Yep that sure was me who said that... I think I said that if she really was getting that much for a dog i would eat poop..

But I suppose there are some rich fools who are willing to pay that much, especially in FL.. So they can go eat poo..crazy fools.. Man, what I could do with 15k right now...And i can assure you it would not be me buying a dog for 15k:D

Here on YT we generally try to promote responisble ownership, ethical breeding practices, and ethical treatment of yorkie puppies and the parents who produce these puppies. Because an ethical breeder is very particular about which dogs they breed and even more careful about where they place those puppies there is no way a good breeder would broker there puppies or sell them to anyone so they could be marked up and resold for more money. No bashing just facts:)

What is even sadder is that places like this take advantage of the unsuspecting and uneducated consumer by making them feel like they are getting something "special". LOL there is nothing special about these puppies. At least the person who spent $10,000 on the dog will be able to afford all of the medical problems that usually comes with people that breed mindlessly for money.

And probably think the pup will stay 1.5 pounds and then when it grows to be 10 pounds toss it aside.

I know a breeder who has a 5 year old yorkie who weighs 1.5 pounds.. But this pup had a hard start and she fought to keep her alive, force fed her for a year!! One determined lady. And that dog is fine now, healthy so far. But that is VERY rare, and of course she wasn't going to sell her to anyone.

And also, that lady helped me to save my yorkies life, Pennie...

Hi Ohashfo! Welcome to YorkieTalk!

I'm sorry you feel as though people are being mean about the place you bought your puppies. What breed do you have? Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see them.

I hope I can help explain a few things so that you might understand why we get so upset seeing pet stores selling puppies for these prices.

First of all, many of the puppies they advertise are small because they are young.

Many of the breeds they are selling are TOY breeds and only come in one size. Yorkies don't have Micro's, TeaCups, Tinies etc. They are just Yorkshire Terriers which should weigh up to 7 lbs. There are no inbetween sizes. Granted there will always be some bigger and some smaller - but they are not suppose to be bred that way.

I noticed quite a few puppies that were less than 12 weeks old. Toy breeds shouldn't be separated from their mom or littermates prior to that and/or 2 lbs. And if this pet store has them at 9 weeks then they probably were taken at least a week earlier than that so they could be shipped to them from a puppymill or broker.

I didn't see any mention of pedigree with any of the puppies. IF they were from good breeding... believe me - they wouldn't be there to be sold. So to say that these puppies are coming from reputable breeders just isn't so. They are coming from puppymills/brokers who are only trying to make a lot of money off of over breeding dogs.

The people at this store may bathe the puppies - put pretty dresses and bows on them and maybe really care about the puppies once they get there but I really doubt that they are concerned about where they're coming from because if they did.... they wouldn't be selling them.

Please take a look at some of the links I'm going to list. IF you really want to know what we're talking about - please read them - that way you don't have to take our word for it.

I hope you come back. There's a lot to learn about what's happening to the dogs in this country and there are a lot of really good people on this forum.

CJ, thank you for your post above. Your way of educating is much better than my attempt, which was somewhat rude. My Mother really did teach me manners, IDK why I don't remember them at times.

To: ohashfo, my apologies for not being polite and trying to educate as CJ125 has done with her excellent post! I do welcome you to YT and hope you will stick around. I'll also hope you will have a change of heart about pet stores.

most everyone with a brain wouldn't 'shop' there so no worries. As much as I'm against pet stores - a fifteen THOUSAND dollar price for a puppy is pretty sickening and says exactly where their heads are at.

My mom used to tell me ....a fool and his money are easily parted - kind of applies to the price of those brokered puppies I think....

I totally agree!! When my 13 year old Yorkie passed away, I bought with my heart and not my head!! I hadn't been involved in staying current with dog registrations and bought a Yorkie that was APRI "registered"; however the breeder would register my baby with AKC for an add'l $75!! (I already paid $1,000 for this dog). Anyway, long story short - don't let these people fool you with their weird registrations - only buy AKC if you want a pure bred dog. (I do love my baby, however, and wouldn't trade her for the world; although she now looks like a very long Yorkie - not compact as the standard says they should be) :animal-pa

Unfortuanately AKC does not guarantee a full breed dog either.
Your best bet is to see the mom and dad to be sure.
