Random question(s) Ok, so I am just wondering how different some laws are in some places. I am from Virginia, as you can see over yonder <-- Here we are not "allowed" to bring our furbutts inside wal mart unless the a service dogs. I take offence to that. Who says my dog won't be of service to me while I am in there???? I know it probably sounds silly, but I wanted to know if it was allowed where you all live and if you just take them in anyways? I have heard of people taking their dogs in; in baby strollers, which I have gave GRAND thought too, I must say. I asked the Mall Manager where I live what would make it "okay" for me to bring ZZ in. She said if I could get her to stay in a stroller or buy a "dog stroller" which I have but ZZ hates, I could come in no problem. As long as the dog is not where it can bite or..whatever someone. ZZ not being child friendly I have already learned the snatch and hold technique. It's a gift I swear. Anyways, back to the topic. Any Ideas? Suggestions? Comments?? Or am I the only crazy person who wants to take their (K-9 American) grocery shopping? |
too funny!! I have been searching the internet for carriers that look like purses that i can hide billie in so she can go absolutely everywhere with me. i have narrowed it down to a knock off juicy pet carrier...it may pass for a purse...I am saving for my next furbaby which means my poor billie will have to settle for a replica (shhhh don't anyone tell her that!) the only stores i can openly bring her into in our town are pet stores. |
I figured someone would atleast get a chuckle out of me either way! It is so annoying, I don't understand why a dog that is utd on shots (I always have proof) cannot come into a store with me! She will never be out enough for people to see her. I hate people touching my dog, not to sound mean or selfish. I just know that they have germs on their hands. LOL. I won't tell her that it's a knock off. Although ZZ has a real LV (doggie bag) that I hate and I would really like to get rid of, but haven't found time to do so. (do not buy those the part you put on your shoulder is freakishly uncomfortable) So knock off's are better anyways! |
Well over here in CA, there are lots of places that are doggy friendly, BUT they are open air shopping malls, or FANCY SCHMANCY indoor shopping malls. For example, any one in the OC will know what I mean. They don't allow dogs in the Brea mall (middle class mall, but on the fancy side), but they allow them at South coast plaza (upper middle class mall with Gucci, LV, Dior, you get the idea), even though any indoor establishment should not allow dogs unless they are service animals. Any place that has food also does not allow dogs. BUT if your dog is very quiet (mine is not) you can get a kwigy bo bag (looks like a purse) and bring them anywhere. In CA everyone carries HUGE bags, so no second looks if you have a huge bag that happens to be a dog bag. I used to take Uni to the grocery store in a bag, and people/employees would ask me if they could see her! They loved her! It just depends on the place. Oh also Home depot says no dog on their doors, but I took Uni in the garden dept before too, no one said anything. Another member here (I forget who) said they brought their pup in the design consultation area too, so just depends. |
When you put her in your bag, just put the bag in the Walmart buggy outside in the parking lot and then put your sweater over the bag and then no one will ever know the difference. It works. Have a Great evening! |
That is so awesome!! I take ZZ in Lowes. What in the creation could she bother in there??! Nails?! Everyone wants to pet her and blah blah but yeah. I never let them rub her or anything. I am always scared she will snap on them like she does with kids.. Hmm. She takes after me in so many ways. LOL. AND I dont want them to steal her from me. Another reason I want to take her in where I can EYEBALL her. I dont want anyone busting the winders out of my car trying to take more than likely snapping vicious dog (Yes she works part time as a security guard!) Don't judge me! LOL. (I drive a Corvette by the way, winders are expensive!!) Anyways, I think I am going to buy one of those bags! Just chuck her over in the basket and roll her along. && I am so glad I can say I know someone from CA. Wish I could move in, I would love it there! |
Hey one time when we were leaving Home Depot with Uni, there was an older gentleman with his CAT in the seat of the cart, ya know, where you put your kids? LOL. Who takes their cats to Home Depot??? That must have been one cool cat. |
If my cats were "chill" enough and not savages I am sure I would try to take atleast one of them! I do have one that likes water and riding. Two things that are usually a nemesis to a cat. Weird creep. LOL. |
I did have a kitty once that was cool with being on a harness. When I took him to the vet he was like a little doggie. I even took him in the car with me. At the time I had stuffed animals on the back dash of my car, and he would hang out back there while i was in the store (don't freak, it'd be like a min or two). Once a lady walked by just as I was getting back in my car and she saw him move, and she was like "OMG I thought that was a stuffed cat!" Another time, when I took him to the vet, he was cool, hanging out with the other medium sized dogs, then an Akita walked by (who btw didn't even see him) and he FREAKED OUT! That was funny and scary. I got the scars to prove that one. |
I once covered an entire outlet mall with Sophie in an open top bag/carrier. She was welcome in every store except the ones that served food. That was in Destin and I refused to leave her in the camper alone for a long period of time. I know the Walmart and Target here (Tallahassee) as well as the grocery stores won't let them in unless they are service dogs. |
Haha!!!! That is awesome (except about the scars) My cats MUST be crated around dogs. We have a HUGE HUGE HUGE dog and they roughneck play with him and they dont know that other..Massive dogs DO NOT want to play with them and their claws! lol!!! |

