Waiting to hear an update. Just now saw your posting.
Hope problem is solved. If not, put some nutrical on her gums or karo syrup. Did groomer use a cage dryer? If so, could be suffering from burns. Hope you got hold of vet ASAP.

groomers

I know not all groomers are bad but those that are give the others a bad rep. I do know that some grug the dogs so they don't have to struggle with them. I agree that this should be illegal if it's not, they are not trained to know drug dosages and should not need them if they know what they are doing. I took Belle in to a small town groomer that even my vet recommended and I took a picture of what I wanted done. Belle is a Morkie but resembles her Maltese dad. I wanted nothing off the ears and nothing off her beautiful little tail feathers. What did I get? Ears clipped all the way back and her tail shaved:eek: I was so mad and Belle was not herself either. She was acting like she had been hit and was cowering at everything. I called my vet and told them about it and they said she must just be afraid. Belle has never coward from anything and has never been hit. I they would have drugged her, everyone in town would have heard me yelling. Now I trim her at home. I'm not trained but I did use to groom my Miniature Schnauzer so I'm trying with Belle. She is terrified of the electric trimmer so most is done with scissors. She may not be perfect, but at least I know she's safe. Hope your baby recovers quickly, if you find out they drugged her, I'd report it to vets in town. They probably won't admit it though. Let us know how she's doing.

I hope your baby feels better soon.

Sandy is groomed by our breeder who also provides grooming services. We trust her because she is professional and has more than 12 years of experience with Yorkies. We watched and talked to her when she was grooming Sandy. I don't know how she did it but Sandy was so calm and let her do anything!

Update on Sunny

I really appreciate all of the replies. I am still pretty worried. I called our vet last night. He had me check some vital signs (her gums, pee, etc.) and then he called me again this morning to see how she is doing. She is still not herself. She usually jumps and acts so happy when she wakes up in the morning and sees me, but today she just slowly got up and greeted me. She does seem slightly more herself though. Our vet (love him!) wants to see her if she doesn't improve more today. He thinks that maybe she is just completely worn out from the experience, but he wants to be sure. I feel so bad about this. I shopped and shopped for a groomer, and this one was highly recommended. There is a kennel there too, though, and lots of dogs barking. She was a puppymill rescue, so the stress may have been too much for her. I just hope she is physically ok! I think I will only have a groomer come to our house from now on. I just wish I had done that this time!! (Plus, she is so bald now! And seems cold!)

P.S. to Update

I forgot to answer some of the questions you all had---- The sedation---I called the groomer, and they said they did not sedate her (I'm hoping that's true!) Also, they say they use exceptionally quiet dryers (can't remember what they called them.) They also told me that she was an angel, and the groomer, who has done lots of yorkies, said she was the best yorkie she had ever done! (Sunny is a sweetheart. She was probably also frozen with terror!)
I still feel so guilty! I think the groomer is probably a good one, but I am not going to risk taking her to a groomer again.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I will never take my babies to a groomer again. The last time Coco was at a groomer they chopped off part of his ear. the skin part. Now he has a chunk missing from his ear. I bought clippers and now I just do them myself. Not only is it cheaper, I can be assured they won't be hurt.

Hope your baby is back to herself in no time!!

I'm sorry Sunny is feeling better soon. I groom my own dogs - I wish I could find someone who I trusted to do it for me. I've become a hack groomer over the years. I've got the grooming station, the waterproof apron, a bunch of grooming tools and a whole selection of products. Unfortunately, owning "the stuff" hasn't improved my skills any LOL

As for Sunny's mental state - if you think she's physically up for it, take her for a little walk or play an interactive game with her and give her some high value reward treats (tidbits of chicken, or whatever she loves the most). That usually puts the spring back in the steps of my guys. They seem to just "get over" their moods if they think chicken is involved.

Hope Sunny is back to herself soon!

Yea my girlfriend is a hairstylist and got her cosmo lic. So I was considering having her cut her at home but she said shes scared because she doesn't want lola to look like a hack job and has no exp cutting yorkie hair:rolleyes: (i think shes scared she might cut her or something )But after lola gets groomed one more time in march i believe were gonna start cutting it at home by then it should be nice and long and she can follow what the groomer did

2girls 02-09-2010 09:10 AM

My first groomer experience with my yorkie was awful at the time Lola was 9 months and 4.5lbs. Naturally she was so excited when I picked her she appeared happy and safe with a really bad hair cut, I mean awful! When we arrived home she was not her self. I wanted to make her comfortable so I removed her top knot and found a large bruised bumb. I was so angery! I called the groomer and asked if anything had happend and she said "I think she may have hit her had on the cage...but that's it". If I were to guess what happend, I would say she fell off the grooming table on to her head. Thank God she was okay. Today, before I leave the groomer I always ask if there were any problems I need to know about.
Hope your baby is feeling like herself real soon.

Groomers

When I had my first Yorkie about 12 years ago her first grooming experience
ended up in a disaster. She also acted funny and his under the bed.
By the next morning one of her eyes swelled up. We took her to the vet
and her eye was damaged.
