Ike has a bed time - Am i going crazy? My husband and I have been married for almost 3 years and Ike is our first puppy. We do not have children yet - therefore, Ike is and will always be the prince of the house. My friends are always making fun of me because I "do too much" for my "dog". Well, I do not care what they think, they do not have yorkies and they will never understand this crazy love I have for Ike. Anyway, Ike is a very loving puppy. He loves to cuddle and give us kisses. This week we finally figured out that he gets cranky close to his bed time. Is it possible? I have never heard of that. Since I am the one that does the morning routine he got used to my schedule - I wake up at 5 and go to bed around 9:30/10:00. On the weekends, when it is close to 10:00 Ike starts bitting and barking - which he never does. My husband and I started to realize that it just happened close to his bed time. All we need o say is "let's go nite nite" and Ike goes up the stair - to our room - jumps in our bed and lay in his pillow. Am I going crazy? I just think it is the most adorable thing ever. :animal-pa I can never share this with my friends - they would say I lost it completely :( |
hahahahaha my moms dogs are exactly the same way!!! |
No this is not crazy, and neither are you. I have 3 yorkies and I get up at 5:30 go to bed 9:30 -10:00. They stay in their doggie beds until I get up and at night I say lets go to bed. They each get in their bed, I cover them up and kiss them good night. On weekends if it gets too late they just go to bed and wait. They don't fuss about it. I have a 16 year old son I love, but they are my babies. Everyone I know thinks I am crazy the way me and my husband spoil them It is called PUPPY Love. This is the song I have on my profile page. |
I have 4 yorkies and they are on a schedule. They wake me up every morning at 6 am. I put them to bed every night at 9:30. I would say you are very normal!! |
I definitely say you are normal.... and if you aren't then consider yourself in good company - because I would be crazy too!! ;):D |
:D Kacee's bedtime is and has always been around 8:30. But I'm a mean mom and make her work all day, too.:p |
wow! thank you guys for the support on my "crazyness". By the way, he goes to bed on his pajamas. Do not tell anyone :):animal36 P.S. My husband hates the pj's and take them out in the middle of the night - I know, Ike has crazy parents :) and yes, we are bad parents for letting him sleeping with us ;) |
I use to have a Siberian Husky that use to get up from the couch everynite at 10pm and sit in front of the stairs wanting to go to bed. It was always 10 pm EXACTLY...my husband seemed to think when he heard the song at the beginning of the news he knew it was 10pm LoL Freaked the hek outta me! |
Rio has a bed time too! We go to bed at 9:30 during the weekdays because we work early (get up at 4:30a). But on the weekends, we tend to stay up later, and Rio will usually try to go to bed (she sleeps on our bed with us) expecting us to follow. When we don't go to bed with her, she'll come out and look at us as if to say, "Well, are you coming to bed or what?!" It's so cute! Sometimes we'll follow her orders and go to bed with her! Other times, we'll just stay in the living room and she'll come back out and snooze on the couch until we're all ready to go to bed. |
Ohhhhh...yes. My Joey gets VERY ornery when he's tired, and that's usually our cue that it's time to go in the kennel. He starts to growl or bark at any little thing, or nothing at all...little butt. Tank likes his kennel, so he just runs right into it, not even realizing that the bed is the place he's supposed to like, haha. Tank never really gets grumpy, but Joey does do that when he's tired. Oh, and I totally agree - most people think I'm nuts, but my boys are my only "children" (my husband and I haven't had kids yet either), and you kinda have to have them to understand :) |
My dogs definitely know when it's bedtime and remind me. lol. Hugs Shirl x x |
I certainly do not need any clocks in my house for dinnertime...at 5:00 pm sharp I had better have my fanny in the kitchen or the gang tells me exactly what they think... even if I am on the phone.. It really is amazing how they know the different time of day...and they do love their schedules... |
That is adorable and great for your peace of mind! :) Your friends are missing out on the wonderful qualities that come with having a Yorkie. |
Yorkies KNOW their schedules! They have a built in alarm clock! All three of our babies know within five minutes of breakfast, dinner, snack & bed time! Wrigley & Camden will sometimes stare us down if it's past their bedtime and they want us to go to bed! :D |

Not crazy at all! Mine go to bed at 10:00pm, I say bedtime and they all go to their beds, very cute!:D I know many people with kids who can't accomplish that!;) |
