My first hate mail - AKC suspension list related As many of you know, I have been working on a list of AKC suspensions to replace the old list which is no longer available. Anyway, I knew that at some point I would be contacted by someone who was on the list. That happened for the first time today. I don't know whether to feel bad for this person or not. I know that it is certainly not deterring me from continuing on. I have posted the email below. Please do enjoy. :) Sarah, We have been in the business for 15 years. We have 2 (2) males that looked the same. We have passed AKC in spections with 100%, Our county inspections with 100% and we don't over breed, Our males do not run with females and yes my husband made a mistake. ( As I have explained to AKC, no one is god and I can't plenties him the rest of his life. I have never refuse to open books and to the best of our knowledge that dog was the father. Our dog are all DNA and we complied with their rules. Why you feel you need to play god and put this information to gether and ruin people reputations is beyond me. Oviouly you have nothing better to do with your life. After this it really makes us wonder is AKC and its people like you really out for the good of animals, I feel yes the pups had the wrong father did it make them a lesser dog or wanted pup. We also only breed on request bases. I'd like to know what gives you the right to put this out there so everyone see only your side. I like to know how many other had this happen and AKC need to get richer and receive fine money to keep going. I personaly think you should be ashame of your self and find out why and was there reasons. I will also be sending this to AKC. I think they should really think there policies over. This was inbracment enough, with out you publising this. I hope this makes you sleep better, god bless. Mrs Laurene Sabo, Vassar MI You can also publish this....... |
All I can say is, way to go girl! She's angry with you because you want to make a list of AKC suspended breeders? I'm really angry that the AKC doesn't have that list readily available and updated. The whole idea behind the AKC is that you have some assurance of a purebred, and she's upset that they suspended her because the pups had a different father, yet she wants you to feel guilty because after all, the pups still need love. Quote:
Thank you very much for doing this, as my beloved departed Father-in-law once said, You don't want all the people to like you, if they did, that would mean there something wrong with you, there's lots of evil people in the world." |
I know I make typos but sheesh - Sending a letter like that - you'd think one would use spellcheck Good luck with your list - the AKC SHOULD have an updated version - they make alot of money - how hard could that be to keep up with ? |

in case anyone was wondering, here is what I sent her back: Laurene, I am very sorry you have been hurt by being penalized by the AKC. The AKC is merely a dog registry. I am simply a person interested in making information available to the public. The AKC publishes all reprimands and suspensions in the monthly Gazette, which is available online on the Secretary pages of the AKC's website. All I have done is compiled that information, which is available online, and made it available in one place. I have plenty of things that I could do with my time, but I make time to update my copy of the suspension list in order to keep the public informed. If you feel your penalty was in error, that is something to discuss with the AKC board of directors, not me. |
Great response!! All you have done is compile the list that we could all find if we had the time. Keep up the good work. |

She's trying to turn this around and lay a guilt trip on you. Her comment that the pups had the wrong father, and asking if it made them lesser pups, really shows she's a BYB, or a Mill, etc. A reputable breeder would DNA the pups and possible Sires. Sure, accidental breedings can happen, but reputable breeders don't gloss over it. I make a lot of typo's if I'm typing on the run, but my goodness, her grammar! She can't "plenties" her husband for the rest of his life? "This was 'embracment' enough"? I'm sorry it isn't going to deter her from continuing. But, at least, a lot of people will be deterred from purchasing a puppy from her. |
Well, I'd just like to say Thank You for doing this.:thumbup: |
Holy Cow! It was bound to happen eventually that you'd receive a nasty gram from someone who wasnt happy to make the list. Will AKC give them the opportunity to rectify the situation to come off suspension? People make mistakes everyday, but its how they deal with them that counts. |

Sarah, it is people like you who make this world so much better. Do not listen to people who make mistakes and need someone to blame but themselves. Before YT, i had no idea where to find certain information on dogs. It's people like you that send us in the right direction and i just want to personally thank you! :) |

They should pay someone in-house and I guess I figured they did, that's a shame! |
Just got another email - the point of which (I think) is that she is speaking to an attorney about defamation of character and that she only owned the dog, didn't breed the dog, someone else did. I guess if she sues me, I will finally realize my lifelong dream of being on Judge Judy. LOL - And, just FYI to everyone - when you sign a litter registartion as owner of the Dam, you are stating that the information in the registration application is true. As owner of the Dam, you have a duty to know for sure who the bitch was bred to. If you aren't positive, perform DNA checks BEFORE registring the litter. Any resulting penalty by the AKC is your own fault if you don't fulfil your responsibility as owner. -oh, and, I will not change my list, even if a friend or even I were to be included in the list. I will remove a name if the AKC reverses the penalty, but I will not remove a name just because I don't want that person to be on the list. |

Thank you for keeping the public informed. If I was going to purchase a little puppy, I, too, would be very interested to know whether a breeder had ever been on the suspension list. I'm sure there are instances when a good breeder just makes an error of judgment, but most likely most on the list deserve to be there.:( Go for it! ~Joanne~ |
Does AKC know your doing this list? Are you affiliated with them? |
I would like to just share some thoughts. If a breeder who has been breeding for 15 years makes one mistake, gets a slap on the wrist, gets suspended for 6 months, but then did their six months, cant you update the list and say "no longer suspended"? I realize that you may not have time to update the list, but to me its kind of the responsibility you took on when you started with the list and making it available to the public. If your putting information out on the internet that is incorrect, you might end up facing more than just a threat of a lawsuit and with more than one person. Your obviously a very caring person to help those in the market find out how reputable their breeder is, but if you dont have time to update the list--how is AKC gonna deal with that when they get complaints from breeders who are no longer on suspension?? Just some thoughts. |
If she had nothing to hide or feel bad about she wouldn't get this upset. She should check her emails twice for spell check. I think you are doing a great thing Sarah and don't let people like this from letting you get the word out about them. |
I hope to God English isn't her first language. :shocked7q Kudos to you for keeping the list going. |

I think anyone looking for a puppy and really wants to do their homework and research, should have access to this information. Personally I wouldn't care if someone has been breeding 1 year or 30 years, if they have any type of violation, that to me is something that should be a record that someone can view when trying to determine who they want to buy a puppy from! JMO. |

And I agree there should be an updated list by the AKC so THANK YOU Sarah for doing this! and you gave her an excellent reply.:) |

Well, I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The AKC penalized her, not you. Like you said, you just put all the info that was already out there in one place If she feel she was wronged, then her issue should be with the AKC, not you. I applaud your efforts and your response to her. |

I agree with everyone else, and I think it is great that you are doing this. |
[QUOTE=red98vett;3002038]I know I make typos but sheesh - Sending a letter like that - you'd think one would use spellcheck Really, that is what spell check is for!! And I thought everyone know God should be capitalized. I make typos as well, but that makes you wonder if they have ever looked at a dictionary. Anyway, keep up the good work. We all appreciate it. Who cares if they suffer any "imbracment". |
I think less of a person based on over a dozen grammatical errors. I can't help it. If you're writing something important, spell check it for cripe's sake. |
I agree with the spell check thing, give me a break! Stuff like this drives me up the wall... and it's not just her spelling, it's her making up words and using them like they make sense! Anyway, thanks for posting this, very informative! |
Whats odd is this person is locally close to me! I have never heard of them before, but I am glad that if I was looking again that this list is here it is important to know ones history. Whats really odd is one of the people on the list is someone who I know a friend of mine bought a pup from, it was extremely awful. Thank you for compiling this information. |
