Adult Tooth Gone!...Now What? Of course I'm wrecked, she's only 15 months old, and I just noticed she's missing one of her botton front adult teeth!!! I don't even know why I looked in there, just now, but the tooth is gone...She must have lost it, chewing on bully sticks, or grabbing something from Buzz? Whatever, I'm totally upset, thinking that the teeth on either side will start losing their integrity, because that little tooth is not supporting them, anymore? Does anyone know what can be done about this, if anything? I know w/a human, they'd put a false tooth, or, a spacer between them, but don't know about yorkies? I'm going to call the vet, when they open, but just wanted to see if anyone could give me any info? Thanks |
That is strange! Is it gone from the root? Are her other teeth loose? I would think that if that tooth were healthy it would not have come out by the root. It's hard to believe it came out from chewing a bully stick. Buddy chews solid beef bones and puts dents into them and his teeth are still solid in his mouth. Let us know what the vet says. |
I guess it's out from the root, I didn't see a break-off point...She's sleeping, so I'm not going to look, right now...But thanks for the response...I'll let you know, after she's had her nap... |
My Becca lost 3 of her front bottom teeth before she was 3 years old. Her doctor examined her for problems and found nothing - he told me that the teeth in some small dogs just aren't rooted well and there's not much to keep them held in. Becca never lost another tooth and her little grin stayed as beautiful as ever. She never had any problems eating or chewing. I hope that's the case for little Apple, but I think you should have your vet take a look and make sure she isn't developing a gum disease or something else that he can help treat. |

I hope everything is okay with Apple! |
Sorry your baby lost her tooth...that's strange. She's beautiful anyway :) Please post back and let us know what your vet thinks might be the cause. :animal-pa |
Well, I have an app't. in the morning @ 8:40...She's not there today :( ...I don't know if it's my imagination, but she doesn't seem her rambunctious self? Still would like some answers, if anyone has had to deal w/this... |

I hope everything works out with her teeth. Milo is going for his second teeth cleaning next week and he is only 4 1/2. Try not to let your imagination go wild, I know that is very hard to do. Has she been eating normal? |
That is very odd. I've never had that happen with any of my dogs. I'm hoping her not seeming like herself is your imagination. Could she maybe be sensing that you are thrown off by all of this? Hopefully everything is *just* fine and you give us a positive update tomorrow. :) |

Oh, Maggie I know you must be worried, but I am praying you get good news tomorrow. I can't imagine that Apple could have gum disease or anything. Maybe that one tooth just wasn't deeply rooted. Anxiously awaiting your update tomorrow. |
I'm pretty sure Jackson lost 1 adult tooth when a neighbor's Black Lab got loose (we live on 3 acres and this is our "neighbor" who owns 90 acres of farm behind us) and took a quick bite of Jackson (thank God, it was nothing more). This was right after his neuter when he had 4 baby teeth removed and all I saw was blood coming out of his mouth but at the time -- I couldn't tell if the tooth was actually missing. I'm still not entirely sure but I'm pretty sure he is missing a tooth. They kind of just went together and there's not a gap there or anything! |
