Are 2 better than one? I have one yorkie. He just turned 4 months. I was thinking of getting another little one just like my Marley, so they can both play with each other. Would this be a good idea? Should I just wait until Marley is older? |
YES!!! Two, three, four, is def better than one! :p I think he is at a great age for a brother or sister. They can grow up together and he will have someone to play and cuddle with. :D |
I have 3 and they love having each other to play and snuggle with. I say go for it. |
3 Attachment(s) I only wanted 1 yorkie. My husband brought home Cookie and in less than a year I wanted another one. We got a female yorkie named Princess but after 10 months of working with her it was obvious that her issues needed to be for a house with no pets and lots of training. After that my husband said NO GIRLS. Well yes of course I wanted a girl! We got a Maltese. A week ago I got my dream Yorkie girl, full grown 3 yrs old and she is a doll and the sweetest calmest little girl Ive ever seen. So now there are 4 small dogs with us not including our missing yorkie Cookie. I say go for it. They are very addicting Gen |
I've been thinking about getting another, too. My hubby says "no way". As much as he is crazy about Meg, he thinks having a second dog will be too much for us to handle right now. We are planning a move to America in the next year, and then trying to have a baby soon after that. Would it just be to much to do all of that and have two? I'd love to get another dog now though. We'd have a solid 9-10 months of training and consistency before we move to America. Of course, I work full time here, and that's not ideal for a new puppy. And what I really want to know is how hard might it be to go from having 1-2 fur-babies then adding a skin-baby to the mix? So... I'm right there with you - wondering if I should get a second! I hope people write back and help us decide! :D |
I am right there with you guys...I really want to get another Yorkie. Winston turns one in a couple days and I want him to have a baby sister so so bad. I see all the precious little faces on this site and it makes me want one even more. |
I say go for it! I have 6 so I understand the concept!:D |
Two is better than one, if it works for you and you can afford to care for another and have the time and love to devote to another, why not go for it??!!! If you get them both young, you have to consider that you will be training two at once, housetraining two at once. But then again, twice the love, twice the fun and twice the love!!! (did I already say that?? :D) |
I really really want another one soo badly, I expecially want a buddy for Laci to play with. I think two would be alot of fun. |
I will add a 2nd one day. Currently, in my life right now, I've decided I'm content with my life with just Jackson right now but I know Jackson would love a buddy and I'm thinking within the next year to year in a half, I will add a 2nd. |
Pann just turned four months and we just got him a sister, a puggle and she's 9 weeks old. Pann is already so much happier, we need to get him neutered asap  lol, but he's sooo much happier he loves her. they are double trouble but definitely worth it. :D and training is easier so far bc they wanna compete with each other to get the most praise and treats so its great! i could go on and on :p |
Are there any cons? Everybody says how great it is, but besides financially should people be aware of anything else that could go wrong when adding a second one? |
I just added my 2nd Yorkie to the family, it is definitely better. The only "con" that I can think of is that your first is only 4 months old, so you will be dealing with potty training and all of that X 2. |
I would definately wait until the first one is solid on housebreaking. It will make it soooo much easier to train the new one cause they will want to go in the same places. And hopefully the first yorkie can guide the second yorkie on house rules and where to potty. |

I thought having one, Zander, was ok, then I brought home Jazzie, he came alive and played and played. I thought 2 was great, then I brought home Lexie :D. I love having 3. I would love a Biewer in the future, we'll see. ;) |
I think 2 play with each other and keep each other company. So I would vote yes for a second one; of course, I would suggest a Biewer for your 2nd (or 3rd or 4th--you get the idea.) |

Also, Meg is house-trained on pee pads. Do dogs mind sharing pee pads? |
I had one Yorkie pup age 4 months, and added a new puppy about a month after he came home. All the same reasons you mention. The new one was a 5 month old Yorkie Poo, who we'd also loved when we visited the shelter. We figured since they had lived together before, it would be harmony and bliss from the get-go. Well, it wasn't all harmony and bliss, hahah...I even thought I'd made a terrible mistake. But a few weeks later, (now they are age 6 m and age 7 m) it is basically really cute, pleasant chaos here. I love having two, it is really not much more work than one. We still have some rough spots, but the joy and fun of having two far outweighs any negative. You've got my vote. |

Our second was a little difficult. Of course, Cooper came with her little "bag of issues". After about four months, we are slowly becoming the family I hoped we would be. |

our 2nd furbutt is a rescue puggle. Shes a bit agressive and has a few other issues but her and Pann seem to be a great mix. We have to spend more time fixing what someone else did, like the aggression with food and towards space and I think she might have been hit =( but were working on her issues and having Pann first really helps. They compete with each other and want to do everything right to make us happy so they complement each other very nicely. butt it does help that she is only 3 months old. (pann is 4 months) |
1 Attachment(s) Proof that 2 is better than 1. I just snapped this pic now. They are totally hugging each other while they nap. :luv: |
