| Spay coming soon, two weeks for Sadie Just wanted to let you guys know, we're going in for the big spay on 1/14. I'm worried, but i know it's the right thing to do. I'm waiting until her top teeth come in a little bit more just so that they can pull teeth if they need pulled during her spay and i don't have to have her put under more than once. Any advice or suggestions and thoughts??? Should I purchase a softee collar to have ready for her when she comes home? Thanks |

| I know what you're going through. I had the same reservations when I took Sydney in for her spaying. Just have faith in the vet and his/her staff. What I did with Syd was hand her over inside her tote bag (dog carrier). In the bottom I placed my fleece jammie top. The vet nurse said this was common. When I picked Syd up late that afternoon, they had her in her tote bag. When I brought her home I unzipped the side of the bag and let her stay in there as long as she wanted to sleep. She finally came out about a half-hour later. She was out of it for the rest of the night. I had to be careful how I picked her up. I had to scoop her instead of just picking her up or else she yelped. I also had to watch her because she wasn't thinking about where her wee wee pads were. I had to take her to them often. I did cut the arm out of an old shirt and put that around her belly (kind of like a tube top). The vet nurse said that the cones are uncomfortable and most dogs don't like them. Please write any time. I am here for you as I'm sure many others are, too. Attached is a picture of Sydney after her surgery with her make-shift wrap around her sutures to protect them. Sincerely, Sonya |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Aww it is always so scary for us when they go in. Just make sure they do the pre surgery blood work. I use the onsies after spaying and I just ordered a soft e collar from Mom to Hot Rod which is really nice. I will say a prayer for a safe spay.

| Bailey just had her spay today and I was very worried. But now she's back safe and sound. I'm sure your baby will do just fine! The ideas of a soft collar sound good. Bailey's got a plastic one on and I can tell it's hard for her to get comfy, but it's all she has so I'm afraid to take it off until about mid-day tomorrow.

| The hard cone is very uncomfortable for a Yorkie. They seem to run into everything with the end of the cone. Steps are very hard to climb as the cone hits the next step. We purchased a soft muzzle, which we only used when we couldn't have supervision of her. The muzzle was much better than the hard cone. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I sure know how you feel...it seems no matter what, or how much you prepare...it's just scary. You just wait for that call from the vet saying "all is well, surgery went perfect!" . And I know that's what you will hear . Oh! Here's something to remember - I would really insist on pain control. I never get why some vets won't do pain control - but I just don't believe in uncontrolled pain, for animals or humans. To help Sadie stay more "still", stock up on her favorite chews too...I'm sure she won't mind .

| thanks so much for all the advice. she's such a sweet baby i don't want to risk anything with cancers and i want to do this the right way. i actually moved her spay up to next Friday because her teeth are coming in (canines) and i don't want her to go into heat before this happens and i'm worried that she might so i just moved it up to be on the safe side. she was 6 mo. old on Dec. 20 so she's ready anyways. wish mommy luck in keeping her cool at work all day next Friday. Thanks again, btw, just ordered my softee from MomtoHotRod |
