Are your yorkies cuddlers? Hi guys! I currently own a Cairn Terrier and am wanting to add an addition to our family :) I have really been eyeing yorkies for a couple of years and wanted some more information on them so I joined this forum. For my next puppy I am really looking for a snuggle buddy. All though my cairn likes to be with me he would rather sit on the far end of the couch. Are your yorkies cuddlers and very affectionate? Have you noticed a difference in boys vs. girls? And one more question, would I be able to tell if the puppy is going to be a lover when he/she's a puppy or are all puppys pretty affectionate and they kinda grow out of it or not? Thank you so much for your time! I look forward to some answers |
Lucy is a real snuggle bug - she loves her cuddles and simpy can't get enough kisses. |
both of mine are cuddly but one is really a lap yorkie and she has been since I brought her home. I think you can tell when they are pups |
Sophie is a real snuggler most of the time. She has her independent moments too, though. If we are on the couch or in bed she has to be right on our lap or snuggled up close. She is a proficient kisser, too. There is nothing like ... Yorkie Love! :2hearts2: |
Lilah is a real snuggler, even more so now after she's been spayed. Don't know if that's a coincidence or not but she always has to be on top of me. |
Hot Rod would be in my arms 24/7 if he could, lol. I have been holding while I've been doing other things and he's put up with it all because he just wants to be held. :) Maggie is starting to come around to be a snuggler. |
Missy's a cuddler on her terms. :) When she wants to cuddle she'll look for Rick or I. But if I want to cuddle, if she's not in the mood, she won't put up with it. She loves to give kisses all the time though. :animal36 And she may not want to cuddle, but she must be close by either one of us at ALL times. LOL. Our cute little shadow... |
Coral is a snuggle bug. When i went to pick up her sister for my parents at the breeder, they told me that she was independent and not too snuggly, but she did not leave my lap the whole time i was there. So, i brought her home for me and her sister home for my parents. She loves to be under the covers at night right next to me and loves to be held. She will also lay by herself and snuggle into a blanket if that is what she is in the mood for or if my lap is filled with another dog! |
Zeus is just starting to be a cuddler again. He was acting like a cat for awhile but now seems to want to be held more often. He can't get any closer at night if he tried. Might be the weather. Not sure and not complaining!:D |
Bilbo is a cuddler. If we are home with him, he's either wanting to play or cuddle. He is also always right under my feet. I don't know if he has separation anxiety or if he's just nosy. |
We had cairns when I lived at home and remember they were very cuddly but my yorkie is definately more cuddly. |

Bailey is just like Missy. It is on her terms. But I love her anyways :) |
Josh loves to cuddle. When he cannot lie in my lap, he is usually lying by my feet. :) |
Cuddler 100% Bella would rather be held or snuggle around my neck that being alone. In fact she'll let me carry her around as I do chores in the house rather than follow me. It's cute, and yes, I know I'm spoiling her. But she doesn't expect it all the time and just soaks it in when she can. She's 14 months old now and cuddles alot! I think most Yorkies are cuddlers from what I read on the YT. Good luck! |
All of mine are cuddlers. Some more than others. Sebastian is a momma's boy! He will not leave my side for a second. But then again he goes everywhere with me. He was shipped to me so I didn't know his personality till he got here. Just that he was pre-spoiled! That he was! When I picked out my girls; Duchess was a squirm worm couldn't cuddle with her at all! All she wanted to do was play. She came and cuddled when she wanted and then went and layed at the other end of the sofa. Contessa was the cuddle bug. You could hold her for hours and she would just lay there. When I'm holding one of my other Yorkies she barks at me to pick her up so she can sleep in my lap. She sleeps in my lap when I'm eating, at the computer, and on the sofa! Autumn Ariel sleeps on my lap too. She also likes to be right up against my side in bed too or in the crick of my neck. So yes Yorkies are very loving! They follow you everywhere no place is personal anymore. Try going potty alone or taking a bath without hearing them scratch at the door or their little noses under the door. I leave the doors ajar so they can come in whenever they want! I'm glad I have them I'm never sad as they are always so cheery! P.S. I think my boy is more attached at the hip than any other! He cries when I step out the car to check my mail! He smiles at me (shows his teeth) when I goo goo talk to him. He follows my every move! I'm more attached to him than any other of my furbabies I've ever owned! He is my heart!!!! |
Wow! I'm so shocked over all the cuddlers! Barley only cuddles in bed and Bijou wants to play, play, play. Neither want to sit on laps and cuddle. They'll lay beside me on the couch once they are played out but that's it. :( I'm so jealous...LOL But they do have to be every where I am. |
Jasmine is a real cuddle bug. She is with me ALL the time and if ever I sit down she is immediately on my lap. She is lying right beside me right now. She sleeps beside me every night. She is my widdle baby girl and believe me she knows it. |
My Luna is a velcro dog, always wanting to be snuggled, but my Izzy is a bit of a loner. It's luck of the draw, really, but maybe if you get the puppy early (12 weeks or more) you can hopefully "make" them a snuggler:) |
Sushi is not a cuddler...at 8.5 months all he wants to do is run, play, hide his bones and toys, hide his bones again, and again, and again :)...lol always looking for the perfect spot. He does follow me everywhere but doesn't like too many hugs & kisses |

