Yorkiepoo breeder recommendations Hi, my bf and I are interested in buying a yorkiepoo, we are in the ny, nj area and are wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable breeder, we have found that a lot of these hybrid "breeders" are in fact puppy mills, any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
Welcome! It's good that you are doing your research. May I ask why you don't just look for a straight mini poodle or yorkie? The problem is that almost no good breeders will sell "designer" breeds, so you are almost guaranteed to get a yorkipoo from an unscrupulous breeder. |

Check Petfinder.com. Tons of Mixed breed dogs as well as pure bred. Craigslist also. IMO Mixed breed dogs should happen by accident. |
I've posted before that some mixed breeds make sense to me, like cockapoos, because pure cockers are so dumb. The cockapoos I've seen are really beautiful, and have poodle smarts. I don't really understand the yorkie-poo. Both have non-shed coats. The combo of the coats seems to tend towards the poodle, so curly and a tendency to matt. Both are smart. Both can be yappy. I may be missing something, but yeah, I'd either adopt a mix to give it a good home, or buy one or the other. |
Thanks for all the responses. I forgot to mention the reason I am looking for a Yorkie-poo is because my bf is allergic, but I really want a Yorkie so this seemed to be a good compromise. I had a feeling I would get a lot of negative feedback about mixed breeds, but any additional information would help. Thanks so much! |
Hi, Welcome to yorkietalk. I hope we don't come off too harsh. A lot of people on this site are involved with rescues and see the downside of a large dog population, uneducated owners and "evil" breeders. As such, a lot of people on here only advocate for breeding for particular reasons. Usually, breeding mixed breeds does fit in to strict breeding ethics (because of the already large dog population). It is easy to find a yorkiepoo on kijiji. However, I would urge you to be cautious in doing this. This doesn't mean not to use this meathod, but just do a lot of research so you know how to spot an unethica breeder. Please do not buy from a pet store. These dogs come from horrible places (puppy mills) and you are not rescuing them; just damning their parents to a life of filth and misery. Please try using "petfinder" it will show you awesome dogs in your area that are in shelters that need homes. Good luck, and please keep us updated on your progress! Kate |

Actually, I have good news for you - yorkies are about as hypo-allergenic as you can get! Just as good as a poodle, if not better. I know a lot of breeds get crossed with poodles because of the allergens, but it actually doesn't work all that frequently - usually you just get a fuzzy, allergy-triggering dog. |
My Max is a mix breed. He is a Morkie (half Maltese and half Yorkie). I needed a hypo-allergenic type of dog for my allergies. I love him so much and he has the best disposition. However, I would not get a mixed breed and pay the designer dog price again to a "puppy mill" breeder. I learned so much on Yorkie Talk. Max had so many issues right after I got him from the "breeder". He had ring worm all over his entire body (gave it to me, my DH and our 4 kids), he had a skin bacterial infection, ear mites, yeast ear infection, ...Took a year to get the ringworm under control. We have spent thousands on his health care. Max also has Stage 2 Luxating Patella (diagnosed at 1.5 years old). I am afraid of what might be next. He just turned 2 years old :( 6 months ago I bought a happy & healthy Yorkie from a breeder here on YT. I can not tell you how different this experience is. You didn't come off too harsh! I appreciate any information I can get. I've never owned a dog before and had NO idea how difficult it is to find a reputable breeder vs puppy mills/backyard breeders until very recently. I have been looking at petfinder/other rescue sites and haven't had too much luck so far. The more I hear from you guys I think maybe the best option is to stick a pure bred from a reliable breeder, even though it might be quite a process to find a good one in the area! |
Welcome to YT, Yorkies and silkies are hipoallergenic, my daughter suffers from bad allergies and asthma and she has no problem with my silkies and my yorkie pet. hugs, Carmen in nj |
