my new Yorkie puppy is off the charts! ...the size charts, that is! I just brought home my lil Rocco today as a lil buddy for my Bella. Up til a couple months ago her best friend was a cat, however she sadly passed away.. :( Rocco is a sweet baby at right about 12 weeks and is a chunky lil thing! :p I was checking out the site Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow and according to their pounds to ounces converter (now i think i did this right, how badly can i screw up a generated conversion??) he would be at 80 ounces which is not even on the charts until 26 weeks!! So it's quite obvious that he's not going to be a six-pounder lol! My Bella is half yorkie and is 7 lbs even. how much bigger than her do you think Rocco will be? I don't mind the extra thickness but i would like to have some idea to prepare myself for a potentially 16-20 lb lil boy who was estimated to be "6 or 7 lbs" by the breeder lol. thanks in advance, and i apologize if there is already a thread out there like this one.. |
Wanted to bump this before it got lost.... How much does your guy weigh right now (in lbs. and oz.)?? |
How old is he and how much does he weigh in lbs. and ozs.? |

No reputable breeder will guarantee a pups final size. The only way you can guarantee that you obtain the size that you desire is by purchasing a yorkie that is older. |

I see this is your first post :)! Congratulations & Welcome to YorkieTalk Post some pics when you can. :D |
Zeus was three pounds at nine weeks and I thought he was off the charts. He is now over a year old at 7lbs. I think he is the perfect size for us. You just never know what size they may end up being. |
Welcome to yorkie talk. I guessing your Little one is going to be 9-10lbs. Just more to love . I have a 14lb boy and a 20Lb Boy and they are still small dogs. |
Welcome to the amazing Yorkies forum. My boy was supposed to be between 5 and 6 lbs turned out to be 12lbs 3 oz. The girl is now 8lbs.. The other boy is 5lbs (was supposed to stay around 3lbs) My Shih Tzu is 8 lbs. And yes they are still small dogs, that is if you compare to my daughter's black lab who weighs 80 some odd lbs. LOL |
Gracie followed the growth charts pretty much. She was supposed to weigh 5 1/2 pounds. She weighs 6 and is very solid! Bristol is 12 1/2 weeks and weighs 2.8 pounds so we shall see what she does. Parents were under 6 pounds for all. |
Both of mine ended up bigger than the weight charts said they would be |

Rily was following the chart to be around 6 lbs. The lady I got him from said between 5-7 lbs, so that's what I thought he would be. However, after he was neutered at 4.5 months he had a growth spurt. He is now close to nine pounds at 9 months. Saydee started out tiny, but that changed. She is a big eater and now at 4.5 months, she is around 5.5 lbs. and off the chart. However, she is much shorter than Rily and she appears to be slowing down. I also measurer their back and leg lengths. Both have not gotten much longer or taller in over a month, but they have filled out some. I personally don't think you can put much faith into the charts....each pup will be what it will be. They all are different. I hoped for tiny dogs because they are easier for me to handle, but even at 9 pounds, Rily is still a small dog. :animal-pa |

Wait wait wait Are you saying you have a 12 week old puppy that is 5 pounds right now? Are you sure? Did you mix up grams with oz? If he were 80 Grams or 2.9 pounds that would be 41 oz. Therefore he would be 4.5 to 5 pounds on the chart. (You can thank my husband for the math! LOL) |
My Baby Bear is a little over 6 lb at 5 months. I would love for him to be 10 lb or even more. Do you think he will end up being a "bigger" boy? :) Thanks |
