What do you talk about? I'm always talking to my kiddos. I tell them what I'm doing, like "mommy needs to start a load of laundry", or "mommy is going to sit down and pay bills". I tell them about interesting stories on the news, or what the weatherman is predicting. I ask them to remind me to do things (which of course they never remember to do). I tell them about things that have happened at work that day. And so on.... Am I crazy? Does anyone else talk to their yorkies? What do you talk about? |
Bonnie, I do the same thing, "mommy needs to start dinner" "mommy needs to potty".....I think they do understand somewhat! My DH will walk in and say "who you talking to" LOL Gets him everytime! You aren't alone, we both are nuts!;) |
Bonny, thank heavens I'm not the only one. LOL I always converse with Buddy telling him what I'm doing. When I get home from work I ask him how his day went then tell him about mine. LOL Samething in the am when we play I sit and put him on my legs while I'm sitting on the floor and talk to him about being good when I leave for work and what he needs to do while I'm gone, like sleep and look out the window, no barking of course. I love the expression on his face with his head going from side to side like he's evaluating what I'm saying. I think that's why these guys are so smart, because we talk to them daily. Of course when we go to bed I tell him, nighty night good boy, mommy loves you. Oh heavens do I need a life or what?:p |

Well, I talk to them...um...all the time :p...so then I was trying to think of "what do I say the most, self?". So, to Wylie, as he's kissing me, bc he has the *best* breath ever (Marcel's is pretty much odorless most of the time DANG IT), it's: "You're so delicious, you're so delicious, ohmygod you're more delicious than yesterday!" To Marcel, who *totally LOVES* to be asked what he is carrying in mouth (omg, it makes him FEEL LIKE A KING), it's: "Whatcha got-zez? Whatcha GOTZ? Whats the baby got-zez?" -- and he prances around like he found a billion dollars. Both of these scenarios are repeated every day, several times a day... |
I frequently say to myself that I devote more time talking to someone who does not answer than I do to people who talk back.... but I do spend most of my day with her- ..... so i guess it is better than being silent all day. Layla, like Marcel, LOVES when you acknowledge what she has in her mouth- so we talk about her mousie or her bone (she is asking for a treat). I ask her if she needs a nap, or has to go out. We talk abotu the weather or wathever it is I am doing.... I FREQUENTLY just say Hi to her- "hi muffin girl" "Hi bunny" and she gets SO excited when I do that- her tail goes- she gives me her bum and then she runs to get on a chair or a couch so she can get loved up. |
This is exactly why I became a member here . . .to join fellow crazies as myself. My entire family including my husband (although I've seen him do it to) thinks I should be committed. Both Brody and Rhianna are talked to like they are my actual kids and I know they do understand for the most part of what I say. I tell them if I have to go to the store, go downstairs and do laundry, vacuum, clean, etc . . .I always ask how their day was and if they played nicely together . . . I am just so glad I can come to YT and feel I'm not ready to go to the crazy hospital . . .:p |

haha...I do that too, only I usually say..."let's do the laundry now, or let's go fix dinner".... I also let Daisy 'inspect' nearly everything new that comes into the house. She is always there saying "mommy, let me smell it to see if it is OK" so I usually let her have a sniff and ask her if it is OK. She is sooooo nosy. LOL...guess you can count me in as a crazy too. |

yay! glad to hear others talk like this to their babies. when I come home from work, and Gunnar has settled down a little bit, I scoop him up and ask him how his day was and was he good, what did he do, did he eat all of his food and drink his water etc. he listens intently. then it's do you want to play? wheres monkey, wheres your ball etc. Or, Daddy's home and he runs to the window. I tell him what I'm doing too! He understands a lot. :aimeeyork Donna |

Hahaa, Love it! I probably talk to my furbabies more than I talk to people.:p |
I had to laugh out loud at a lot of your answers. I know my co-workers think I'm nuts, but it was worth it to know there are others out there like me. Thank you for sharing! :D |
OH yeah...I talk to my kidz all the time. I don't want to leave them in the dark about what's going on in their world...that would be just rude! |
I only have one Yorkie but her and the Border Collie are always watching me. I just taught them how to make raised panel Oak doors, and the big project this month was making the fireplace mantel. I'd explain everything to them and I know they aren't listening when their eyes close... :snore: |
I talk to Daisy like that all the time, too. You do that with skin babies, so why not your furpup? That's how they learn new words. You want your Yorkie to be smart, don't ya?? |
Oh yeah! I talk to Bailey all the time like that, lol! When I'm over to my BF's I will be yammering away to Bailey or his two dogs, My bf will be in another room and think I'm talking to him:p.. |
well, since I don't have any skin kids and hubby works all the time, I tend to talk to my babies too. :) Even if they don't understand me, it's nice that at least they give me the head tilt and I just bust out laughing. |
I talk to my girls all the time. They always know when I ask them if they want to go outside or if they want a treat or go for a ride so, I figure they pretty much know what else I am saying. They are always with me. I understand them and they understand me. |
Ok..so we are all wackadoos. :) I say to Max, "Momma loves her boy, or let's go upstairs, Momma's cold, or Momma has to go to work, I love you...just about everything! I also ask him to bring me the remote but he won't do it.. |

So... I'm normal then!! *lol* I talk to Sandy all the time. 'Mommy's going to work now. Be a good boy... See you later today!' I tell him, 'Mommy loves you' every night before I go to bed. Haha... My man always asks me, 'What are you talking about? You talk so much!' :D |
Bonbon, yes you are crazy, but it beats being insane. At least that is what I tell myself. :D Noisika, don't take this too far....no one said we are all normal. :D OK...my take: Talking to my yorkies beats talking to a human who just might talk back. I say you cannot beat this unconditional love. I can say anything and they just adore me .. and agree with me, too. :D |
Not only do we talk to our 2 but they talk to us! Mia is far more verbal than Max but he does have a few little sounds that he makes. Mia will come in tell us that she thinks there's cat outside - that means she wants us to lift her up and let her look down the fence line to see if the cat is hiding in the trees. She really has quite a few sounds that she makes but they're mostly letting us know about the cats. Of course, this is her primary concern it the world. :p They also tell us when they want a drink of water. We keep a big mug of ice water on our nightstands that they like to drink out of. They are definately our "grandchildren". :D |
They also tell us when they want a drink of water. We keep a big mug of ice water on our nightstands that they like to drink out of. You too, Connie? That big glass of water taste so much better than the water in their water jug (and ice is very important)! |

Speaking of ice, a couple of mine stand by my refrigerator when I get ice and wait for pieces to drop! Of course, I make sure they get their special little healthy treats! :) |
LOL! I know. We have a nice set of ceramic bowls in the bedroom but Mia will insist on having it out of the mug. Max, bless his heart, will use the bowl if he thinks we're sleeping. |
Max likes the ice but Mia just picks it up and throws it! :) |
