☺Farrah☺ Donating Member | ![]() Are puppies "tested/screened" for shunts prior to going to their forever homes? What tests/screenings should I expect from the breeder? Can you tell I am new to this breed?? LOL Thanks. |

| ![]() I’m sure all breeders do things different. I really don’t think the test is accurate on really young pups and the test can be fatal. Your talking about 2 blood draws, that is quite a bit of blood taken. One of our breeders shared her experience from doing this at a young age. It caused the death of one pup and she almost lost the another pup tested . This is not something that I would do to a young pup. Better to buy from a breeder who has tested the adult breeders and carries a genetic guarantee for LS. IMO….I wouldn’t run a BAT test on a pup younger then 9-12 months . Before my pups go to a new home my Vet does a complete check up on the pups for Knees, Herina's, Teeth, Skin, Ears, Worm test... etc. |

☺Farrah☺ Donating Member | ![]() Thank you for the info. I've been spending hours here learning about these beautiful dogs. Am visiting with the breeder in a few weeks when the puppies are about 8 weeks old. I can't wait!!! ![]() |

| ![]() I would ask to see vet records if the parents had been LS tested before being bred. all puppies are sweet but some can have shunts that does not show symtoms at a early age.
