I am not bashing tinies or anything but damn! Pita is tiny as far as I'm concerned and these people act like she's giant!!

It's just aggravating that not only are these people uninformed about their own dogs but they act like they have something that's more valuable than Pita.

just venting i guess.... grrr....

It's amazing to come across people who just don't know when to keep their own mouths shut, and when they can't they smart off rude comments as you mentioned above.

Luckily we have all been blessed with Yorkies of different shapes and sizes, I am thankful for that sooo much!

Of course hidden deep inside we all know our own Yorkie's the best, LOL but we surey don't tell other's that! (KIDDING!!) :D

People comment about mine all the time, Chloe is 6 lbs and Lacey is 3 but Lacey is very delicate looking, with little short legs, people just gravitate to her because she has this cute little face. Then, they assume Chloe is a male and call her he all the time. She's just as cute, only not as small and in some ways, like behavior, she's a much better dog. Tinies are great for people who cannot handle a bigger dog but really, even bigger yorkies are small.

Wow, I was thinking the same thing.

I remember taking Gracie to the vet once and a lady made a comment, "WOW, IS THAT A YORKIE? SHE IS SO BIG!!!!" Gracie weighed 4 1/2 lbs.

People that don't know the breed are just ignorant to it. Haven't got a clue...

FireFish 10-08-2005 04:34 PM

For what it is worth...which is not much all breeds have the problem with people being ignorant.... All female Scotties that I have had are "he"s and our Aussie is a Collie.

Oh well.....

Stupid people.

I can't even start on this......people are ignorant and want to stay that way, being ignorant is easier. :( I get this teacup thing all the time with Matise.
The breeder told me he was supposed to be 4-5 lbs. and that's what I wanted but he is only 3.3-3.5 lbs. and I am always stressed because he is so small. :( But of course I wouldn't trade him for the world and love him to pieces. ;)
Another example My cocker was a full blooded, AKC registered, show quality tri color cocker spaniel. Later in her life the tan had sivered out so she looked more like a black and white. AND I got "that's the funniest lookin Dalmation I've ever seen" My reply used to be "you're the funniest lookin person I've ever seen" I mean I tried not to let it bother me but those things used to really upset me. Now when ignorance just goes a spewing I just walk away or completely ignore them all together, I am over it(stupid people).
Here are a couple of pics of Alex(my cocker) in case you wanted to see what she looked like. :)

Oh my gosh Can the vet not fix a cleft pallette? Doesn't the food come out her nose? That is sooo sad, and I can see why you would want to keep her and make sure she is well taken care of. Poor thing!
Kara! your dog is beautiful! Probably nicer looking than the ones with the rt. color! I think he is georgeous!

I weigh my dogs when they are a year old and if they get fatter that's fine with me.. I breed for health and conformations with tons of hair and wonderful faces.. My dogs are black SILK coats but my dogs weigh in at 2.5 to 8.5#. This is not a large dogs..I know a lady right now that bought a so called tea cup for over 2000.000 and after 6 months has almost put that same amount into it in vet bills..!! I hear this over and over.. NO thank you.. You get tinny dogs in almost every litter.. There are some excellent breeders that have bred their dog down to the tinny's but they are still having many c-sections as if you don't watch diet when pregnant the pups can become too large for delievery..

We just had 3 litters born the most I've had in 5 yrs.. I was on pins and needles.. Thank God they all were born fine and healthy... WHEW.. ! It's wonderful when it all goes well but when it dosen't you blame youself over and over... I've had people email me wanting to buy a 2# male for breeding to a 2# female.. Well, I'm not very nice when it comes to stuff like that.. Person even told me that her vet said the dog was big enough to have pups??? I asked who was going to benifit at her dogs distress of not being able to deliever her pups and who would make the money on such a breeding??? I told her if you want to breed buy something breeding size breed standard and then they can still have problems.. as it's a genetic thing as well as diet as to natural birth and c-section.. I told her the vet she took her dog to should be ashamed of himself.. I told her she didn't think much of her do to put her though that.. and her vet would be the only one to make money on that type of a breeding.. May loose the dog and all her pups.. especially if she dosen't even know what to look for with problems..

Well, I spouted enough..

Rosie

Well Rosie, I enjoyed reading what you said you "spouted" and appreciate everything you said. You sound like a very nice breeder with a great heart and mind for all you do. I commend you!

Ok -- I have a confession.... I have actually used to the term "teacup" when describing my chihuahua (I'm bending over now for the lashings... LOL) I guess it just slipped out -- and I've only done it ONCE. A group of baseball moms were talking about their dogs, and of course I chimed in and before I knew it, the phrase, "and then we have a teacup chihuahua" came out. I stopped myself dead in my tracks, and said, "Well, "teacup" is not a term most dog people like to hear, so I guess I should say Callie is just super super super little...." I felt so bad - so here I am admitting it. Can I get some forgiveness around here so I can sleep tonight?? hahaha
Anyway... here's a picture of her -- she's 13 weeks and weighs 10 ounces. The vet has checked her and says she is healthy, other than an extremely large open fontanel.

Don't want to start an argument just my opinion

The only thing that gets me is that when I got my little guy, I didn't know of course how big he would be, but everything I ever read, always said to be careful because the tiny ones get sick all the time and that you have to treat them so fragile. My Miko is not quite 4lbs and he is as spunky and healthy as a 9lb or 10lb yorkie would be. I just hate when people tend to over exaggerate and say that you have to be extra careful with a little one.
Sorry that's just my opinion, I think the only thing you have to be careful with a little one, is not to step on them!! LOL