When we got Mika, if any dog should have ended up a cuddler, it should have been her. She had the undivided adoration of two women whose whole life revolved around her. To my daughter's dismay....she was not a cuddler....now don't get me wrong, she has her moments, but she's an independent lass. Now Maya, on the other hand it like a ball of clay, mold me make me Mommy. She has gotten a little independent recently, but she is still the bigger snuggle bunny. I've seen loads of posts on yorkie talk from some people who even question if their yorkie even likes them. So it's a chance you take. It's not a breed that universally snuggles, but you have a good chance of getting one like that. |
Also Mika HATES to be picked up, she panics, like we are going to drop her or something, and then eventually does the "let me down" sturggle that shows she has had enough of being off the ground. She came from a pet store, so she still might be traumatized by the puppy mill she probably came from. Maya on the other hand came from a good breeder, and is totally different. She's not afraid of anything. |

Lord yes, both of mine are cuddlers. Sometimes I think they are permantly attached to my lap, LOL. I even went so far as to buy a baby shoulder sling that Diva sits in to give my arms a break. Davinci is following in his mommy's footsteps and wants to be a cuddle bug 24/7. My mom has a snorkie that is her permanent shadow also. If she's sitting down her lap is covered with 10 lbs of fuzzy doggy love. LOL |
My baby boy Ares can be a cuddler only when he gotten enough play time and exercise in. lol He's three months old and a bundle of energy! I have to say when he's ready for cuddles he is sooo sweet!:aimeeyork |
My Piper is a real cuddler. Personally I find the boys to be more cuddly, although reading through the posts see that a lot of the girls are cuddlers too. Let us know how you make out, and if you need help in selecting one let us know everything you can about the pup and breeder, and we will surely help you the best we can. Also, our breeders are very good, and you might want to check with them. |
We had a rescue Cairn for many years. She was a one person dog and would lay next to my side when I was working. Very loyal and affectionate. Now I have Belle and she is a no-holds-barred cuddler. None of this laying next to you lol. She has to be in my lap. If I'm sitting in my lazyboy watching football she is either in my lap or on my shoulder as close to my neck as she can get. The wife is jealous - lol. |
Winston is definitely a cuddle bug. He will lay on my lap for hours if I let him. He has moments where he prefers to be on the other end of the counch but 9 times out of 10 he will always end up on my lap. I work from home so he has me there all the time. Even when I can't be there for him to cuddle with he brings every toy he owns and leaves it at my feet. It's almost like he is saying "I'm here to play so whenever you're ready choose a toy and throw it for me". He is my first Yorkie and by far one of the most amazing things I've ever brought into my life - he truly brings a smile to face every day :) |
Lilee is the best of both worlds - a playful, energetic and fun loving pup, but a cuddle baby too. She loves to lay in my lap and sleep on top of me  |
My Missy is not very snuggly. She likes to play hard to get LOL! Dora on the other hand, is super-duper snuggly. |
