

I'm sure it's done often, but I think one thing we do know is that it is not nearly as safe as a cabin ride. IMO, it is much better to fly out there.

I've had a puppy shipped to me and had no problems. The flight was only about 2 hours though.

What is his current body condition? Since he was left alone without food for 2 days and almost no water - he may not be able to fly for a good while.

Does the SIL have him now? Has she seen him?

My sister in law is picking him up tomorrow. She is taking him to the vet on Monday. I was a little worried at first, but after talking with Forest on the phone I feel better about it.

We are using Pet Airways to bring him home. I feel much better about that than flying him Delta Dash.

The wait in horrible....it's like being 9 months pregnant and delivering him myself!!

I hope she is not going by herself. Tell her to bring Nutrical with her, this puppy could be in serious trouble, given he was without food for 2 days -- and given the rest of the details of this story.

I need you to know that the Mods and Admin are concerned about this situation, for various reasons. If this works out and a puppy is saved, then wonderful. However, when it comes to a "free puppy" - all parties involved should be very cautious.

I had a tortoise rescue at my home for 8 years. That was when I lived in Louisiana. I had to rehome all of them with members of my herp club when we moved to TN. It is too cold for tortoises here.

If it is, I strongly suggest that this pup travel in cabin with a qualified person that knows how to handle pups and any problems they may encounter.

Please don't let the excitement of getting a new pup get in the way of what is best for the pup.

Yes exactly! And we have not been able to confirm that this story (the person giving away this puppy) is real or not, though we've tried repeatedly. There are some things that don't add up.

If it is for real, no one means any disrespect to the person giving up the puppy or to the potential new owner. However, I wouldn't be posting this for no reason.

Please, just be careful - and if you are able to save this little puppy, *if* this is all for real, then wonderful.

The reason I PM'd you was because I thought maybe you lived close enough to check this out or to pick up the pup.

I do hope that it does check out and there is no scam going on. And if there is a pup, I hope all checks out for the welfare of the pup.

And if, vbayne, you want to use PetAirways, please do not fly this puppy until several weeks from now. PetAirways is an excellent option - but not for a puppy in this condition and at this age and weight.

I also offered a person that is used by very reputable breeders for transporting our new show dog puppies to new owners and females for breeding to breeders across the country