I have made it through Wal Mart alive one time! Then a lady said "she is not allowed here" My mom told me to start having a seizure or flop around or something and show that ZZ WILL do something about it. And she will! She'll bark her head off trying to get attention if something is not right with me. I just dont have the papers saying "I am legit, bug off" |
well one time also I walked the Fashion show mall in Vegas for hours with Uni in a Coach carrier and no one was the wiser. Once I talked to someone about yorkies (an associate at Saks(?) I told them she was in there. She said Oh I have a Carin Terrier! :) |
Bah haha! I have met plenty of people like myself. I was in our Target MAYBE two weeks ago and there was a lady in there, decked out stroller, car seat, diaper bag the whole 9 yards and then she turned around to her friend and said check on Chico. It was a Maltese!! LOL I have seriously thought about doing what she did, no one knew but me and I gave her Kudo's for taking my idea! LOL I have taken ZZ in; in her carseat where all you can see is her HAIR and all the old people (no offence what so ever) say "HOW PRECIOUS, that is the cutest baby I have ever seen) like that are programmed to say that! lol I am going to bed for the evening it's 2:30 a.m here!! I will catch up with everyone tomorrow! Sleeptight. Hugs and kisses from me and Z. |
Here in Texas (Especially in the big 3 cities of Houston, Dallas, Austin) I have seen women with Yorkies shopping everywhere! In the grocery stores riding open in the kids section of the grocery cart (of course sitting on a blanket in an upscale neighborhood) where no one dares to say anything about it... in grocery stores of regular neighborhoods peeping out of carrier bags... in restaurants (we have alot of patios)... in Dr's offices (peeping out of their mommy's purses... in the shoe or cosmetic departments of major stores... in strollers at malls... even walking around like the people at the outdoor malls. IMO a Yorkie is the PERFECT companion to shop, travel and enjoy your life with. |
For the most part, establishments here will not allow them unless they are service animals. (I know that Wal-Mart and the POs here all have signs up about it.) I have seen people in the garden center of Lowes and Home Depot with dogs...even big dogs. I did hear a mgr ask someone to leave once, but have seen dogs back there again since then.) There are some places that will let you have them on leashes and eat outside. (Moe's, Starbucks) At the 'open' malls. Other than that, they are pretty much not allowed, which I actually completely agree with. I love my dogs, more than some family members, but fact is, they are dogs, not humans. I am of the opinion that if they are not allowed somewhere, suck it up, deal with it and don't take them and don't try to sneak them in. (And especially don't try to pass them off as service animals if they really aren't.) I think that in these situations, 'a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch'. Yes, maybe OUR Yorkies are cute and well behaved and UTD and clean, and potty trained but that's not the case for everydog out there and there's no way to draw a line there. From the establishement's standpoint, I can completely understand why they would prohibit it. The number of people who would want to take their dogs out to eat, or to Wal-Mart, per say, is likely very low in comparison to those who don't. For liability reasons alone, I can understand them being prohibited. |
I used to be able to smuggle Zeus into the grocery store when he was baby and didn't bark. As he got a little bigger he would stand in his bag and look out the top and a manager saw him and asked me to leave. Now he is way to noisy to even attempt it. |

Totally agree. I love taking Jackson as many places as he can go but I would never try to sneak him in somewhere (even if he was tiny!) somewhere that he's not allowed. You've gotta remember that some people in the world are NOT dog people like us and may not appreciate it. I also think it's not entirely fair to tell a person with a 100lb German Shepherd, for example, that their dog is less welcome than my 12lb Yorkie. |
I love the baby stroller idea! I live in CT and have found most stores that don't sell food will allow me to carry her through the stores and the mall. I have found the upscale malls to be more pet friendly like another YT stated. I took Lia to the Boca Town center in Florida and she was welcomed everywhere which I loved and security did not seem to mind that I was walking her on a leash through the mall. I have carrier called a "pet pouch" that you can hang across your body like a purse, and the interior is like fleece, it's cool. Key West FL is all pet friendly and pets are allowed in the restaurants before 6pm. We have a few restaurants in my home town that allow the girls in the outdoor seating-love that! I'm seriously considering buying a baby stroller. I'm taking the girls to Boston MA for the weekend in February and I think a stroller would be very handy for the girls. That lady is a genious! |

I found a stroller today! It is pink and just gorgeous. http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/04...17_215X215.jpg Thats one I want the other is at Babies R Us. So tute! Glad someone agree's. My uncle takes his Mastiff into Target where he lives and they allow it. So therefore, someone has to allow it? And why not?? If they are well behaved, there is no reason. If you are one to leave your dog at home or in the car, so be it. Who am I to judge you? Thanks for the opinions. |

About a month ago, I noticed the sign at the front door that indicates no pets other than service animals are allowed. Oooops! I still take him with me. |

I don't think ANY one in this thread stated they leave their dogs in the car or enjoy leaving them at home? I would never in a million years leave Jackson in a car but it's not out-of-the-norm to leave your dog at home sometimes either. I would think about 99% of dog owners leave their dog at home when they go most places. I'm lucky that Jackson gets to be with me a lot, I couldn't stand leaving him home alone all the time. |
Mmmk. Everyone has opinions. Maybe two were different. I NEVER SAID anyone liked leaving their dog at home. I don't leave ZZ anywhere unless I absolutely have to. Which is rare. She even goes to work with me and chills under the desk with the other doggies that get the priviledge to do that. Have a great day. |

I didn't. I have no idea where you got that from. I am probably the most chillaxed people on here. I know people leave their pets at home, and I think you did take that the wrong way. Sorry for the misunderstanding!:animal-pa |
We got kicked out of a Walmart in GA. We have a bag now, so I'm fixing to sneak him back in some time. We did a test run at Hibbett Sports (called first for manager ok). It didn't go well, since Frisco got all antsy so I closed the zipper on him for the first time and then he was miserable. Should never have showed him all the balls they have there. |
