About to buy a yorkie from a lady(not a breeder) is this legit?should i buy her?
 

ok guys i really need your help on this
i found an ad for a lady who wants to sell a yorkie girl and her brother they are 8 months old look healthy.
she got them from a friend as a gift and thinks they are too much to handle. she's selling the girl for 300$ what she paid for vacc/care. she got them free. no papers just the vet info/vaccine info
up to date on vaccination
those pups live with her family
i googled her/found on her on fb not a byb shes a professional nurse with kids and her house looks very pretty not that it matters but she doesnt look like she needs the extra money from yorkie business...

What QUESTIONS SHOULD I ASK?
IS IT WORTH IT TO TAKE THE PUP TO THE VET WITH THE LADY? FROM WHAT IVE SEEN VET IN HOUSTON ARE SCAMMERS :( pls help i need to make a decision about this cute pup.

I would go ahead and do it. For $300 that is a steal for a yorkie girl.

First of all, what exactly do you mean when you say the vet in Houston are scammers??? I'm confused as to what you mean by that. But from everything else you've said, I don't see why you're so uncertain about her. I guess what matters the most is how you feel about the situation, people usually can tell when they're being scammed; if you feel unsure, than look into this further. The best advice I can give is to acutally go to her home and take a look at the pups for yourself. It sounds like she just wants to find a good home for her babies, so take a look-see. And ask lots of questions- about their vet-care, whether they're utd on shots and whether or not they have medical issues that need to be addressed, and of course questions about the dog's personality. And did she say you could come with her to the vet??? Most would just tell you to have the dog checked out within so many hours (days) by your own vet (which I recommend), then if something is wrong you can take the dog back and get your money back in return with proof. Though she isn't the breeder of these pups, I would still believe she would be smart enough to have a contract in place. What she expects from you and what is expected of her. This should protect both parties if something were to arise.

It was free because they were gifts.

If vets in the area are scammers what are you going to do if the dog gets sick or needs medical attention? Just because they are up to date on shots doesn't mean they won't require vet care in the future. Personally I would go see the dog and then make a decision.

I commend you on looking her up and doing some research, i do this a lot myself when i take in to consideration buying anything...unfortunately with so many going on in the world right now people cant be trusted. If you have done this research and feel that it would be a good risk to take then i would do it! It seems like you are going to be giving a pup a good chance of a steady home with love.

And what do you mean by the vets are scammers?

I would make an appointment to go visit the pups at her home.
If you like what you see ask for the vet's name and call him
and ask for information on the pup. If all that checks out buy
the pup. There is never a guarantee that a pup won't get sick
somewhere down the road but if they are healthy today then
that's all one can ask for.
I wouldn't hesitiate if that's what you want to do.
Your very lucky to find a healthy Yorkie pup for only $300.00.

If I read your post right you said these puppies do not have papers? I'm not sure I would pay someone $300 for a dog that was not registered. But that's just me.

If this dog is a prue bred Yorkshire Terrier $300.00 is very reasonable.
You don't need papers if your not going to breed. You would pay this
if this were a rescue. IMO It certainly is worth it providing the pup
is healthy.

Hmmm...$300 for a dog with no papers, to me, is always cause for suspicion.

Hopefully, this lady is not just trying to get rid of the dogs to the first person that comes along with the money and is carefully screening potential homes and doing her research on YOU as well. :cool:

She sounds like a pet owner in a bad situation... that is the main reason i do not place a puppy unless i meet the FINAL owner.....
She was gifted the dogs right?
She took them to vet right?
She is asking a very small re-homing fee to cover her vet expenses and to make sure the dogs are going to a good home right?

Now the real question you need to answer: Is she in driving distance from you?
How much do you know about dogs? Can you tell if the dog will have something obvious? healthy bright eyes, clean, nails done, groomed ... those are indications of a well cared pet.

can you read the health records and understand if the vet put any remarks? Only regular care?

And i believe it would be fair to ask if the actual owner could accompany you to a near vet and at your expense have the dogs looked over to make you feel more secure . Beyond that it seems very unfair since the owner is only asking for a very reasonable adoption fee. I also do not think that any pet owner would be able to offer you any guarantees... and 8 month old pup... a vet check should be good enough for you.

If you are looking for all health assurance and guarantees you also should expect to be paying decent money to a reputable breeder!

Do not loose the opportunity ! act fast !

I think that it would be a great idea to rescue these two little ones from an owner that no longer wants them. Are you sure that you can't take them both? ;) I would just go to the sellers home and visit them before making a commitment, just to make sure that everything seems as it should be. A call to their vet wouldn't hurt either. Good luck. Please let us know what happens.

I think if the puppy were younger then 12 weeks and she was trying to get rid of it or them, then I would be suspicious, but like what most everyone is saying, she is a pet owner in a bad situation. She probably feels bad that she cant spend time w/ the puppys. If you found anything wrong or have a bad feeling about this then don't do it. if you feel like she is strait and what she says is the truth. then go for it. if I could get a healthy yorkie for $300 I would do it in a heartbeat.
