Is your yorkie scared of things?
 

Lily seems to be scared of alot of things....She seemed fine at home. We had gotten her in Sept. and she has went camping with us and did fine. But since we set out for Florida (this week) and she had gotten so nervous...she's seems scared of so much. Like my DH went fishing off of the dock, he caught a fish and she was scared of death of it!!!! I'm really concerned...I don't want her to be so scared of things...and we want to travel and I don't want her to not be comfortable going too. She does fine like when we get to the hotel or if she's in the house. She definelty does not like change!!!! :( What can I do to ease her into things?

By the way....I just LOVE her so much and want her with me all the time...I don't want to leave her behind!!!! LOL!!!!:animal-pa

Well, she is just a youngster yet. The best thing you can do when they are like that is to expose them to all kinds of situations and when they show you they are scared - just pat her on the head and tell it is all right. Do this every time she acts that way. She will probably always be a bit that way, but as she gets older she will be less so.

That is the reason to expose them to new things when they are very young puppies. :)

When I first brought Missy home, I don't think she'd ever had a toy. :( I squeaked on of her squeaky toys and she ran under the bed! It took a few days, but she got over it. :D
She is also afraid of the vacuum cleaner, but only when it's on! :rolleyes: When it's off, she barks at it and climbs on it like, Take that! lol.
I think your little one just needs a little time and she'll be fine!!

Well this is a funny but when my husband sneezes Jack/Bella run away. they don't like the noise.(ha,ha). And its not just one time Andy is one of the ones who sneezes a couple of times in a row.. And LOUD..


I think they would be use to it by now but it takes me by surprise sometimes..

I'd like to empathise to continue to expose her to new things constantly. We want our Razzle to go everywhere with us so yes sometimes he gets nervous but we reassure with our voices - no pets at all - and move onto the next thing. Your baby is how old? Got in september maybe 5 months or so. Sometimes they go through a scared period can be anywhere from 5mths to 9mths old Then you need to be carefull.

When Razz was about 7 months all of a sudden and I do mean from one day to the next he got scared about going into my work - walking along Yonge street.He had be coming with me since he was 3months old! I called my breeder and explained what was happening and she said okay for now - for about 3 weeks keep him at home. So I did on the fourth week in we go to work and he walked along Yonge street like he never had a problem! Go figure -

Razz so far has flown with me about 4000 miles - gone camping, and hiking through all terrain, been on a ferry boat, been swimming, been to agility, and of course the show rings. We've taken him to pet stores, along our waterfront(busy place with lots of folks, dogs, n bikes, visited other peoples homes, but still sometimes he will shy away from a different noise or environment - and sometimes he will bark like mad too! lol

I agree, continue to expose her to things, and don't "baby" her BEFORE she acts scared, or you are showing her to be scared.
She needs to learn to trust your judgment, and make good decisions herself... she is very malable(SP ~ impressionable~) right now, she could go either way...lol

Lily is still pretty young, which is when Roxy was the most fearful. There are a couple things I can tell you that worked really good.

Booms from fireworks: They upset her some. About a week after the 4th of July some neighbors (about a mile in back of us) set off fireworks. Discovered I could see them through the trees. So went outside where she was barking & upset. Sat on a bench. She ran right to me... her heart pounding through her chest. As the pretty lights showed up in the sky, I'd softly oooow & aaaaahhh & quietly talk about how pretty they were. After a bit, I could feel her heart beats returning to normal. She sat with me quietly & soon acted like she enjoyed them. Thunder doesn't seem to bother her as much since then too. Actually I did the same type of thing w/my 2 boy skin kids when we had those middle of the night storms that woke them up. We'd go sit & watch out the window at all the lightening. Quietly Oooow & ahhhh & wow that was a loud one.

Dishwasher: ooooww spooky to her & it is very quiet. So I picked her up & her treat cup, sat on the floor right up against the dishwasher. Everytime she was quiet, she'd get a treat. Talked quietly to her & treat. We sat there for a good 5+ minutes like that. Since then she doesn't even seem to notice when I turn it on.

I think the key is to try & find a way of helping her to understand the situation you're in & be reassuring. Be prepared to use your imagination to figure it out. They all seem to have their own things that work & don't work. Try to be reassuring without over coddling. Just calm. The more experiences she has, the better she should get at dealing with new things. Happy travels!

My Hutch didn't like sneezes either ~ or hiccups! We took him everywhere from puppy age. He traveled well until he turned 15 -1/2. We are campers, and he decided in his old age that he didn't like campfires.

Jasmine is scared of the washing machine noise and the crackling noise from wood in the fireplace.

But, if a Wolf came to the front door she would attack him..........go figure...LOL

Ruger doesn't like the vacuum cleaner, but most dogs don't. Surprisingly he has done fine with fireworks, fireplaces and the bombs they set off for avalanche control. Still waiting to see how he does with thunder.

I don't hold him or do anything special, and I think that makes a difference. I just let him "enjoy" the experience.

Most of the time if Callie is scared of something I try to show it to her if thats possible like the vacuum she still is scared of it but I have carried her over to it and said look see its not going to hurt you and let her sniff it sometimes she will lick whatever it is and that has worked many times not with the vacuum but with other things.

Hot Rod is the same way. You can see he wants to go up to things but he's got 3 paws running backwards, lol. He's gotten a bit better--its so funny when he's unsure of something, he run up and bark and then run back and so on. But if he's really protecting mommy, he stands his ground. I don't know what the difference is? lol

All of our babies are afraid of the fly swater. They have never been hit with it but have seen us swat at flying bugs.

:animal-pa Tybee is afraid of going up and down the stairs inside (even the ones used to get on the sofa) however, she will go up and down the stairs outside from one deck to another to get to the pool area. :confused:
