I don't have any advice, I am so sorry that you have a stressful night ahead of you. I can't help but think that if the vet said to wait it out, then its okay to do so and try to stay positive. My warmest wishes are with you. |
Even though I think those plastic sticks are pretty small, I would have to agree with everyone on here, and I know because I have been through a similar experience.. Not too long ago, I was pet-sitting a friend's shih-tzu, and he swallowed a shoe string- and that is all it took... The shoe string wrapped around his intestines and he had to have surgery to have it removed. He did fine, but if I wouldn't have trusted my instincts and taken him in to the E-Vet he wouldn't be here now. So please.. follow everyone's advice and take him in ASAP. |
Definately swallowed it whole (no chewing) it was quick. Right now he's begging my daughter for strawberry. Normal bad self. There is no second opinion. We have 1 vet. |
My thoughts based on similar experiences of friends: 1--It won't break down in the stomach. Plastic does not break down like that. 2--Making your pup try to throw it up could do more harm than good. 3--It is possible it will pass through his system BUT if not 4--surgery may be required. |

another thing you can try to protect intestines is pumpkin as it may work as well pushing it out faster and pumpkin is soft |

Omgosh I feel so bad for you, we have only 1 vet in my town too and it is horrible, I always worry about an emergency happening with my Bailey and not having proper services available. I hope this all turns out okay, good luck to you and your little guy! |

I am so sorry to hear about your baby...please keep us posted..I know they are quick when they do things...my shelby rae sits on my sewing table in her bed while I work and she had never done this before so i didn't think about it..I was embroidering something and turned around for a second and when i looked back she had pulled all the quilting pins one by one out of the pin cushion and spit them out all over the table...I saw one stuck to her chin and went into a panic...luckly she didn;t swallow any..but now I keep all my tools far from her...she has been sitting on my sewing table for 8 years then all of a sudden decided to do that go figure...I will be watching for news on your baby. |
I'm definitely not an expert but thought I'd share our experience. Darwin swallowed a chunk of plastic - we had no idea that he could actually break off a piece from the side of a plastic pop bottle. Looking at the bottle it looked like it would be a pretty jagged chunk. I called our vet (a town away from us) and was told also to keep an eye on things - I was also ready to give him something to get him to throw up but I read a bit on the internet and decided against it. Darwin never acted different either and after two days of panic and careful watching things were okay. I hope you have the same luck as we had. I totally understand not having a vet nearby. If you can get him into a vet I'm sure it would ease your mind. Good luck and please let us know how your little guy is doing. |
