Pet odor and carpet stains Hi I don't know if there was a thread like this before but i need son urgent advise. My Yorkie is 80% potty trained and sometimes still has a accident and go on the carpet. I tried products from the vet which is suppose to neutralize the smell but it does'nt seem to work to good. I need some advise on how to get rid of the smell and manage to get my baby not to go there again. If anyone has some advise please all is welcome. I need as much advise and info as possible. Please help ! ! ! Thank you :) |
Spot cleaning is good but you also need to steam clean also. I got mine at Walmart but you can rent steam cleaners too. |
Vinegar helps to neutralise the urine. That's what our breeder suggested. |

vinegar So i tried the vinegar this weekend and must say wow that did work. I think i will do it one more time. It is not really necessary because the one time was sufficient enough. I'll recommend this to anyone from now on. Thank you for the great remedy. |
Another trick that I use is Baking Soda. Right when they have had their accident, pour about 1 cup on the spot and it will leach the urine out while neutralizing the uric acid in the carpet. Of course then you have to steam clean the spot, but it does get the smell out asap. |

I also do the baking soda and vinegar. As soon as Reesie has an accident I pour baking soda on the spot. I pour enough to soak up the urine and then I pour a little bit more. A cup is a good starting point though. I let that sit for about 15 min or so and then take a broom and sweep it into a dust pan. Then I pour vinegar on the spot and let that sit for about 15 min and then get a towel to soak up the vinegar. It works every time and I have no urine smell. Cheap and effective! :) |
When Rosie has an accident I soak up all the pee with kitchen roll untill the carpet feels dry, then use fabric softener over the area. Some-one told my sister this trick and she passed it onto me. |
It's impossible to get the scent out of the carpet because it's down in the carpet pad. Best thing to do is not to let her on the carpet at all unless your right there on the floor with her to catch her if she even tries. If a puppy has peed on any carpet even one time, that's all it takes to continue a life long bad habit. |
I love Natures Miracle, it contains enzymes, which are really good bacteria that "eat" the proteins in urine an feces. Many products including viniger and baking soda will neutralize the odor to a human nose, but a dog's sense of smell is 1000 times more powerful than a humans sense of smell, and if a dog can smell any urine, he will be compelled to return to the spot and mark it again. That why pee pads work, they are treated with a slight urine smell that humans don't detect, but a dog does. There are numerous products that say they contain enzymes, but Natures Miracle is the best I that used for eliminating any stain as well. |

I have to say on the spots that I've used the baking soda and vinegar on Reesie has never returned to them. The vinegar does a good job to neutralize the urine. |
