Hey guys! All this info is great but I'm getting confused. I want Bo's ears to stand only because I think it's easier to keep them dried out after baths, etc. I like the look of the ears standing also but I won't love him any less if they don't. I also tried taping and they didn't stand and one looked wierd so I gave up for fear that I'd end up with a freak! Can we safely say that most Yorkie's ears will stand on their own but it may be as late a 6 months before they do? His ears are big and I understand that they may never stand. But I think I'll just let nature take its course. :aimeeyork - Bo? or :animal-sm _ Bo??? Doesn't matter, Mommy still loves him!! :heart to |
My yorkie is 8 weeks today and I still haven't picked him up yet! My breeder says I got the prize of the litter because he has a personality of his own. She shaved and she says they're standing up all on their own now, but sometimes when he lays down, one stands up and the other is floppy. She says that's the cutest thing to see! I can't wait to get him. :p I guess, maybe, it depends on the puppy? I'm not sure. The other two gals in the litter still have floppy ears but my lil' guy doesn't but they all came from the same litter. |
This is what I did with Bell, But First let me say that Bell does not have big ears. If you shave with a dog cliipers the first 1/2 of your puppies ears. From the point down. Then take some masking tape, put a piece in the front and the second piece in the back sticky parts together( make the tape twice as wide as the ear) Do the same thing to the second ear. and then tape both ears together across the head. Take it off every other day and redo. It should take between 3 and 5 days. If you continue to keep the ears shaved while thay are small pups, they will always stand after that. Hope it helps and if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask. |
Natalie - my little girl is 8 weeks also today - New Years Day baby! When are you getting him? My breeder told me she doesn't give up her puppies until they are 9 weeks old. I was hoping to get her by next week thursday, which would be 2 days shy of her being 9 wks old but the breeder wanted to wait so I won't be picking her up until March 11th. I was disappointed but l have to look at it as her being a good breeder and making sure my puppy is absolutely ready to leave. |
I'm interested in knowing if that works. Gracie's ears finally started coming up a few weeks ago and I was so excited! Then she got a cold...and they've been down ever since! I keep hoping now that she's finally starting to feel better that they will go back up. I see all these pictures of everybody's babies who are younger than she is (she's 16 weeks) with these perky ears and I get jealous!!!! |
If you don't want to tape the ears, then shave them. It will give the ears a better chance to stand up if there is nothing like the heaviness the the hair holding them down. |
How much to shave yorkies ears I have a 4 months male yorkie and his hear are still down. He has a lot of hair so I shaved about 1/3 down 2 weeks ago and his ears are still down. Sometime the left one seems a bit up and goes down again... Any suggestion. Thank you |
My Ruby's ears didn't go up all the way until she was like 8 months. I taped and shaved RELIGIOUSLY for MONTHS. I also shaved the WHOLE ear not justthe tips because i was desperate to get ANY weight off them. I was just wondering how old this pup was when you got her??? You said she is NOW 7 weeks . |

?? just a question.....how could you breeder confuse a male for a female? As far as the ears goes...I have heard everything that everyone on here is telling you....good luck! |

I might give it a try for Roxy so that the kids stop calling her Whiskers (the meerkat!) There is no hope for Ruby but I love her floppy ears. Fits her personality to a "T" |
