Discrimination at Flea Markets!!! :thumbdown OMG.. this past Sunday, okay yesterday I went to the flea market with my mom and hubby and sista anyhow since we work a 8-5 schedule Mon- Fri (I come home for lunch ) I get only to spend little time with Gizmo, well except when he comes to work with me.. Anyhow we try to do things on the weekend that includes him... so we decided to go to the flea market and the first one that we went to , they personally came to the door to tell me that my little pup was not allowed!! I was FURIOUS!!! I told the man,"how silly is that, you let unsanitary people sell dogs here , and I can't bring MY pup in that is fully checked and vaccinated , and is MUCH MUCH more valuable than those mutts in their!!(okay, I was a little mad, ).... he said no so I said," well then we will go elsewhere because if he doesn't come in, neither do I!" So we left went somewhere else and since I was already mad evertime people would say, oohhhh he's soooo cute!! What is he a chihuahua or a poodle!!" OMG ..... let's leave the rest to the imagination huh! Some people!! P.S- Gizmo was cleaner than most people's actual kids in their! (Hope this didn't offend anyone, just had to vent!!) |
I am sorry that hapened to you. Not all places are dog firendly. I dont see why it would have hurt to let him in though. |
I had the same experience last year. I'm from Texas too! I'm not sure if all flea markets have the same policy but I went to the flea market on 290(?) and we refused to go anyway because there's no way I'm leaving my baby home for that! :D |
I know I would have been upset. Did they give you a reason???? :( |
Seems like they would have let you take Gizmo in there especially if there were other dogs in there...did they just say 'NO" or did they give you a reason? |
Some people don't have much business sense. Last weekend we took Susan into a fancy antique store. The owner said it was fine as long as I carried her. That's a woman who understands her clientel -- lots of retired people on vacation and passing through with their motorhomes and small dogs. I can't believe a flea market thinks it's hoity-toitier than an actual antique store! I'm sure not all flea markets have this policy. We take Susie to flea markets and garage sales all the time. But not if they're indoor sales; we wouldn't take her into someone's home without permission. |
In Illinois we never had any trouble taking Boog everywhere with us...even auctioneers knew him by name and would say 'I have Boog's bid over here'. Now that we're in Florida I see lots of people taking their dogs into the flea markets and even stores...the signs at the flea markets say 'no pets' but they're everywhere in bags, strollers and front carriers. When we had our accident a couple years ago my husband and I were transported in seperate ambulances and I refused to leave without Boog so they took him with me and even checked him out for us :D I thought that was pretty great of them. We're getting ready to head to Nashville to the big flea market at the fair grounds...does anyone know if they allow pets inside? |
That doesn't make sense that they can sell dogs in there but you can't bring one.. |
I am sorry that hapened to you. Not all places are dog firendly. We went to our family reuion and the same thing happened to us. |
Well, here in CA, at least in our area, there is almost no place you CAN bring your dog, Yorkie or otherwise. The only places I know of that you can are Petco and PetsMart. And believe me we all take advantage of that! Every time you go into either store nearly all the shoppers have their furkids with them! It is so nice to go and see other people with their pets. (Takes you a long time to shop, you have to keep stopping and talking to other pet lovers!!!) |
That man told you "no" because he knew that if you were there with your cute little dog, that the little grungy dogs wouldn't get as much attention. I've heard of people sneaking their dogs into restaurants...I am too scared to try that tho...has anyone else? |

That happened to me about a month ago, I went to the flea market with my son and his dad, and I took bia in her little purse, well one of the guards stopped me and told me I couldn't bring her in. I said "why not she is in a purse, and I'm not going to let her roam free." So he said I could talk to his manager, well 10 mins later his manager came to me and saw Bia in her purse, and said " oh how cute, I didn't see anything" I thought that was nice of him seeing as I drove an hour to get there, and it would have been such a waste. I don't know if I will be that lucky again, so I think if I do bring her next time I will hide her in my sons stroller in the bottom basket, until the coast is clear. I never thought it would be prohibited to bring in your dogs, especially ones that are so teeny tiny, into a flea market. I guess they don't want any lawsuits. I never try any other stores just because I know I don't want to get stopped, so I usually just take her to the petsmart and petcos around. |
