I was speaking with someone today about Yorkies (What a suprise huh!) and when I had mentioned Sammi was blue and gold she had said..."Wow that is a suprise, it's a very rare yorkie color now" Is this true? I know I do see alot more of the black and dark tan ones, but I am pretty sure the blue and gold are not as rare as she says...

Anyone know if the Blue/Gold yorkie is rare now?

I thought Blue and Tan are the 'breed standard' colors.

mine has a bluesh silver body and tan face and paws....

there are 4 AKC colors
Black and Tan
Blue and Gold
Blue and Tan
Black and Gold
also now Parti-color

The blue and gold is not rare at all
your friend might be refering to a blue born puppy and getting them confused.

I would say and blue and tan from the pic but its sometime deceiving where as the colors could be more pronounced in person.

Kacee's body is turning silver. Her head is turning pale blonde. Is that blue and gold or something else? In the avatar it looks white, but it's not...

Chachi is like you describe and he is a blue and tan. Jewels has a golden face and she is a blue and gold.

I also have a blue & gold yorkie and his name is sami too :D The breeder I bought him from told me that they are called blue because his skin is almost colbalt or a blue black? the gold on sami looks like an amber so Im not sure what the differnce is other than I know sami has dark blue skin and actualy I would say he is blue black? your baby is too cute!! does anyone have any pics of the of the difference between blue & gold /blue & tan I know the tan is quite obvious but how does the breeder decipher the difference? here is a pic of sami and he is 9 months and he is still quite black his amber is turning into a blond looks like I had his hair weaved :rolleyes:

wow she is so pretty! thank you! I think maybe sami is taking awhile to look like summer he still looks like a puppy? maybe it's because his summer cut has not grown long enough to look like summer? he is nine months now and summer looks like like a little model :)

Thank you that is a great picture! It really gives me a idea what sami should grow to look like. but when? :rolleyes: he still looks like a baby??

Here are some pictures of my old Mollie (RIP) To me, she was an usual colored dog (more so in the last 2 pictures... maybe because her face hair was so much lighter...??)

She was absolutely beautiful and just a little doll! :p I sorta think Kacee's coloring is going to be like that in her face. It's all new to me since Muffin was black and tan. :confused: Kacee's back is turning silver. I do like the colors, though. It's just different than what I am used to looking at. :)

I think what's most confusing is that when you register a litter of puppies, the AKC asks what color they are. When Yorkies are born (or at least all of the pups I've ever had), they are black and tan. (I've had people say "Oh look....little baby Rotweilers!!" :lol tears ) Then, by the time they're old enough to sell, they've changed colors. My male is blue and gold, my females are both black and tan by registration standards. Most of the puppies remain black/tan, but some of them are silver/tan, or grey (?) and tan. Just about everyone on here says their Yorkies change colors by the time they're a year old. So.....why does the AKC make you register them by a certain color, when chances are that they will change??

Tan is lighter than the gold. Tan is a light creamy color where the gold is like an amber color. My dogs one has a tan face and one has the gold face.

Ok now, that makes sense. I was thinking that Rowdy's papers said he was blue and gold (his face is very light), but I just looked at them and he is blue and tan. That makes more sense - here's my little blue and tan guy!

I dont know he looks like a blue and gold to me. He has gold on his snout. Thats how Jewels is the top of her head is the lighter tan but on her face she has the gold. I consider her and blue and gold.

The hair on the top of his head is very very light, but the hair on his snout and coming off to form his beard, is very golden??? :confused: It doesn't really matter though! :p

The reg on my two say Blue and Gold . But they are over a year and they look Black and gold to me.

Tan is paler than gold .

Sammi looks Blue & Tan, same as my Lily.
Blue & Gold is not rare. I'll attach a pic of my Woody he is Gold &
a pic of Lily she is Tan.
You can see the difference

OMG! I didn't know I could be so confused. :D

Then Muffin must have been black and gold and Kacee must be blue and tan! :confused: Kacee is the one in the sweater. Her back is turning a silver.
