Awhile back I went to visit my boyfriend's family and I brought Jimi, and his sister asked, "Is that an albino yorkie!?"

I guess she didn't know that some yorkies' coats lighten up as they age.
Either way.. I didn't realize he was that light-colored, lol.

So, I just happened to be reading chapter 18 of Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies and there is a section titled "Toto Was a Yorkie (Maybe)"
So I thought I would share it:
"Some folks claim that the character Toto in L.Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was a Yorkie. According to Frank, Toto was 'a little black dog, with long silky hair and small black eyes that twinkled merrily on either side of his funny, wee nose.'
This description, you have to admit, can apply to several breeds of dogs. But the Wizard of Oz's original illustrator, W.W.Denslow, owned a Yorkie and very well may have used his dog as a model for the illustrations in the book. So Toto may or may not be a Yorkie. But he definitely wasn't a Cairn Terrier, which is the type of dog cast in the 1939 movie version."

Thanks for this bit of trivia, which can also be readily found on the net... I would postulate that for about 99% of the people who make that tired old comment (and I have heard that dozens of times over the years), they are comparing our Yorkies to the Carin Terrier in the movie. So I always shoot back that Toto was a Carin, but maybe they are wiser than I suspect.

Found this online and thought interesting. Wanted to see why they used a norwich terrier in the movie:

However, from the illustrations in the first book many have concluded that Toto is a Cairn Terrier while others believe the dog is a Yorkshire Terrier as this breed was very popular at the time. In subsequent books Toto becomes a Boston Terrier for reasons that are never explained, but then resumes the earlier look in later books.

Seems the illustrator could not make up his mind.

:sidesplt: OMG what did you say to the woman???

One time a lady came in the shop and met Uni and was holding her, and asked "Boy or girl? Boy, right?" as she is looking "down there". And I say "no girl", and she looks AGAIN and she says "No, boy, right?" and I say "uh, no... girl" This went on for about 2 or 3 more times. Her friend had to tell her to stop asking.

Where is the YTer that once wrote he was walking his pup and a girl asked what kind it was and he said "yorkshire terrier" and she goes "Oh that's cute but I want a yorkie." And he says "that's what he is" and she says "no, you just said he was a yorkshire terrier not a yorkie" :sidesplt:

:eyetearss If I were in either situation, I would be looking for the hidden camera and waiting for someone to tell me that I was being set up.

My mom calls Daisy Bunny as in dust bunny. This all came about because I said there were dust bunnies under my boy's beds bigger than Daisy. Mu husband, who loves her to death, tells her that she looks like Master Splinter for the Ninja Turtles. Those of you who don't like your baby compared to a rat really won't like that. It was said in a very loving way.

Adi-and-Missy 01-24-2010 07:48 PM

Someone said Missy looks like a mini Buck Bundy (from Married with Children)
LOL

Some lady said, "wow what a big yorkie!" She weighs 5 pounds!" I told her I wished she was 10 pounds bigger so she'd be tougher!! :) (and bite her ;)

Hey Buck Bundy was awesome. He had his own credit card!

I hate it when people say "oh so and so's is sooooooo much smaller!" It's not a contest people!

Oh yea that reminds me. One time a brother and sister came in my shop and they said "oh look a yorkie! oh.... mine's way smaller." so ok, I bite, I ask "how big is yours?" They say "oh like a pound, or like less than a pound". Ok.... get a scale that works. Either that or you need to be calling the Guinness book of world records.

Oh my I love these. Keep em coming please. lol.
Mine just get called dusters.

I've had people say that Max is way nicer looking than Cleo and that they want to take him home lol.

Also they have both been called rats by people we go passed and family members. Max also gets called a gremlin by family members. And we always call Cleo 'Tiger' because of the way she jumps up at us when she wants something lol.

One lady asked, " Is that a cat?" to which I replied, "Yes, he's a Yorkshire Tabby." Another lady asked one time, " Is that a real dog?" to which I replied, "NO, he's a robot." :D

So not the cutest comment, but the funniest thing I just figured out! I'm using my laptop and have Rambo on my lap where he loves to be. I have always noticed he loves looking at my screen and watches it for long periods of time.

Well as I was moving my mouse his little head moves. It's like he is staking my mouse icon.... it is too cute!

sorry about this off the wall post but it has me astounded!

OMG...my girls do that too and I love it. I brought Lola to my kitchen design appointment at Home Depot. She was resting on the desk quietly until she saw the mouse icon moving around on this huge monitor. The design associate got such a lick out of Lola's reaction, they played for a very long time. Lola was invited to every appointment ever since.

My husband and all his friends come over to my house and when they see my cute yorkie they always say that shes a dustmop and they even call her that, she responses to it becasue shes young. I find that they are always making fun of me for "not having a real dog" but there always asking where is sophie and holding and playing with her.