Awww that is so cute!! If you are crazy, so am I because Pixel also has a bedtime. During the week I'm in bed by 11:00 and if I stay up a little later to finish a movie or something - he will stare at me from in front of the bedroom door and will sometimes even start to whine. "Come on mommy, it's bedtime and I's tired" LOL He doesn't have access to my bedroom until bedtime, so he can't just go in there on his own and gets impatient waiting on me. He definitely knows what time it is and that it's bedtime! Even when my bedroom door is OPEN he doesn't go in there because he knows he's not allowed to, BUT when I say "night night time" he runs right into the bedroom - he totally knows what that means :) Funny though, he seems to somehow know when it's a weekend too because he'll go in his ex pen in his own bed on those nights until I'm ready to go, since I stay up until the wee hours on the weekend usually :D |
Gatsby dose this too we get up at nine every morning and go to bed at about midnight and when he gets tired he will walk up the stairs and bark to let me know it bedtime i put a baby gate up because i did not want him going up the stairs on his own so then he would jump up on the gate to get to the stairs to let me know it was bed time |
You're not crazy at all. Hot Rod usually is done about 9:30 - 10 pm. I used to and still do to a point, will turn down the lights and pull the pillow on me and say, night, night to hot rod and he jumps up onto the pillow with his lamb). Now I can say it and they go into the xpen too! If I don't do this, he will go and lay somewhere and go to sleep on his own. lol |
If you are crazy, then I must be too. Diva is my 4 year old yorkie and she has a very set schedule and gets very moody and grouchy is we stay up too much past her bed time. At exactly 9 each night, if we don't start getting ready for bed, Diva will walk to the room, get on the bed,------wait a few minutes-----get off the bed and come give us a very unhappy look. Then she'll repeat, except this time she will follow me around making sure I really see her. The third time, she whines. The fourth time she begins to bark and gets very unhappy with us. Once in bed, she gets comfortable and then you are not allowed to move at all, least you be reprimanded with a low grouchy little growl. LOL My youngest, Davinci, is much the same, except he is our alarm clock. Mnday thru Friday we are up at 6 am for work, and I rarely need to set a clock because he is awake and waking us with kisses at exactly 6 on the dot. Unfortunately he hasn't gotten the concept of sleeping late on weekends yet, lol. Yorkies are extremely intelligent dogs. I swear many times I think Diva is more human than dog. My mother in law agrees and tells everyone that Diva is NOT a dog, she's just a very small, very hairy human. LOL |
Not crazy at all. Maddie is 2 almost 3 and if the 'stare down' don't work, she will go on to bed without us.:D She also lets me know if I let her dinner time slip by. |
Too funny, i thought Sam was the only one :) I put him to bed around 9pm and when my alarm goes off at 5:45 in the morning he starts to cry until i come get him (my bathroom is his bedroom with a baby gate in the doorway) the funny thing is my alarm is on my phone and it's Randy Travis's Forever and Ever Amen....i sleep with music on all night long and he never makes a peep but as soon as he hears that long he starts crying. It's hilarious....my only problem is i need to remember to turn it off on the weekends lol ;) |
crazy, but great! Zippy sits on the stairs and yips every few minutes when it's bedtime. Has certain toys he wants to sleep with. If you disturb him when he is sleeping he will growl. Has a bed in every room, special drawer for his coats and sweaters, a special drawer for his treats and has more toys than walmart. He is also very vocal when he wants something. He will "talk" to us. Gets louder if we ignore him. I could go on and on. |
You are not crazy at all! I have been a house/pupsitter for a couple dozen familes for a few years now (I rarely sleep at my own house anymore!) and I can't tell you how many familes have "bedtimes" in their instruction sheets they leave while they are gone!! I would say 50% of my clients have bedtimes on their instruction sheets, though it's very clear when the other dogs need to go to bed. They'll let you know for sure!! |
SO happy to read this thread! We're becoming exhausted with out 16 week old Chloe. She's up in the middle of the night, every night to go potty, and I'm only hoping as she gets older she'll be able to hold it. From the sound of everyone's post, they do. I can't wait to be on some sort of schedule with her! Tell me it gets better....and when? |
You Aren't Crazy! Bella has a definite nightly routine. 7-8:00 p.m. cuddle and snuggle in her bed in the family room. At 8:00 p.m. she i ready to got to bed in her crate. We'll say "Night-night time, crate time and she'll wait for us to pick her up and take her to bed. If we don't she'll whine and tell us she's ready. It's funny, because I never knew dogs actually have a routine. |
