Worried--went to groomer today, not herself Hi all. I am worried about our Sunny. We took her to a groomer today for the first time since we got her in Novermber. They took a LOT of hair off--we seriously were not sure we had the right dog. I'm not happy about that. But the worrisome part is, she is acting very differently. Her personality is usually very bubbly, and now she is really lethargic and not herself. She's acting extremely tired, and she hopped off the chair and urinated, which she doesn't usually do (although we watch her closely all the time and keep her on a schedule. She just hasn't had an accident in a long time.) I put her on my lap, and she just kind of slumped with her head down into my arm. I have a call in to the vet, but just curious if anyone else has experienced this after grooming? She is acting so different. Could she just be traumatized? My daughter is actually afraid she had stroke. Pam |
I would get her checked out by your vet just to make sure she is ok. |
I'm not sure but she might just be tired with all the commotion. If you already check for any injuries let her rest and see if she springs up. You are sure she is your baby? Next time you might want to find a groomer that does house calls. Good luck and I hope she wasn't traumatize. |
I would definitely have the vet check her just as a precaution. I hate to say this, but that is why I do not take mine to the groomer, but do it myself. My older pups first experience was a nightmare and I have not gone back since. I just do not trust people. If your pup gets hurt, how are they going to tell you? To me it is like leaving your wallet with someone you just met! Would you do that? Yes, you can officially call me paranoid!:p I sure hope that she is ok and gets back to her normal self soon! Did you take her to a mom and pop groom shop? I fear what they do in those places without regulations or safety policies in place. One of my manager's has 3 Yorkies and the 4th passed after having a heart attack at the groomers (not us!) due to stress. Don't be so quick to blame the groomer. As sweet as we try to be to the dogs, it's just too stressful for some of them. If that was the case they should have called you to pick your baby up!! Hope everything goes well :( |
That is abit scary. Maybe put a call into your vet and let them know how she is acting and see if they think she should be looked at?? Could you call the groomers and ask if they sedate the dogs they groom or if anything out of the ordinary happened when she was being groomed there. Maybe they do sedate them and she is suffering the after effects?? I hope she will be just fine in no time. |

I dropped lola off at petco becuz a friend worked there.... and i talk to this girl she ask what i wanted done and i told her just trim her up a lil i want her hair to be long she saidok and told me she was just goin to clean her up then around her but and stuff like that. Well i came back to a bald baby i think i actually got a pic I was so angry and now i sit an wait at the groomers its a Portuguese lady and she lets me sit right there and talk to her i watch the whole thing and she just laughs and told me she would have shot the girl who cut her hair last if it was her dog |

We don't take dogs that are under sedation. It's dangerous! If a dog requires sedation for grooming, than it needs to go to a veterinary groomer. And sedation should only occur if the dog is aggressive or stresses to the point where it is unhealthy. Almost every dog is nervous at the groomers, that doesn't mean they need to be doped out. not at all thats one of the first thing i did when i got her was gave her a nice combing and then a bath then combed her again ryte after then i combed her everyday until we brought her there. My friends g.f that works there told me that they probably f'ed up really bad on her hair so they shaved her bottom half. I was so pissed i felt like choking the girl as shes telling me oh well there was some matting and then i said well if there was matting why was nothing said when i walked in and you started combing her out... i didnt get a straight answer for that one so i took my dog and walked out told them to shove the bill |
There is a grooming shop/pet store here (not the one I use) that gets their tranquilizers (the one named above) from a veterinarian. The doggies are kind of floppy when people bring them out. I wouldn't go near the place. |

First of all, sorry your baby is not feeling herself. Hopefully she'll be back to her playful self soon. I can't believe groomers would drug a pet w/out their owner's consent, that's just flat out wrong, it should be illegal if it's not. Busy gromming salons can be stressful for some pets. There's all this unfamiliar noise, locked up in a cage for hours, & other barking dogs. Mine are terrified of the high velocity dryer & will shake uncontrollably, I have to use a hand dryer. Have you thought of a mobile groomer? Some are willing to have you stay & watch, but it depends on your pet also. If he/she gets squirmy when mommy is there, it's best to leave him/her w/the groomer. |
