Sorry to the OP as I know this is off topic, but just wanted to comment on CL, who was a good friend. Other than his fantastic, sometimes warped, sense of humor, my first mothers day I was in Albuquerque at dog shows and CL brought a carnation to the motor home for me knowing I was away from home and my hubby and daughter. Yeah, the stories I could tell...and the ones I couldn't tell...lol

Just to claify, some pups never outgrow the thumb prints....ususally those that are soft coated. At times their head furnishings never clear to the desired gold.

My 13-month old boy has the "skunk" streak and thumb prints and I doubt he will ever clear.

What is a soft coat?

He is the one (my first try at wrapping) I tried my hands at wapping him for the first time and decided to wrap him at night. I woke up to all his coat in his wraps on the floor!! Word of warning... and what I learned - "Never wrap a coat for the first time for the dog at night." Always try in the day and watch them. We did not have wraping jackets back then. He was my very first real show dog.

Have to do some inovative hairdressing with those thumb prints.

I know about wraps.....I usually start the pups just wrapping their hips....one on each side.....and keep adding as they get use to them.....

The other thing some people need to know is the type of wraps used, each coat texture is different....as well as the coat density.

The best way I can tell you from what I learned by (someone said this) - take several strands of your babies coat - now wrap it around your finger. Now does the strands of coat look like yarn or satin? If it looks like yarn - most likely soft coat. If smooth and looks like satin - it is a silky coat.
Your baby in your avitar looks silky, but hard to tell in photos. How old is he?

I think he will clear, still can't be sure from a photo. By the way when they are wet or in oil they will look darker.

If his coat reflects light...it's silk......I can usually tell with a pup when their coat begins to grow out...I look at the part line.....if it's shiney...most likely silk.......

At approximately what age does the head hair clear?

When dry, Max's part shines and he reflects blue.

Clearing depends very much on the lines he's from. I prefer mine not to clear too soon.......it seems when I get one that does.....they go too light on me......There are some lines that turn to white and then go gold....
