lady offered to buy a puppy A Lady that works with my sister offered to buy one of my Fiona's babies for $400. Is that too little??? I counted with $600 to see what she would say. She told me she was not willing to buy a mixed dog or a dog without papers for more than $400. the only reason why she was willing to buy my puppy was because she knew my sister and her dog (the father) and she has meet the mother (my sister takes them to work with her sometimes) she was looking for a pure breed when my sister told her I had puppies. I kind of felt like she just dissed my babies. Do you think my asking price was too much? The lady was very nice, had a gaint three karat ring on her finger. I figured the Hubby must have money. I started thinking "maybe they'll spoil the little one rotten," which is a good thing. After thinking about it for a bit, I don't think I want to sell my dog to someone who wants a pure breed and papers. Simply put mines are none of that. If you know what you want, go and get it, leave mines be. |
I would never pay $600 for a mixed breed, either. You can go to the pound for those. :) Are your pups purebred or mixed? Also - just because a person has money does NOT mean the pup is going to a "good" home. |
Your puppies are Yorkie/Chi...right? No offense but I wouldn't even pay $400.00 for a mixed breed...too many are in shelters waiting for loving homes for way less than $400.00. |
I don't see why you would be offended if someone wanted a purebred with papers? It isn't dissing your dogs, your pups are what they are. I am sure they are special and adorable just like all puppies. Don't feel offended. Personally I wouldn't pay 600$ either, I don't even think I would pay 400$ for mixed puppies. I have a possible mixed yorkie-poo. I paid 150$ for her when she was 10 months old. I would pay 250$ max probably. |
I wouldn't pay $400 for a mix...sorry just being honest. |
I have to agree with the others on this!! I would never pay $400 for a mix, way to much. |
I agree, I would not pay $600 or $400 for a mixed breed. I might pay $150. (max) but that is it. And it would depend on the breeds that were mixed, too. So I would take the $400 and run, if the lady is willing to take a puppy for that price. |
I agree with the other posters on here, I would never pay that much money for a mixed breed. You should have taken her up on that offer, because she is one of only a few that I think would ever pay that much. Also, just because she might have money doesn't mean that you should want to take advantage of her by charging that much for a mixed breed pup. Obviously you love your pups, no one is denying that, but your main goal should be to find them GOOD homes, not out to make a buck. But the main question still remains, are your pups mixed or full bred? |
No offense but I wouldnt pay $600 for a mixed breed. Thats what I paid for one of my full bred yorkies |
If shes a nice lady and your sister knows her to be able to take care of a pup, I would take the 400$ and be happy. |
I understand that most people are only willing to pay for a pure breed. I wasn't going to sell any of my puppies. I made that decision when my little one got pregnant. I knew that my new little ones were not going to be prized like a pure breed and I wasn't willing to chance that they may end up in a home that doesn't value them simply because of that. or worst end up at a shelter. The lady knew I wasn't planning on selling the puppies and she offered to pay for one. i needed to know if she really wanted the puppy to love. I figured she just becuase one becuase it would be cheaper than a pure breed. I have great homes lined up three of them, for free. I am keeping one. One is going to my best friend and two are going to my boyfriends mother. but they both have told me that if someone was willing to buy one it would would be okay to them. If i was going to sell one to a stranger, the stranger would have to work for it. And most people wont do that for a mutt. And I dont need the money. I just want great homes for the little ones. =) |
I have a yorkie/chi ("chorkie") and he was only $100 or $150 (can't remember now), as I got him at 5 months old from another family who was getting rid of him. I personally (being a biased mommy) think he's the most adorable dog in the whole world - BUT I still wouldn't have paid $600 for him. Do you have any pictures? I would love to see the little cuties! :D |
I wouldn't pay $400 for a mix because if thats the case........well I'm going too leave this one alone here. Good luck! |
I was offended because she asked me for a puppy knowing they were mutts. if she wanted a pure breed with papers go get one. She didnt' need to ask me. I asked for $600 just to see what she would say. i proberly would've given them to her for free if she had tried to impress me with how much she would love the dog. instead of going on on about how my dogs are not pure. the puppies are chorkies. |

Any pictures? :) |
That is way too much money to charge that lady. I personally dont think that how much money a person is willing to pay to purchase a mixed breed unpapered dog has any bearing on how great of an owner they will be. They just wont be suckered into paying that much for the initial cost of the dog. Thats being smart in my book! In fact, I think I might be offended if someone tried to charge me that much lol. |

I dont think she meant to offend you when she said your pups werent pure. I just think just like me she has a limit on what she will pay for a mixed dog |

Ok, I am confused by this. You are giving three of the puppies away, but won't take the 400.00 from a lady that offered it to you?? The other thing that you mentioned is that a mix is cheaper than a pure bred. That should be ovbious, but your statement makes it sound like you are selling a Yorkie at less than a Yorkie price, when in fact they are not Yorkies. It is misleading because people think that just because it is half Yorkie it will grow up to be Yorkie and that is totally misleading. I hope I am not offending you, as that is not the intent of my post. |
4 Attachment(s) they look like little mutts :D |
It also seems odd that those who were getting free puppies said that if you could sell the puppy they were supposed to be getting it would be fine, I'd question those homes.. It seems to me like they feel they are doing you a favor by getting one but if you could make some dough off of them--they are okay with not getting one. :thumbdown They must not want one if they dont care. If this had been a planned breeding and had your dog been prescreened with the vet, the puppies had vet checks, tail docking and shots, that would be another story--sell them for what you feel you need to, but I'm not getting the vibe that you had this pregnancy planned. |
Aww Pixel looked a lot like the one on the far right from the pics I saw (except not as chubby - I think he was the runt) :D |

I love the tan one and the one in the last pic!! I really don't think people are meaning to say that purebreds are better then a mixed dog. I have a purebred yorkie and a yorki-poo. I love them both just the same, I don't treat them any different and they are just as much as a dog as a purebred, its just that some people try to make a living off mixed pups and people don't like that. |

I'm sorry if it's confusing. I knew the lady was looking for a pure breed dog I am assuming she couldn't find one for $400, she told my sister that was the amount she was willing to use for a puppy. So she asked me if i would be willing to sell one of my puppy to her for $400. $600 was the first thing that come to mind I didnt' think about it I just wanted to see what she would say. Like I said I already had homes for my puppies (free). What she said just made me think that she doesn't really want a mix breed. So I didn't want to give any puppies to her for any amount NOT EVEN FOR MORE THAN 600. |

Exactly! that is my question too??? OP...I wouldn't pay 400 for a mix breed and I know a lot of members on here have stated that. The lady probably thinks the puppies are cute and like the parent dogs...that is why she is offering you 400 instead of getting a purebred. Instead of being insulted you should have been flattered. 400 is a very good offer. |

How about a spay for your pup and a neuter for your sisters as well. Just not a good idea to bring more puppies into this world with then ecomony that way it is and so many being brought to shelters. :( |

they feel bad that I wont take money for the puppies. My conditions were vet visit as soon as you pick up the puppy, puppy classes, neuter, heartworm meds etc. and the puppy stays on EVO until adulthood. |

Ok, I get now what you are saying. I think I may have to agree with you that is basically what I am saying. If she thinks it will grow up to look like a Yorkie, she will be sadly dissappointed. I mean, I guess some take on more traits of one or the other parent as apparent in your puppies, but they will still be a mixed breed, and not likely to look pure bred at all. I too would hate for her to later decide it is not what she really wanted..:) |
